The curious variant “ἠερέθ”(“ο”)“ντο” (stayed aloft?) has the support also of a schol. “ἠ”[“γ”]“ερέθοντο, ἀπαιωροῦντο, ἐκρέμαντο”, and is apparently alluded to in Hesych. and Et. Mag. But the other occurrences of the verb (2.448, 3.108, 21.12) do not encourage us to substitute it for the text.
