Guest Post: Jeff's Initial Space Marine Army List Thoughts
Initial Army List Thoughts
With all the choices out there, its hard to choose exactly what chapter you want. Thankfully the quasi build-a-chapter style of the new book can really help those power armor fan boys out there! Jeff chimes in today with his well written thoughts on picking your chapter.
Welcome back. In my previous post, I introduced myself and what I am planning. Today I would like to share with you my initial thoughts in regards to the various chapter tactics and potential army lists with each of them

Reanimating the Necron Airforce
I blew the dust off my necrons to take to Indiana and it was quite the learning experience. I've played them since they came out and they are my go to army. Because of how long I've played them I am able to wield them as if an extension of myself. Until this weekend I didn't notice but it seems as if the world around me is forcing me to evolve...or devolve.

Guest Post: Play it right: Grenades in 6th Edition
Play it right: Grenades in 6th edition.
TJ here with a guest post from a blog we really like called 40k War Zone, a member of the 40k blogrolls, an excellent source of news, rumors, tactics, discussion and entertaining rules posts like the one below that made both Chris Vinton and us think of the opening days of 6th! Enjoy this post by CrAzY 424 and when you are done, check out their blog!
I wanted to make a quick post about some common misconceptions about how Grenades work within 6th edition 40k. It came to my attention that a number of gamers have misinterpreted the rules and have, unfortunately, been playing some pretty crazy games. Most of this stuff will be pretty hilarious for the majority of 40k players. Here it is:

Indiana State Chapionship Round Up
by Chris Vinton
My theory of people that go to tournaments get better at tournaments (yes, its obvious but really think about it) was reinforced this weekend. Jesse Z and I packed up the diesel jetta and made the trek down to Lafayette Indiana for the first state championship. Despite the field being very small, there was some very stiff competition.

A Simple, Fair Method For Terrain Placement: Video and Interview!
One of the things people have a hard time adjusting to in 6th edition is terrain placement, specifically when set up by the players. Now, yes two decent human beings should be able to do it with no problems, but not everyone is always a decent human being (even me). With that being said, Ken Blakely of the Second Founding posted a video explaining a method he pioneered that was a precursor to the current Adepticon Primer method that will be used this year for the GT.
Now, before you turn your nose up or move on, give the video a view and see what they are talking about. Myself and Chuck play with this method in all of our pick-up games, regardless of whether or not the tourney we are practicing for uses terrain placement. Not only do we find this modification fair for both parties, we find it to be a fun way to help set the conditions for your army and that way neither player can blame the board set-up for their win/ loss without pointing the first finger at themselves. Enough of my thoughts though, below is the video, demonstrated by Greg Sparks (American ETC Captain) and Adepticon 2012 Warmaster, Brad Chester.

New Dark Angels Codex Thoughts: Fast Attack!
Old School here to continue my initial thoughts on the New Dark Angels codex. This time we will be looking at my favorite section of the book (possibly tied with the HQ slot), the Fast Attack section. Let's start with the original Raven Wing, where this crazy business all began!

New Dark Angels Codex Thoughts: Troops!
Old School here to continue my initial thoughts and ramblings on the New Dark Angels Codex. Since I have already covered HQs and Elites (and since I need to keep it brief, haha), I will talk about the troops today.

New Dark Angels Codex Thoughts Part 2: The Elites!
Old School here to continue the talk I started yesterday concerning the new Dark Angels codex. We talked about HQs and my initial thoughts and today we will continue with the Elites section. No discussion about Dark Angels Elites would be complete without talking about the Death Wing. Since the Terminator army was one of my first and certainly one of my favorites, we will start there:

New Dark Angels Codex Thoughts Part 1: HQ
OST here to talk about my initial thoughts on the new Dark Angels codex, since we didn't recieve any new, original tutorials this week. I would like to note how spoiled I have been with the last three codices released being relevent to me! I think it has been great, but it has also messed with my painting schedule and enforced some hobby ADD, which I will discuss in some other article. With that said, let's take a look at the DA codex from my titlted 40k point of view:

Allies in 6th: Your Take and My Experience Thus Far
Old School here to present a few questions to the community regarding allies; What do you think of Allies so far? Have they been worth it from a gameplay perspective? Have you seen any cool themes? Does it all just rub you the wrong way? Of course I will give you my opinion, while also exploring the ideas and opinions I have heard from fellow gamers.

Your Questions and Topics, The Lord Solar Answers... (part 2)
The topic that I was asked to talk about for this installment was by ServvsUmbrarum who also has a blog, The Initiate, (though he has not posted in awhile, hopefully this will encourage him to!) He asked:
"I've got about 2k worth of guard and I was wondering if you could cover an odd topic but something I've been struggling with. How can one build an army list that is both fun to play with and against. One of my biggest issues with the way I play guard is that I just sit back and shoot. I love my other codex's because I'm constantly moving, weighing options but my current Guard list is just so...sit there and shoot, target priority being the only real skill I have to use.So I guess the topic I'd like to see is. "How to make a dynamic guard list that works with the unique nature and strengths of the codex without parking lot.I hope this makes sense. I never like to make my opponent feel disengaged from the battle and am a strong believer in the 'social contract'."

Your Questions, The Lord Solar Answers (All About Allies)
First question was from Grazer who also writes for a couple blogs, Rogue Trader and Claws and Fists so check him out (and perhaps he will join the blog roll legion for DFG after this). His question was as follows
"I'd be interested in what you think are the best options for Allies for IG, and whether you even think they are necessary at all.I have used Blood Angels infantry to try and strengthen my midfield and to fight for objectives, but they are quite expensive and obviously limit the amount of artillery tanks and flyers you can select from the IG codex."

Necron Hybrid Mech Part 1: The 1500 Pt Core, Thoughts from Experience
Old School here with some thoughts from the table tops. I have always believed that Experience Creates Generals and Netlists Create Generics, so while the web loses its collective mind over Necron Air Forces, I want to talk about a list concept I have run since picking the codex up in 5th Edition and how it has translated to 6th edition based on my experience with some secondary information provided through observations of CVinton's performance with a similar take on the Crons. I will say now that this article isn't meant to create another netlist or say "This is the best," it is simply an article about a single concept based on a year of play with the new codex and with these units in particular.

Imperial Guard in 6th Edition, a new series
Hello once again ladies and gents, up here in grand ol' Michigan we have started diving in more and more into the world that is 6th edition. The more we dig in, the more I at least realize things have changed. I do not mean that the entire thing has been turned upside down, but some units have becomes far more viable, and some less so.

Walkers, Tanks and Transports... still worth it?
Last night I played another game of 6th, and once again, found myself REALLY enjoying it. The new scenarios, the warlord traits, everything! The other neat thing about this game was I went back in time a little bit with my list making.
You all know I have been touting the foot guard list with a TON of heavy weapons teams filled with copious amounts of lascannons. Those lists are great, and powerful and definitely get the job done! (Getting me tied for 3rd in a tourney not so long ago in which I made a few REALLY bad play mistakes against one of my most dreaded foes Daemons!)

Space Wolves in 6th Edition
CVinton to talk about some space wolves. 6th Edition has settled in and the rules are becoming more natural, so its time to figure out what it all means. And most importantly, what it means the the Vlka Fenryka.
