Cardinal Gerhard Müller, former Prefect for the CDF, removed by Francis speaks to John Henry Westen about some of the madness going on in the Church at the moment. He says no one understands what is going on with Pope Francis and the August consistory and expresses concern about the appointment of Bishop McElroy to the Cardinalate . He says it makes no sense that this suffragan bishop has been appointed over his superior: Gomez, who is a good, faithful bishop. The Cardinal states that this strange move seems to stem directly from a misunderstanding of the Church in that it is an attempt to politicise the Church, seeking to change the Church to fit certain political agendas and to support political agendas. Here he is clearly stating that McElroy and the Pope are blatantly attempting to support Biden and are putting this political approach above a theological and moral approach to the issues of life and moral integrity. An important post from Anthony Stine - he asks the question surely everyone is wondering since the last batch of Cardinals was announced: "Francis has elevated a number of highly questionable prelates to senior positions in the roman curia recently and elevated more questionable junior members of the episcopate to their first positions as the local ordinary of their own dioceses and many of them have something in common that a lot of people aren’t really talking about. Statistically too many of these men have direct ties to Ted McCarrick for it to be coincidental. It is true that McElroy was informed about allegations against McCarrick in 2016, in a letter from psychotherapist Richard Sipe. The letter mentioned that Sipe had “interviewed twelve seminarians and priests who attest to propositions, harassment, or sex with McCarrick,” and asked McElroy to address it. Pope Francis named today to the College of Cardinals a pro-gay ultra-progressive who turned a blind eye to sex abuse. Namely, the bishop of San Diego, Robert McElroy. McElroy has distinguished himself by supporting causes close to Pope Francis’s heart and by having a consistent opposition to the teaching of the Catholic Church in a number of areas. He objects to Church teaching on abortion, divorce and “remarriage,” homosexuality, and the priesthood, and was described by America’s Vatican correspondent as being, “recognized in Rome as a top expert on the social doctrine of the church.” McElroy's appointment must be a clear endorsement of the man and his agenda. But it is also a blatant snub to Archbishop Cordileone . This appointment is unthinkable and unworkable in any other papacy as San Diego is suffragan of Los Angeles. But Pope Francis has done worse.
