Adepticon, Ho!

Well, due to some miscommunication, this entry didn't get put out last Thursday as I was hoping.  So please read on, enjoy and pretend like Adepticon was just starting . . .

Well, it's been a brutal 3 months.

After the release of the Dark Angels Codex in January, my Adepticon team came up with the completely insane idea that we would dive in head first and take the Sons of the Lion to Chicago.

1000 points in 3 months isn't a big deal, right?  Wrong!  After you throw real life into the mix, 1000 points is a lot of freaking painting.  Especially when you are super critical of your own work and have the inclination to be completely anal when it comes to how your army looks.

My Painted Death Wing Are Up For Grabs!

Old School here to extend an opportunity to our readers to grab a hold of one of my painted armies - The Death Wing. I have too many projects on my bench these days and I am looking at two years coming up where my play time will be constrained more than it has in the last four years. With that said, I am going to offer up the Death Wing to somebody who wants to give it a good home. I had a lot of fun with this army and had a really good run with it over the last two and a half years, with some RTT victories and painted awards, so I look at it as time well invested on my end. Let's take a look at what is up for grabs.

The New Dark Angels Codex: Sharing the Raven Wing Experience!

Ravenwing standard bearer

Old School here with a post concerning Raven Wing bike armies. Now, usually I would just talk about what I thought worked and what doesn't and list ideas when it comes to exploring a new book, but then I found a couple of articles that not only detailed a list using the new Raven Wing, but 5 games worth of competitive battle reports summing its performance against a lot of different lists and how it was used to full effect on the table. With that said, rather than run my mouth, I want to share some field experience from the links below:

Showcase: Kitbashed Legio Custodes army

Hey everyone, KrautScientist here. Yet another showcase post from me. And while the project I would like to show you today may be a little rougher around the edges than my World Eaters, Traitor Guard or INQ28 retinue, it’s because this is a fun project that helps me to recharge my hobby batteries whenever I feel tired of my other armies.

So what we are looking at here is a small army of Pre-Heresy Custodes, the Empire’s personal bodyguard. I have been in love with the Legio Custodes ever since I read through German WD 112 (from April 2005): Not only did it feature rules for a Horus Heresy campaign, but it also marked the first time I ever saw Dave Taylor’s spectacular Legio Custodes army. There was something about those guys that really clicked with me. And even now, quite a few years later, Dave’s Custodes are still easily one of my favourite armies ever.

Land Speeder Vengeance/ Dark Shroud kit Review

I picked up a Land speeder Vengeance last night and finished putting it together this morning. I have to say its a pretty decent stream lined kit.

I come from the old school land speeders that fit together like a Picasso painting. Like the new remake of the basic speeder this guy really fits together will with just the nose leaving a little to be desired. The alter has great detail and and that detail carries through the whole model in very subtle ways.

New Dark Angels Codex Thoughts: Heavy Support

OST here with the last of my thoughts on the new DA codex before I get into potential list ideas (I have to find a way to run my Death Wing!). Today we are looking at Heavy Support, so since many of our choices are the same as other books, this will be rather short.

New Dark Angels Codex Thoughts: Fast Attack!

Old School here to continue my initial thoughts on the New Dark Angels codex. This time we will be looking at my favorite section of the book (possibly tied with the HQ slot), the Fast Attack section. Let's start with the original Raven Wing, where this crazy business all began!

New Dark Angels Codex Thoughts: Troops!

Old School here to continue my initial thoughts and ramblings on the New Dark Angels Codex. Since I have already covered HQs and Elites (and since I need to keep it brief, haha), I will talk about the troops today.

New Dark Angels Codex Thoughts Part 2: The Elites!

Old School here to continue the talk I started yesterday concerning the new Dark Angels codex. We talked about HQs and my initial thoughts and today we will continue with the Elites section. No discussion about Dark Angels Elites would be complete without talking about the Death Wing. Since the Terminator army was one of my first and certainly one of my favorites, we will start there:

New Dark Angels Codex Thoughts Part 1: HQ

OST here to talk about my initial thoughts on the new Dark Angels codex, since we didn't recieve any new, original tutorials this week. I would like to note how spoiled I have been with the last three codices released being relevent to me! I think it has been great, but it has also messed with my painting schedule and enforced some hobby ADD, which I will discuss in some other article. With that said, let's take a look at the DA codex from my titlted 40k point of view:

Leaked Dark Angels Pictures!

Well Merry Flippin' Everything, folks.  Christmas came early and the fat man in red dropped a January White Dwarf in someone's lap!

We saw them over at Pins of War, and it looks like they were found originally and posted by ZombieDK over at Dakka.  All credit and props to those who deserve it, now on to the eye candy!!

Old School's Entries for the Jump Master's Challenge!

Old School here with some pics of my entries for the Jump Master's Challenge painting contest at Dropzone Games' Grand Opening Celebration. While I am a bit nervous about having legends like Dave Taylor eye my work, I relish the chance to get some of my old favorites on display.

Pics from the 40k 6th edition Starter Set

Old school here with some pics that are likely from the new 40k starter set. If so, this is by far the best quality starter set yet.

Check out these photos courtesy of http://apocalypse40k.blogspot.com/2012/08/leaked-dark-vengence-images.html?m=1

Let's hear what you think. I personally am blown away.

Dark Angels in 6th Edition Part 4: Brothers in Arms

Old School here, if you plan to take the Dark Angels as your main detachment or as an ally, there are some great options now and we are Brothers in Arms with some that offer us a good boost. I will be covering Brothers in Arms in this post and will follow this up with a very brief post later concerning other allied options, but that post may not come for some time. As always with these early 6th edition posts, I am not an expert and I think there is much to be learned from discussion as this is a new game for all of us at this point. I don't want to waste your time building it up any more, so here we go ...

Dark Angels in 6th Edition Part 3: The Best of the Rest

Old School here with another post for Dark Angels in 6th Edition. So far we have covered Deathwing and Ravenwing. Today's post is about the rest of the book (at least from the perspective of units I have used on the table). Here is where we delve into territory where our old codex may be screwy in terms of options and points cost, so while I will lightly tough on allies below, it's not the focus. Allies will be part of the next post. Also throughout this post will be images from other hobbyists with great DA models, most are linked! Here we go ...

Dark Angels in 6th Edition Part 2: Ravenwing

Old School here with the second part of my series on Dark Angels in 6th Edition. Once again, I am adding my thoughts so far. I am not trying to come down from the mountain, rather I am also looking for good feedback to help everyone. So let's get straight into it:

Dark Angels in 6th Edition Part 1: Deathwing!

Old School here to talk about the Dark Angels based on my 6th Edition games with the codex and some thoughts I have looking at the FAQ and the new rules. I will cover the codex (and allies) in a series of posts. This will be the first post.

I will cover Deathwing Terminators and some general thoughts in this post and then Ravenwing units and some units I generally used/ plan to use now and what has effected them, our psykers and allies (both who we can take to help us and where we are likely to be used by others) in a series of posts each day until I am done. If you are a fan of the Unforgiven, it may have been a while since you have read anything modern to such an extent! I hope to convey knowledge that may be useful, while not coming off as an expert, because, it is early in 6th edition and we are all new right now!

The Unforgiven: Sons of Caliban

Old School here with this weeks KP and the end of black armoured Thunder Hammer/ Storm Shield termies for the Death Wing. From here on out, it's all speeders, dreads, bonus white armored command squad extras, some shooty termies ... and some rhino chassis in DA Green. Any way, here are eight termies as my offering.

Dark Footdar Development List vs Death Wing: Rematch Batrep!

Old School here with another battle report of Death Wing vs Wolfson's developmental Dark Footdar, inspired by the talk between Reecius of Frontline Gaming and Hyv3mynd over at Synaps3. In our last game, Wolfson was fresh from a long break away from the game and made a couple mistakes. He may have been beat, but he was not defeated and brought it on strong in our second game ...
