[324] τετράκυκλος (also Od. 9.242), one of the few cases in H. of a vowel left short before “τρ”, cf. “φαρέτρης” 8.323, “Ὀτρυντεύς” 20.383-84, and note on 23.84. “Ἀμφιτρύων” is excusable by metrical necessity. “ἀλλότριος” is the only word where the shortening is systematic — twice in Il., fifteen times in We Od. should have looked for “τεσσεράκυκλος” which should perhaps be read in Od. 9.242.
