Results from our Ard boyz adventure.
Heya Folks,
As I write this report out I am reminded of how tiring a tournament of this scale can be. Especially when you are up super late the night before helping assemble stormboyz for The Judge.
As we arrived in Ann Arbor for our games we were beset by two things, first our round one winner Greg Sparks, was also playing his second round here, and the place was a bit larger than previously told to us by a fellow gamer. However, no terrain had been set up by the organizers! We had to do it ourselves before the first game! Luckily no one got to upset by it, and most terrain seemed quite fair and balanced.
Once The Judge gets back to me with his battle report I will be posting it... if he gets back to me with it. As for me.... here we go.
Round 1:
Round one saw me up against a Nid player, which is really only my 3rd game against their new codex, and took me shockingly by surprise at the amount of bodies he can put on the field. Yes you just heard an Imperial Guard player say that.
With the unique scenario setup of two table quarters being in night fight, it made it quite easy for my opponent to force me to have to night fight check and measure to see him for a majority of the first 3 turns. This made things happily enough for him seem to go his way, and it was quickly looking like this was going to be a round 1 massacre and drop for myself. However I stemmed the tide quickly by assaulting his giant squad of gaunts and locking their poor strrength 3 up with my armor 10 vehicle, and due to how far out his unit was spread, he blocked the squads behind him from being able to move through, saving me for another turn of shooting, though it wouldn't matter much if I did not get down the Trygon down off my flank who would soon be eating through my entire army. My storm troopers took care of this with their 3-3 guns along with 2 meltas inflicting exactly 6 wounds (hurray twin linked thanks to our dear friend Creed!)
The next turn saw the killing blows to his HQ squad, leaving the poor chap with no synapse creatures near either of the two troops that were holding objectives. though genestealer squad was ravaging my backside, i mainly ignored them to shoot off his two squads holding objectives of the three and put my veterans onto one. Thereby tying the game at the very last turn. We were even tied on kill points at 7 a side! With this result I decided to stick around for round two, as two good wins could still place me high.
Round 2:
A rough match for my opponent, who fielded a heavy Monstrous Creature daemon army against me, a total of 5 MCs including the Lord of Change and Ku'gath, 2 Khorne Daemon Princes, and a Tzeentch daemon prince. He also had a plague bearer squad, two pink horror squads (one with a changeling) and two bloodletter squads.
First turn for him saw his main army in, though with bad scatters, sending him far away from me, but close enough for my own bit of shooting to take down one tzeentch demon prince, his changelings squad and most of the plaguebearers, leaving Ku'gath and The Lord of Change untouched in my second turn. However the four remaining plaguebearers got into close combat with one sentinel and would remain fighting until the last round of the game. His second turn did not see all his remaining units come in and from then out its was simple take down what came in and put a wound or two on Ku'gath until he was dead.
At the end of the game he had been tabled, I held all the objectives, and he had only gotten one kill point. My opponent was a great sport about it, and quite friendly, and would love to see him up at our FLGS sometime!
Round 3.
My hopes were up after round 2, i was in the top groupings of tables and knew that a good result here would lead me into the top 3. However as soon as i saw what army i would be facing i quickly knew i was in for a rough, and possibly horrid time. Blood Angels! Normally I would not be toooooo concerned with them, but in a Dawn of War set up when they can outflank on one board edge? Holy crap is their "everything is fast" really become scary! However I held my own mostly for the first turn, as he went first, losing only a few guardsmen, and thinking luck might just be on my side i move my units on the board, only to be horrified by the rolls my dice poured out, either my blast templates from my tanks scattered into nowhere, or failed to pen any of his vehicles, or just glanced, which really did not do much of anything in the long run. Not able to roll anything above immobilized on any pen hits, the BAs kept coming and eventually ran me down, and i conceded after my 5th turn in which i had only claimed 3 kill points to his 10, and he was going to be claiming a bunch more this turn leaving me with maybe only my HQ squad on the field. A horrifying loss, to a great opponent, GT out of Brighton Michigan who is one of the main guys on MI40K.com this game it turned out was for second place, as my opponent took it!
Final results were simple, I didn't place even in the top 6... out of 14 or 15, though i think i was around 7 or 8. The Judge did far better, coming out in 4th, which means that if one of the top 3 drop, he is in!

'Ard Boyz semi finals tomorrow!
So with the semi finals tomorrow, Luke "The Judge" Slocum and I are headed down to Ann Arbor to take on the other folks who qualified. What shall be the final verdict? Who shall hold sway and come out on top? Will either of us come out and qualify for the finals?
Well, for me at least I am mostly looking to have a good time, and if I do place in the top 3, I will be overly happy, I am just hoping to put on a good show.
Also after much consideration, I have decided I am going to stick to my guns and keep with the original list I took to the first round, because even though it is not the utmost powerful thing. I did not have the models nor the want to figure out how to field a Inquisitor, nor did i want to feel that dirty.
Anyhow, battle reports from my own games will come out afterwords and results for both our games as well. Wish us luck!

In two weeks... what list?
Hello fellow gamers and welcome to hobbyists, I have with me a dilemma and I want your opinion!
I am unsure what list I should take with me to the 'Ard Boyz Semi Finals.
As some of you might know I took second in the Prelims... but that does not mean my list was perfect, you can check it out in the battle report article (click link) I wrote about my experience. However with some feedback from my fellow gamers at my FLGS I have had some doubts about it, currently I am thinking of changing up the list a little bit by taking away a squad of Storm Troopers, the squad of Ratlings, the squad of Multi-laser Sentinals. What I would be adding is a Inquisitor Lord, with a psychic hood, 2 mystics and an Acolyte in a Land Raider and adding a Multi-laser sentinal to the 2 auto cannon sentinals. So the list would be the following:
HQ 1
Comp. Comm. Squad - 290
Creed
Kell
Autocannon
Chimera
HQ 2
Inquisitor Lord - 355
1x psychic hood
2x mystic
1x acolyte
1x Land Raider
Troop 1
Vet Squad - 200
Grenadiers
3x Plas Gun
Chimera
Troop 2
Vet Squad - 155
2x Sniper Rifle
Lascannon
Chimera
Troop 3
Infantry Platoon - 490
Platoon Command Squad
(no upgrades)
Infantry Squad
Grenade Launcher
Heavy Bolter
Infantry Squad
Grenade Launcher
Heavy Bolter
Heavy Weapons Team
3x Mortars
Heavy Weapons Team
3x Heavy Bolters
Heavy Weapons Team
3x Missile Launchers
Heavy Weapons Team
3x Lascannons
Elite 1
Storm Trooper Squad - 185
5x additional Storm Troopers
2x Meltaguns
Fast 1
Hellhound Squadron - 130
1x Hellhound
Fast 2
Scout Sentinal Squadron - 115
2x additional Sentinal
2x Autocannon
Heavy 1
Leman Russ Squadron - 170
1x Leman Russ Battle Tank
1x Heavy Bolter side sponsons
Heavy 2
Leman Russ Squadron - 170
1x Leman Russ Battle Tank
1x Heavy Bolter side sponsons
Heavy 3
Leman Russ Squadron - 260
1x Leman Russ Vanquisher
1x Knight Commander Pask
1x Plasma Cannon side sponsons
1x Hull mounted Lascannon
The real problem is I feel like i am copying every other damned IG player as of late, (minus the Land Raider... but comon... its a land raiders... who doesn't want one?) and that makes me feel quite crappy, but how else am I going to get protection against psionic powers? Since this is the only way, I might as well take the extra bonus of being able to shoot at deep strikers... anyhow...
Let me know what you think.
Until next time, burn some heretics, kill some mutants, and do it as always...

'Ard Boyz prelim round Bat rep and list for my 2nd place finish!
Well as some of you might have read, my Death Korps of Krieg and Cadian armies merged together to do battle with the demons, heritics and xenos that had infested Garden City, Michigan and happily crushed (mostly) their opponents in the battlefield. Yet how could this be? How did the stand up to such mighty foes? Well let me tell you!
First lets get down to the list, this will help you understand how I did what I did! (on a side note, i decided to play in and make my list for the night before as Evo, DFG's FLGS, and even had to fix up some broken models to do so!) So here is the list.

Whew! That was a lot of stuff.... but now to the battle reports!
Round 1
I was faced off with Demons... and immediately had a fight on my hands.... A fight with the dice gods... The list ran by my opponent was solid, but not overly imposing for my own, I had plenty of plasma, melta, lascannon, and large blast to deal with his large squads of Demonettes and Bloodletters, his squad of bloodcrushers and his soulgrinders.... however.... when said plasma and meltas only want to roll twos for the first two rounds to hit and wound.... not much a man can do. So I had to rough it out with my heavy bolters and blast templates for awhile but eventually i was able to narrow down his forces, not after some horrible losses along the way though. In the end he held two objectives and I only one, a minor loss, but i made up points in the secondary objectives by killing Kugath, amongst other things. A good game and both opponents were sure they had not seen rolling quite like that before (on either side)
Round 2
After returning from lunch and buying some new dice I found myself across from SeerKarandras who posts at Craftworld Lansing and his Eldar, check out his site as he has opinions on this fight as well and posts some interesting insights. At the start of the game things went badly, I lost a Leman Russ BT, my hellhound lost its flame template, and my heavy bolter team lost one of its 3... it was a scary thing to witness! However I had held my squads of Storm Troopers in reserve to Deep Strike so they were safe from the punishment. Immediately i knew I had to kill off some of his lances and went to work on his Guardian squad and one of his wraithlords, killing off the WL and brutally murdering some of his guardians (along with a few Dire Avengers) but not really taking out anything to devistating yet. Turn two he finished rocketing up the board and unloading some stuff, along with a squad of his striking scorpians sliding onto the board and assulting my lascannon vets' chimera! However he only managed to stun it, while his wraithguard did the same to my plas vets' chimera, an unfortunate turn of events for him. My ratlings also took a beating from Eldrad and his squad of thugs, but managed to live on and stick in their foresty holes for now. My turn came and in came both my ST squads, first one rocketed down near his striking scorps and blasted them away along with my combined infantry down to a single model, while the others blew apart Eldrad's squad along with the remaining heavy bolter teams, causing him to run away! By this point the game was mostly over, though SeerKarandras had a few more tricks up his sleeves by taking out my lascannons and missle launchers, but it was to little to late. A major victory for me and lots and lots of victory points as well. It seemed the new dice were fond of me...
Round Three
I was faced off with some obviously heretical space marines, as they were fighting me....duh! Who decided that staying off the board round one was wise due to the amount of firepower i could put out, minus two scout squads and a scout bike squad. However one squad was half reduced to ashes by the hellhound and the other went to ground to prevent a slaughter from the amount of firepower placed on them (and who doesn't want their scouts to have a 2+ save sometimes!) While the scout bikes were torn apart by Creed telling his men to first rank fire, second rank fire and a torrid amount of multilaser fire from scout sentinals. The game seemed to continue on a slow downhill for my opponent, his drop pod squad now taking out the hell hound with its melta, nor in its assault turn two with my stormtroopers who killed off half the squad before they assaulted, nor did his squads have timely enterence into the game, his landspeeder storms filled with scouts came in before his termies and landraider, his vanquisher managed to make my Ratlings run but they kept being regrouped by Creed, and I was just able to concentrate fire far to much for him to handle, ravaging down his army until just a few souls remained, beating him by 5 kill points and over taking him in Victory Points as well. He was a good and fun player to play against though, and hopefully will see him again in some tournament.
So in all I took second place, and qualified for regionals! I cannot wait to go to them along with Luke "The Judge" Slocum and his green tide.
Until next time, burn some heretics, kill some mutants, and do it as always...
