[673] 673 = 11.596, 18.1. We now leave the Aristeia of Idomeneus, and enter on a transitional passage leading to the “Διὸς ἀπάτη” (see Introduction). The many weaknesses and other signs of late composition which mark it will be noticed in their places. Hector, it appears, is in the centre of the battle. The lines are apparently an imitation of 11.497 ff., but with the position reversed; there Hector on the left knows nothing of the Trojan defeat in the centre.
