My Painted Death Wing Are Up For Grabs!

Old School here to extend an opportunity to our readers to grab a hold of one of my painted armies - The Death Wing. I have too many projects on my bench these days and I am looking at two years coming up where my play time will be constrained more than it has in the last four years. With that said, I am going to offer up the Death Wing to somebody who wants to give it a good home. I had a lot of fun with this army and had a really good run with it over the last two and a half years, with some RTT victories and painted awards, so I look at it as time well invested on my end. Let's take a look at what is up for grabs.

Showcase: Kitbashed Legio Custodes army

Hey everyone, KrautScientist here. Yet another showcase post from me. And while the project I would like to show you today may be a little rougher around the edges than my World Eaters, Traitor Guard or INQ28 retinue, it’s because this is a fun project that helps me to recharge my hobby batteries whenever I feel tired of my other armies.

So what we are looking at here is a small army of Pre-Heresy Custodes, the Empire’s personal bodyguard. I have been in love with the Legio Custodes ever since I read through German WD 112 (from April 2005): Not only did it feature rules for a Horus Heresy campaign, but it also marked the first time I ever saw Dave Taylor’s spectacular Legio Custodes army. There was something about those guys that really clicked with me. And even now, quite a few years later, Dave’s Custodes are still easily one of my favourite armies ever.

Dark Angels in 6th Edition Part 4: Brothers in Arms

Old School here, if you plan to take the Dark Angels as your main detachment or as an ally, there are some great options now and we are Brothers in Arms with some that offer us a good boost. I will be covering Brothers in Arms in this post and will follow this up with a very brief post later concerning other allied options, but that post may not come for some time. As always with these early 6th edition posts, I am not an expert and I think there is much to be learned from discussion as this is a new game for all of us at this point. I don't want to waste your time building it up any more, so here we go ...

Dark Angels in 6th Edition Part 1: Deathwing!

Old School here to talk about the Dark Angels based on my 6th Edition games with the codex and some thoughts I have looking at the FAQ and the new rules. I will cover the codex (and allies) in a series of posts. This will be the first post.

I will cover Deathwing Terminators and some general thoughts in this post and then Ravenwing units and some units I generally used/ plan to use now and what has effected them, our psykers and allies (both who we can take to help us and where we are likely to be used by others) in a series of posts each day until I am done. If you are a fan of the Unforgiven, it may have been a while since you have read anything modern to such an extent! I hope to convey knowledge that may be useful, while not coming off as an expert, because, it is early in 6th edition and we are all new right now!

Battle Report: Craftworld Eldar vs Deathwing!

Old School here with a battle report between Wolfson's Craftworld Eldar and my Death Wing at the newly opened Dropzone Games in Glen Burnie, Md. This game was a lot of fun and had its share of twists and turns and reminded me how Wolfson finally got me from the sidelines to being a player so many years ago. Anyway, here it is:

The Unforgiven: Sons of Caliban

Old School here with this weeks KP and the end of black armoured Thunder Hammer/ Storm Shield termies for the Death Wing. From here on out, it's all speeders, dreads, bonus white armored command squad extras, some shooty termies ... and some rhino chassis in DA Green. Any way, here are eight termies as my offering.

Dark Footdar Development List vs Death Wing: Rematch Batrep!

Old School here with another battle report of Death Wing vs Wolfson's developmental Dark Footdar, inspired by the talk between Reecius of Frontline Gaming and Hyv3mynd over at Synaps3. In our last game, Wolfson was fresh from a long break away from the game and made a couple mistakes. He may have been beat, but he was not defeated and brought it on strong in our second game ...

Battle Report: Death Wing vs Developmental DE Webway list!

Old School here with a quick battle report between my Dark Angels and Wolfson's Dark Eldar. We played at the Battle Bunker in Bowie, MD and Wolfson's force may seem a little rag tag, but it is because we were helping him play test his army before he goes out and buys a ton of plastic. Anyway, Wolfson is trying his hand at Web Way DE and his method of employing one of the portals is a large unit of Grotesques below with two Haemonculi and Lady Malis for the psyker protection. He also brought a couple of venoms hidden behind the fortress, a couple of ravagers in the back, and ...

For the Lion, For the Emperor! Old 1st Legion Colors Never Run!

Old School here with another kill point for the challenge! I know this week has been inconsistent, but there has been a ton of real life going on and we are just now starting to settle down. I have been on a mission to finish off my Dark Angels lately and I think I can do it this week and maybe part of next before moving on to finish Hive Fleet Behemoth (oh you didn't think I forgot about them, did you?). Anyway, let's take a look at some terminators!

Death Wing Squad Painted in Original Legion Colors!

Old School here with my Painting Challenge kill point for this week; a squad of Death Wing Terminators painted in original 1st Legion colors as they would have been up to the "Two-Heads Talking" incident. Anyway, aside from the fact that I had to move back to my crappy camera temporarily, I am pretty happy with these guys and with my force made of "almost fully painted" models, there will be more to come soon!

Back in Black: The first Death Wing Squad makes its painted debut!

Old School here with some photos of the Death Wing's first re-painted squad in their original black color scheme. Let's take a look:

Back in Black; My ruined Death Wing are Reborn!

To move forward, sometimes we have to go back. With my recent Death Wing painting disaster, I had to abandon my plans for a clean white Death Wing army. I worked with the ideas of brass and patina, but it just seemed like a cheap answer and betrayed all of the conversion work I put in with green stuff emblems and chapter symbols.

My frustration mounted during the recent tourney when people told me it looked like a nice "counts as" army. I love counts as, but that is not what my Death Wing is about, so I set out with my airbrush to make things right ...

1500pt Gimdark Toys for Tots Benefit 40k Tourney Report

Old School here laying down my report from the Toys for Tots Grimdark Xmas Tourney I attended this last weekend at Get Your Game On. As you can see in the photo above, the real treat to this tourney was that a ton of toys and cash was raised to benefit children without toys (including a Mt. Dew bottle it seems, lol). Anyway, here is how I did with the Death Wing.

Retake on the Death Wing WIP - Constructive Criticism Required!

Alright, so after the disaster, I realized that without weeks-worth of stripping every last speck of paint of my minis, I would never be able to get the smooth finish I wanted for the Death Wing. So my next move was to try something different. I thought of an army of the dead (kind of like Legion of the Damned, but less fire and brimstone. So I went with a two tone bronze-brass idea, using a 50/50 snakebite leather/ Tin Bitz as a base and Dwarven Brass as the zenithal highlight. I then washed everything Delvan Mud and started playing with the Patina, which is a recipe borrowed from Les Bursley.

The concept of tarnished looking Termies seemed cool and Ghostly Death Wing seemed like an interesting take, but as I move through this WIP model, I am not sure. I really think it could conceptually look cool, but I am at a point where I need somebody else to let me know what they think, so here I am. Click the photos as they are raw images from my camera and should get fairly large.

Belial Conversion, the Beginning!

Old School here on my way to End of Days to set up tables. I just wanted to quickly share my Belial conversion as it stands at the moment.

So far he has Luft Huron's body, the Raven Guard special character's head from forge world and a couple bits off the veterans sprues for Dark Angels.

What you can't see in this photo is that I have set magnets in his arms so I can give him any of the optional wargear. I should finish this conversion in a day or two and then I will show him off before I take him to the painting table.

Let me know what you think.

Death Wing Veteran Sergeant and Good Pics of the Command Squad

Old School here with some pics of my latest member of the Inner Circle; my Death Wing Command Squad Veteran Sergeant. For right now, this guy is filling in for Belial while I build the 1st Company Grand Master. Like any good senior enlisted man, he is ready to fill the boots of his officer at any time! I also included in this post, some pics of the Death Wing I have painted so far, but this time ... I used a good camera! Enjoy the pics.

Ezekiel gets a new look! How I updated my favorite Librarian!

Old School here to present my updated Ezekiel model for my Dark Angels army. He has served me well and has seen combat with both my old Death WIng army and my new one. This model was originally painted a couple of years ago (check the photo directly below this top one). Big difference huh? Anyway, I love this model's pose and menacing look. He is above all my favorite power armoured librarian model. I have several shots of him, so let's take a look.

Heading Into Ard Boyz Semis with the Death Wing

Well, I step off tomorrow in search of 'Ard Boyz glory with the Death Wing at Game Vault tomorrow and I have the pre-tourney jitters as always. I will be rolling the same list I ran in the pre-lims and I feel pretty good about it. I always second guess myself prior to tournies, but it is always the list I question and never my skills. Regardless of what goes down, my plan is to have fun playing 3 games of 40k and if I make it to the top, then I make it.
That is really it. I am not going to stand for any drama from fellow players (as I think we have had enough of that in the blogosphere lately) and I hope my skills speak for themselves. If not, I will simply brush my shoulder off and march off at least having three good games. I will try the best I can to live blog from the event, but sometimes Blogger.Droid is less than cooperative when it comes to posting. Other than that, my brother from another mother, CVinton will also be playing the semis half way across the country, so wish us luck!

Death Wing Apothecary Reporting for Duty!

Old School here with another dose of Death Wing goodness, this time, I will give you a couple shots of my Apothecary (ok, enough puns), but seriously, another command squad member down and until I get my hands on my Huron, this will be the last non-production line DW terminator I crank out. It's all gravy from here on! Let's take a look:

Death Wing Company Banner Bearer Complete!

Old School here, finally cutting through the homework of the course I am currently in and making some progress on my Death Wing. A couple weeks ago, I hit everyone here with a quick WIP of this guys here, so I just wanted to make sure, i fired off a quick post about the completed model (of course as soon as I look at the pics, I notice things I need to tough up or fix). Enjoy the pics:
