Alright, Old School here with another video from Games Day UK 2012 brought to you by our Alpha Legionnaire! This one is the first half of a Q&A session where folks get to talk directly to the designers. Some of the things discussed are the Legio Cybernetica, where the Forge World Heresy Series plans to go and whether or not they will continue to work on 40k material for xenos races.

Hobby Tip Video: Pre-Shading with an Airbrush

Hello Everyone,

General Chaos here with a hobby tip video. A friend of mine who plays Blood Angels gave me a bunch of his vehicles to base coat for him. Since they wasn't mine I decided to experiment with them. I seen a couple guides on pre-shading and thought I'd try it out. What's pre-shading? Well, If you ever look at a well worn airplane you'll notice there's weathering around the sheet metal panels that make up the shell. Like this

Well I was toying around with it and thought I'd create a video, after seeing how the Stormraven came out, on a bunch of razorback/rhinos. Hope you enjoy it and thanks for watching.

Wargaming on a Budget: Cheap, Quality Army Case Video!

Old School here with a quick video about a Cheap and Sturdy Case I use for my army and for Hobby Time on the road. I would like to say that Youtube has been cursed it seems as it keeps shaving the first 10 seconds of the video off, but anyway, let's take a look at my Sham Wow audition!

Pre and Post Shading a Rhino: Airbrush Video

Old School here and recently, in my attempts to keep up with the Joneses (or the CVintons, lol), I purchased an Iwata HP-CS and began scouring the internet for GOOD advice. Starting with what tips CVinton gave me, I looked for techniques that I could practice and maybe even have success with at my admittedly novice level of airbrushing experience. I came across the video below during my research and have to admit that it offers a very solid guide to pre and post shading a rhino ...

Combi-Melta Conversion Video by CVinton

Old School here posting this video for CVinton. In the video, he basically uses his dremel as a lathe. The first time I saw him do this, it really blew my mind, so I asked him to post this. We had some serious issues with Youtube, so the video is a little wide in the column, but I think you can get over it once you see it, I did. Feedback as always is welcome!

The Best Tyranid Conversions on Video - Steveprimebot's Hive Fleet Macabre!

Old School here. It is a rainy day and what better way to kill some time than to look at possibly the best looking Tyranid Army Videos on the Web - of course I mean Steveprimebot's Hive Fleet Macabre. He has a converted Doom, Several Tervigons (all different), an amazing Hive tyrant, the Parasite, Warrior Prime, the best Harpy I have yet to see and a great tutorial ... and that is just what I posted on the blog here today. He actually has batreps, more tutorials and conversions, more Hive fleet Macabre and photos of some units from other armies. Take a look at these videos and if they strike you the way they have me, then go to his channel and check out the rest - these videos are all massively inspiring and i may have to steal a couple of these great ideas! Enjoy.

Tentacle faced Tyrant

Incredible Harpy, using Malanthrope bits

Best Tervigon I have seen yet - also with Malanthrope bits (I am going to steal this idea)

Warrior Prime - kind of a sick looking centuar

The parasite - best conversion of him I have seen by far.

The Doom

And a tutorial on how to paint his scheme - best part is that it is all dimestore paints!
Hopefully you have enjoyed these videos, please go check out his channel and let him know how you feel!

Green Stuff: Fur (with video)

Per request from Skarvald the Troll-faced, here is the first video in what is hopefully a long line of videos about working with green stuff.

Now that you've watched the video, let me focus the camera a little better...

The pattern I wanted you to go for looks like this:

If you repeat this pattern over the whole model you'll come out with a nice fur texture. The 's' can be lengthened or shortened depending on what kind of look your going for, whether long shaggy hair or short human hair. After you get done with your pattern you can just go back and pinch the edges to have them come to a point and even lift them up to give more depth to the sculpt.

And since my flip wasn't focusing for jack here are the final product pictures. Hope it helped! Questions and comment welcome as always.

Old School Salvages a Land Raider for the Warmaster! Photos and Video!

Old School here with a few photos of the Warmaster's Land Raider that I salvaged from a terrible Ebay Land Raider (sorry, I never took photos of that thing).
.
Basically it all started when I won a Land Raider for 15.99 on one of those "I'd never win it for that much anyway" Ebay bids. When I won it, I thought I had a deal as it didn't look that bad in the photos and I figured I'd just re-paint it.

When I got it, it had this shiny Varnish on it that had yellowed and was coming off like skin from the bottom of your foot. It was in bad shape. It was shelved and brought out as a stand in every once and a while. Then one day, I figured that I had to build my unbuilt Land Raider to give Abbadon a Vehicle - but then I thought about the Forge World World Eaters doors I had and took a look at the Ebay raider - I said "Well, I think I can fix it and not have to mess with my newer LR" (If this story is boring you, just go to the bottom of this post and watch the video!)

So I pulled out a knife and some sand paper and started to rub the nasty "skin Varnish" off of my Land Raider and then started glueing bits from a Pegasus Terrain set on it as extra armour(Hogs of War have talked about that set before and it has many uses, check out Pegasus for some futuristic terrain). I then added the quarters from a pewter Warhammer Fantasy set that the FLGS gave me, Spinkled on some skulls and spikes and Ta-Da, I was in business.

I also added the shields to represent the protection of the Dark Gods and Abbadon's Patronage to all four of them. Hopefully, they will watch my dice now!

As always feedback is always welcome. I know there is some stuff to touch up, but I really am pretty proud of this thing considering its humble beginnings. Let's hear what you think. Have a link to a salvage project of your own? Leave it in the comments for others to check out.

Quick Modelling Tip (video): Deburring Tool Makes Easy work of Mold Lines!

Old School here with a quick video displaying the benefits of using a Deburring Tool. CVinton actually spotted this tool being used on Awesomepaintjob.com and sought it out as a way to cleanly remove mold lines from models without dulling hobby blades, risking cuts, harming the model with unneeded chops, runs and ruts.

.

Anyway, see it in action on this video and let me know what you think!

Video Product Review: Dragon Forge Design Power Cables

Old School here with a quick video product review of Dragon Forge Designs' Power Cables. I know most of you have already yawned yourself to sleep at that thought, but those of you that are hard corps converters know there is one thing that sucks when trying to make your own cables and cords - Guitar String (hold on, I just threw up in my mouth thinking about it). We all know Guitar Wire is generall rigid, hell on our clippers, comes unspooled and tends to stab you right under your fingernail (ouch) when you are trying to bend it. It became such a pain to me that I just gave up on it all together ... but then I saw how Dave Taylor had used some of it on one of his conversions and mentioned that it was very bendy.
.
I finally decided to give it a whirl. I went to Dragon Forge, ordered it through PayPal on Sunday and it arrived at my house Wednesday morning - Super-fast shipping is always handy, especially when you do a lot of conversions for commissions. The cables arrived in a sturdy little box with padding inside. The cables come in three sizes, one which would be very good for cables on weapons and small cables on hemets and backpacks. Another size that would work well for Space Marine gas-mask helms or larger weapons and pretty much most 25-40 mm conversion work and then one Larger size that would work well for vehicles, heavy weapons and for monstrous creature size conversions. The best part about these cables is that they can bed easily and can be bent back into place easily as well - cable-conversions are back on line for this guy!
.
Each of the 30 strands you recieve comes a few inches long, which is more than wht you would generally need for most conversions. I think the average hobbyist could buy one pack and be good for a long time and a heavy converter/ commission converter should get a lot of milage out of a bag of these. All for only $7.00! I might just have to make a 4 star rating system for reviews just to give Dragon Forge and this product all four!
.
Here is the video for my review:
.

.
If you have any feedback or if you have had experiences with Dragon Forge Designs both good and bad that you would like to share - we are all ears ... and eyes, since we technically can't hear you!

Video Tutorial: Stripping with Simple Green!

Well, it seems the technical problems with Blogger have calmed down for now and it is time to post! I have a quick Video Tutorial for you today. This one is a simple walkthrough on stripping minis with Simple Green.

I didn't make this with the experts in mind, but rather for those folks who are newer to the hobby or who have never had to strip minis before.

It really is pretty simple. Take some tupperware, put the mini in the tupperware, pour the Simple Green. Let it sit for 24 hours. Take it out and scrub the mini off with a toothbrush and then rinse all the Simple Green off. It works well on metal, doesn't melt plastic (though it also doesn't strip it very well), and the best part is that it is environmentally friendly (No BP here!).

Anyway, hopefully this helps out a few folks. Feedback is welcome as always! Thanks for watching - OST.

Video Tip: Cleaning Your Metal Models Quickly with artists' soap!

Old School her with a Quick Video Tip for cleaning your metal models. Yes, before you nay-say, there is always a certain amount of releasing agent on ALL models. Plastics are not that bad, we all know (or should that resin needs a ton of scrubbing), but few people seem to know that your metal models need a good scrub to help safeguard your paintjob from easily rubbing off.
.
I always open my metal blisters, clip all the extra metal off, then give the metal a good scrub with my handy toothbrush and a little soap from the Hobby Lobby or local Micheal's. This soap is not only a great wat to clean your hands off after a hardcorps "Chuck Liddell of modelling" style hobby session, but it also cleans off your metal minis in seconds - Now there is no excuse for not just cleaning them in order to save yourself the frustration and ridicule of having chippy models! Enjoy the video.
.

.
Look how clean and shiny it got! Comments as always are welcome.

New Leman Russ BT kit magnetized!

I got the new Leman Russ kit on loan to put together for the FLGS and figured I'd share my how-to for magnetizing the turret with bonus Pask option! Enjoy!
