[887] ζώς for “ζωιός” is a highly suspicious form recurring only in the acc. “ζών” 16.445; cf. the equally faulty “σῶς” for “σόος” (“σάος”) 22.332. “ἢ ζωὸς ἀμ”. Brandreth, “ζωιός κ̓” van L. ἀμενηνός: only here in Il.; it occurs several times in Od. in the phrase “νεκύων ἀμενηνὰ κάρηνα”, and once (Od. 19.562) of dreams. It appears to be conn. with “μένος”, but the formation is not clear. ἔα: see on 4.321.
