For ἐκέδασσε Naber and Nauck conj. “ἐκέασσε”, splits (16.347); but this would be more in place of the bursting of a reservoir; here the picture is rather that of the gradual carrying away of the banks. But compare the imitation in Virg. Aen. ii. 496 “aggeribus ruptis cum spumeus amnis” , etc.
