The Catholic Antidote to Woke: Diversity Inclusion and Equality

Image
We start this episode by laying out some ideas we have had to develop Catholic Unscripted as we move forward. Given we are all agreed that the current culture war requires a profoundly Catholic response, we are branding ourselves as CR² - Gavin explains why. That leads us into a discussion of D.I.E. - Diversity - Inclusion - Equality and the Catholic response. We then talk about being Married to a non-Catholic and each of us gives our own experiences of relationships with non-Catholics and how to minister and evangelise in these, often quite tense situations.

"Gay Marriage" Now Legal in UK

Image
So as of the stroke of midnight, so-called "gay marriage" became legal in the UK and the first same-sex couples were "wed". It is all over the news here, and the rainbow flag which is a symbol of LGBT pride is flying over whitehall no less! The idea I think is that the very perception of gay relationships will change with the advent of "gay marriage", as one of those taking part articulated on the news. For society, I think this will have major repercussions, but not sudden ones. It is part of a decline in moral standards which purports to be about love and equality but in truth betrays any true academic notion of either. Now I do understand that there are many homosexual couples who think that this is about equality and love. I don't think anyone should have to feel marginalised in society, or threatened, or hated, it makes me sad to think they might feel that way. But I cannot help but feel "gay marriage" is forcing a confrontat...

Faith, Society and Justice.

Happy New Year to you all! A great blogging start to the year I have to say. Credit where credit is due; @PartTimePilgrim drew my attention to these great posts yesterday morning. So good, I felt I had to share some sort of conspectus with my own readers. First off, you must read this post by CCFather. It is concise, yet contains all the main historical, social and philosophical developmental points of the argument. CCFather correctly identifies that what is missing in broader society is any real concept of what marriage really is. We must address this fundamental point before we can begin to be heard on issues like same sex marriage. It is extremely valuable that he has placed the currently position squarely in its correct temporal context, i.e. that it is not first step 'on a path that we shouldn't take, but rather because..[it constitutes] a further step on a path we have already gone too far along'. @PartTimePilgrim suggests the penultimate paragraph of Be...

Cardinal O'Brien and Liberal Fascism

Image
Cardinal O'Brien with the boys and I. Look how homosexual lobbyists  Stonewall demonstrate their tolerance . Harold Wilson once made a speech against extremists 'including extreme so-called moderates' - the context was different but the argument is as valid now as it was then. I've met Cardinal O'Brien, he ordained my friend Fr. Dominic O'Toole at St. Mary's in Clapham. He is personable, brilliant, generous with his time and spirit, not at all haughty or self important, very accessible and CATHOLIC. Cardinal O'Brien is OK too (—Sorry, couldn't resist!). Apparently he has made an interesting journey in his own life from a rather relaxed faith to one that focuses more on the essential truths of Catholic teaching. Today that is evident in the fact that he is not afraid to stand up and be counted. Priests and people love him. When the good Cardinal 'won' this ridiculous award, Ruth Davidson MSP (the Conservative leader in Scotland) ...
