Greetings Hivers!
A couple of years ago (Yikes! It turns out it was five years ago!) I built a backdrop to be used for photographing our gangs and as a small scenery piece for our Black Legacy Campaign (which turned out to be a good 5 years before GW released the Secundas Campaign π). We enjoyed using it in our campaign and the idea of creating a much larger version popped into my head and I filed the idea away under the Random Necromunda Ideas™ part of my brain. After extensive searches for a suitable box...one that wouldn't cost a kidney to buy or the need to complete an apprenticeship as a cabinet maker to build...I pretty much gave up on the idea of ever finding one...
I was a little concerned that I wouldn't have enough terrain to fill such a large space but lo and behold I have enough terrain to fill another four boxes!
I stumbled across my Shadow War Armageddon terrain box, 2 original Kill Team boxes of terrain, a bunch of Necromunda Bulkheads (new and old), Mantic terrain and an awful lot of regular 40k terrain that hasn't seen the light of day since 5th edition (ah, the good old days when no 40k battlefield looked the same π).
My old mate Iain gave me the Battlezone Fronteris box last year and I decided it would be perfect to fill out a level on this project...Cheers Iain! |
With the backdrop being so large, I decided to paint most of the pieces before I fix them in place. Of course this means that I really have no idea what the finished build will look like...the Underhive isn't exactly known for its planning permission so it seems fitting enough π
You wouldn't believe how many times I've glued stuff in and then ripped it back out the next day because I've had a better idea...still, it keeps me out of mischief πI'm currently cutting up an old 40k Bastion to use as towers for a gate that leads to the Ash Wastes and I feel like there needs to be a tunnel of some description some place on the lower levels...hmm...maybe with giant cobwebs covering the entrance....Ok that's it for now, I'm off to see if I can discover a method to create some sort of cobweb that won't break as soon as it's touched....
This is insanely awesome, I'm in deep love with this project. I'm drooling over the keyboard.

DeleteI'm really enjoying this project. The lack of planning and resulting messing around is turning into something of a labour of love. I admit it might not be the most efficient method of building but it is enjoyable.
I can totally relate to that! It's my same approach XD Keep on, this is turning out incredibly good
