[526] ἔλπομαι εὐχόμενος: so Zen.; Ar. “εὔχομαι ἐλπόμενος”, which violates the digamma of “ϝέλπομαι”. This, however, is not of much importance in a doubtful passage; and, as Hoffmann proposed, we might read “εὔχομ᾽ ἐϝελπόμενος”. Still it is better to adhere to that tradition which on the face of it is the more archaic.
