The
subtitle of this holiday is “No one's perfect, but everyone can be awesome!”
The
International Day of Awesomeness is today because March 10 is Chuck
Norris's birthday. And although the real guy Chuck Norris—the
actor, martial artist, and person—is not at all awesome, in my
opinion, since he has said some pretty bigoted things (like that the
reelection of Barack Obama would lead to 1,000 years of
darkness!)—there is that meme about Chuck Norris being a sort of
superhuman, super strong, super fast-kicking guy.

This funny hyperbole (or exaggeration) about Chuck Norris reminds me of the “most interesting man in the world” ads. You know, the guy who can speak Russian...in French. The guy who was once bitten by a rattlesnake...After five days of excruciating pain, the snake finally died. The guy who, in museums, is allowed to touch the art. The guy who can kill two stones with one bird.
The
guy who once made a weeping willow laugh.
Hyperbole!

Exaggeration
can be really funny!
- Have fun with hyperbole. Here is poem called “Hyperbole Cafe.” You might want to make your own exaggerating poem...maybe about how awesome your house is, or about an amazing circus.
- Do a Mad Lib, and notice how much funnier the story comes out when it becomes ridiculously exaggerated.
