[273] ὡς, exclamative, ‘to think that!’ (Monro), as with “ὄφελον”. So also Od. 16.364 “ὡς τόνδ᾽ ἄνδρα θεοὶ κακότητος ἔλυσαν”. This seems to be the only case where it is used in a negative sentence (with the possible exception of Od. 2.233). The predicate also generally contains an adjective or adverb with which “ὡς” might be taken. See note on 14.294.
