[716] ἐυστρόφωι, see notes on 599 and 600. There is no doubt that the reference here is to slings, as Pausanias took it (see last note). Povelsen would explain well-woven doublets of wool: but apart from the question whether “ἐύστροφος” can bear this sense, we see from the epithet “λινοθώρηξ” (2.529) that such a jacket would be not of wool but of linen.
