A happy 44th birthday to Irish actor Emmett J Scanlan, seen here celebrating the milestone (and his birthday suit) on his Instagram this morning. We've thought Emmett swell ever since he played the gay zombie love-interest in the glorious (but unfortunately short-lived) series In the Flesh -- which PS streams on Hulu now and you owe it to yourself to watch if you never have. It's a wondrous little thing, not to mention it was the first place I saw and fell for the great actress Wunmi Mosaku, who's been knocking it out of the park recently with her roles in Lovecraft Country and the phenom horror flick His House. Anyway sexy Emmett works plenty too -- he was on that Charlie Cox series Kin that I somehow still have to watch, and he did Peaky Blinders as well. Thanks for sharing the birthday gratuity with us, Emmett!

Some TV Stuff
Did any of you watch Charlie Cox's series Kin on AMC? I posted about it exactly once last August, and I watched exactly one episode, and then completely forgot about it. It wasn't because I thought it wasn't good -- I just forgot. Our brains have been through a lot lately, alright? And there's a lot of TV happening besides. Anyway I was reminded of Kin because apparently not everyone was as absent-minded as me and the show actually got renewed for a second season this week. So I am guessing some of you watched it! We do love Charlie, as we've made clear for a very long time, so I should probably circle back and give it another go. The show also starred Emmet Scanlan, another furry British fave of ours. That said it would appear, via some brief investigations on my part, that Charlie only took his shirt off once and it was extremely dark, so they need to do better next time around. Do better, Kin! (Sidenote: Charlie's telling EW today that we should very much expect to see him showing up in the MCU again after his surprise cameo in the last Spider-Man. Busy busy boy, just how we like it)
Some other TV news -- Jake Gyllenhaal's 2012 movie End of Watch (oh my god, how is that movie a decade old), which saw him playing a bald-headed police officer alongside a not-bald-headed Michael Peña as his partner and followed them, Found Footage style, over the course of one hellish night, is being turned into a series by FOX. David Ayer, who went on to make a truly terrible Suicide Squad movie -- sidenote: have you seen the "Release the Ayer Cut" nonsense happening all of a sudden? Good grief -- directed the film and will apparently have some writing duties at least on this series, but I think we can all safely assume that neither Gyllenhaal nor Peña will be returning for the show. I haven't seen EOW in awhile and don't remember how it ends (maybe I'll rewatch it this weekend) but I do know (spoiler alert) that it involves supernatural forces, so I'm guessing this series is going to be capitalizing on that show Evil, which is doing well right? I don't watch it but I kinda wish I did, it sounds fun.
Anyway I haven't been bringing up TV enough lately -- what are y'all watching that you like? I have been watching a ton -- I'm currently switching around between Station Eleven, The Gilded Age (I did mention that one), Somebody Somewhere, my screeners of the new season of Russian Doll and the limited series Joe vs Carole, (don't ask, I can't say anything), oh and I watch one episode of the last season of PEN15 about once a month in order to draw that amazing show out for as long as I possibly can. Station Eleven is superb by the way, if anybody's not watching that.

Pic of the Day
I am literally always, every minute of every day, wondering what Charlie Cox is up to -- and sometimes the universe answers back! Like today! When what should be sitting in my inbox but this new photo along with news of this new program that will star Charlie. A good day, then! The show is called Kin and it's an Irish crime drama that will co-star among others the very Irish trio of Aidan Gillan, Ciaran Hinds, and Emmet J. Scanlan (who we've loved ever since the gay zombie series In the Flesh and talk about a project I need to revisit). I don't have a release date but I do have a plot description:
"A boy is killed. And his family embarks on a gangland war with an International cartel, a war that is impossible to win. It’s David and Goliath. Out-numbered, out-financed, and out-gunned. The Kinsellas find themselves holed up in their Dublin stronghold while their businesses fail, and family members and associates are picked off. But they have something the cartel does not, the unbreakable bonds of blood and family... KIN is a world where gangsters are treated like reality stars, with nicknames and celebrity status. Where assassins dress up as women, and drug dealers keep exotic pets in their garage. A world of drugs and guns and murder and loyalty and family and men … And a woman. KIN is an eight-part Irish crime drama with a stellar cast including Charlie Cox, Clare Dunne, Aidan Gillan, Ciaran Hinds, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Sam Keeley, Emmet J. Scanlan, and Yasmin Seky."

Today's Fanboy Delusion
Today I'd rather be...
... sunning myself with Emmett Scanlan.
Congrats to Emmett on the news that his Krypton character of Lobo getting a spin-off -- I don't watch Krypton but I do wish well for all of the people involved with my beloved show In the Flesh for the rest of time. Cuz hey if they're all successful maybe one day they'll do some more Flesh episodes! (pic via)

Good Morning, World
.
Been awhile since we checked in with Brit actor Emmett Scanlan, who we first got to know thanks to the far-too-short-lived zombie drama In the Flesh (have y'all managed to seek that show out by now, by the way? It is streaming on Amazon Prime and it's so so good) -- right now he's playing the father of a trans girl on the ITV miniseries Butterfly (which is what these gifs are from) opposite our beloved Pushing Daisies star Anna Friel; he also just recently joined the cast of the second season of the Superman show Krypton on SyFy, where he's playing the bounty hunter Lobo I guess - I know he had to get jacked for it anyway. Alright happy Monday everybody, and hit the jump if you want a couple more...

Emmett Scanlan Five Times
.
It's been awhile since we've had the opportunity to post on our ol' In The Flesh crush Emmett Scanlan - man we miss that show! I keep hoping it'll sneak out a surprise third season but everybody involved's moved on (creator Dominic Mitchell works on Westworld, for one) so I suppose I should too... nope, never. Anyway Emmett and his beautiful head full of beautiful hair has got a role on the upcoming Netflix series called Safe, which premieres on May 10th, hence his new interview and photo-shoot for Crooke's Magazine, seen here. Or after the jump anyway...

Today's Fanboy Delusion
Today I'd rather be...
... getting sticky with Emmett Scanlan.
Hey oh it's a few more gratuitous pictures of Emmett working on that short film in the desert that we posted some also-worth-clicking-on pictures the other week. Emmett and friends!

Today's Fanboy Delusion
Today I'd rather be...
... making my own mirages with Emmett Scanlan.
IMDb is no help in figuring out what the hell my one-time-zombie-boyfriend Emmett's making here - his Instagram tells us it's called The Green Rabbit and The Ice Cream Girl, which as you can see, for as strange as it sounds...
... is quite literal a title. (The sexy ripped rabbit is played by Kevin Ryan, whose Instagram is right here, by the way.) And Emmett's friend and fellow actor (not to mention fellow sexy beast) Eion Macken is apparently directing it.
I found these scant details out by bouncing
around these folks Instagram accounts, but otherwise...
... ya got me. But ignorance will never keep me from celebrating the sight of Emmett Scanlan in just white boxer shorts and work-boots stomping around in the sunshine, clearly.
Clearly.

Emmett The Bear
.
I'm still waiting for the time when seeing Emmett Scanlan doesn't first fill my heart with sadness over his series In the Flesh being cancelled - he's helping a brother out by going Full Bear though, since it's a look so different from his look on that gay zombie show. The beard was presumably for his role on that The Bible 2: The ReGoodBookening, which airs starting on Sunday...
... weirdly I think he's playing the same fellow that Hugh Jackman just signed on to play in a Big-Screen Movie. Apostles are so hot right now! Anyway there are a bunch of pictures after the jump of him via his Instagram and from the red carpet sporting full furriness...

Today's Fanboy Delusion
Today I'd rather be...
... tasked with Emmett Scanlan's spray-tan.
Emmett posted this picture yesterday of himself and his lush beard slash everything getting his make-up applied for that AD: The Series thing he's in (which I really think should be titled The Bible 2: Electric Boogaloo, so that's what I will refer to it as from now on) and don't you just HATE that girl immediately? I hate you, girl!
This reminds me though - I'd forgotten to post about the bad sad news that the great great BBC zombie series In the Flesh, which is where I came to know and love and lust after Emmett in the first place, officially got the axe - no 3rd season for us. Boo, BBC. Boo.

Emmett's Flesh
.
I'm such a shit - I totally forgot that my furry British boyfriend Emmett Scanlan (one of many many furry British boyfriends, admittedly), so great on the great In the Flesh, was going to be on Constantine, and of course I only remember this after word breaks that production on the show's been stopped. It's not quite cancelled yet, but that's not what happens to show's going gangbusters, ya know? Has anyone watched any of it? All I did remember was the controversy surrounding the bi-washing of the character, which'd turned me off at the start. Anyway here's an interview with Emmett from a few days ago, before they halted production on the show; the bit I care about (besides the pictures, natch) is when he's asked about a third season of In the Flesh, which is still not green-lit:
"I'd be interested, but no-one has heard anything about its future. It's a remarkable piece of original drama, and in an ideal world it would have its ending. That said, let's not forget the two seasons gone before, and thank the BBC for that. That's something to be incredibly proud of. Something to take away from all this. That said, fuck the previous two, give us two more…"
It seems crazy - CRAZY - that this is even an issue. Come on, BBC! The show's so good! You guys are supposed to be more attune to that sort of thing that us feeble-minded Americans, right?

Good Morning, World
.
Although I'm no public advocate for the shaving off of the bountiful masculine gift of body hair, that appears to just be a trim that Emmett Scanlan's giving himself there, so I won't argue. This time.
Anyway although I have posted a billion pictures of Emmett over the past few months since he caught my eye on the second (wonderful) season of BBC's zom-drama In the Flesh I've still somehow managed to fall behind - hit the jump for several pictures he's posted to his Instagram as of late.

Good Morning(ish), World
.
That's Emmett Scanlan, the Irish actor we fell for (and gratuitized back in July) via the BBC's most wonderful zombie show In the Flesh, shirtless-selfie'ing himself on his Instagram over the weekend. He says he's gotten ripped thanks to Joe Manganiello's book! Clearly they should "collaborate." Anyway this post is later than the usual "Good Morning, World" post because New York Film Festival screenings are going on right now; I'll be inhabiting strange hours for the next few weeks, so have patience with me, my loves. Cinema demands so much sacrifice!

I Am Link
.
--- Meet The Spectre - I suppose you've got to be a fan of the British zombie show In the Flesh to be excited about this news, but, well, you should be a fan of that show, I've been telling you for months to watch it. Anyway Emmett Scanlan, who was on the show's second season and I documented gratuitously right here (you wanna click that link), has signed on to play the DC comics character Jim Corrigan aka The Spectre in NBC's upcoming Constantine show. I wasn't going to watch this show because of the whole de-gaying thing but I dunno if I can resist Emmett. Maybe they're lying to us about Constantine not being bi and we'll find out when he and Emmett start making out all of a sudden. Emmett's played gay tons by now, he wouldn't let us down. Keep hope alive! And related to that there's still no word on a third series for In the Flesh, I think? Really really keep hope alive.

.
--- Girl Detective - The latest name tossed on the True Detective heap (sidenote: did you see that I rode on an elevator with cary Fukunaga last week? No that's not a euphemism, unfortunately) for the second season is Rachel McAdams; apparently she and Elizabeth Moss are the two up for the female lead. Is it weird that I'm leaning towards McAdams? I feel like Moss already did this sort of thing with Top of the Lake, which she's gonna have trouble topping. Toss Rachel a bone.
--- Freaks Leaks - The first proper trailer for American Horror Story's upcoming fourth season subtitled Freak Show has arrived - it doesn't actually have footage from the show but we do get to see everybody in character, from Kathy Bates and her bushy beard to Angela Bassett's extra boobie to two-headed Sarah Paulson and the grande dame herself Jessica Lange, getting shadowed by a little person. If Evan Peters had shown his ass it'd have everything we'd need in one little minute.
--- Up North - I'm not going to link to a bunch of reviews from the Toronto fest because we'd be here all day (there is a lot showing there I wanna see) but our pal Joe Reid is reporting from up there and he met Greta Gerwig and has been in rooms with Laura Dern and Juliette Binoche in them so he can just go to hell! Bastard person. I've really gotta try to go next year.
--- Mat Dancer - I've been meaning to watch the "Paul Newman plays a boxer" movie Somebody Up There Likes Me for a very long time because, well, I just said "Paul Newman plays a boxer" weren't you paying attention? Anyway the film is by the director Robert Wise and Wise has a centennial coming up which The Film Experience is celebrating, so here's Nat talking about Somebody Up There Likes Me. Pictures of Paul Newman included.
--- Give Me Fever - Well this is a big fucking deal - Todd Haynes has announced his next project (after Carol, the Patricia Highsmith adaptation with Cate Blanchett that we're literally dying for) is going to be a bio-pic of the singer Peggy Lee, and it will star Reese Witherspoon. Oh and it was written by Nora Ephron. I know absolutely zilch about Peggy Lee; did she have an interesting life or something? Anybody?
--- Dredd Second Steel - A pair of unexpected sequels getting mentioned over at DH today that I won't hold my breathe about - first off Karl Urban says there's a chance
we could see a prequel to his Dredd movie; there was stuff I liked
about the first one (although I wasn't as nutty over it as some people
were), including Karl Urban himself, always, so I wish him well even as I
remain terribly skeptical. And secondly director Shawn Levy says there could be a Real Steel 2, which I'm only mentioning because Hugh Jackman sure did bounce around wearing sweatpants a lot in that first one didn't he? Sigh.
.
.
--- Boston Strong - Matt Damon is re-teaming with Margaret director Kenneth Lonergan to make Manchester-by-the-Sea, which will be about a plumber who returns to his hometown of Boston when his brother dies and finds himself having to take care of his brother's teenage son. Sounds like You Can Count on Me and Margaret kinda mashed up doesn't it?

Emmett Scanlan Two More Times
.
Doesn't he look a ton like Hugh Jackman there? Anyway listen I'm not even going to pretend I spent today doing anything other than looking up pictures of Emmett okay? It is what it is. But instead of continuing to add the new ones I find to the set-to-burst gratuitous post I posted this morning (which you should click on again if you haven't since this morning - I have indeed added a bunch to it already) I figured I'd set these out in the open here, let 'em breathe. Oh Emmett, what have you done to me?

Good Morning, Gratuitous Emmett Scanlan
.
Maybe my words of praise weren't enough to get you guys to watch the spectacularly good BBC zombie-drama In the Flesh.
Maybe what I have to do is point you in the direction of Mr. Emmett J. Scanlan, and bribe you. I am okay with that. Emmett, are you okay with that?

Emmett is okay with that.
Emmett is really...
... really...
... quite very...
Okay you get the point. I am totally obsessed with the Irish actor right now though, so you'll forgive me. I've been meaning to do this post for a couple of weeks but it's a big one (heh, big one - INDEED. You'll see) and I wanted to put the effort in to gather up all I could. And here we are!
Besides playing the dreamiest zombie you've ever seen on the second season of In the Flesh (he wasn't on the first but you should still watch both seasons dammit!) Emmett's known over in the UK for, I guess, making out with a guy on that Hollyoaks show a lot?
I found lots and lots of pictures of these two kissing. And Emmett's also going to be in Guardians of the Galaxy! Granted his part's described on IMDb as "Head Guard" so it might not be a big part (heh, big part - INDEED) but he is in the trailer.
Let's hope the secret plot of Guardians is the long-term relationship between Emmett and Chris Pratt then. Alright I have no more words, we need to hit the jump and see all the many many pictures now. Let's go! Emmett you lead the way...
