[422] κῦμα is used collectively, as is shewn by “ἐπασσύτερον”. Cf. “κῦμα .. τά τ᾽ ἐρεύγεται” Od. 5.438. The point of comparison is given by “ἐπασσύτερον”, see 427. Here the der. from “ἐπ-αν-σεύω”, hastening up in succession (see on 1.383), is particularly suitable.
