[611] ἔρειο: apparently for “ἐρέ-εο”, from the longer stem “ἐρε-” found in “ἐρέοντο” 8.445, etc. It should then be “ἐρεῖο” (Curtius Vb. ii. 47). Fick would prefer “ἔρευε” (which occurs in Hesych., and is explained “ἐρεύνα”), Schulze “ἔρηον” (cf. on 1.62), Brandreth “ἔρεσθαι”. The simplest alternative is “ἔροιο” of Ammonios (and one MS.); cf. “εἴποις” in 791 (H. G. § 299 b).
