As Americans, we’re gradually becoming more conscious of what we shove into our face holes, which often leaves us at an impasse with one of our best culinary friends: bacon.
Although bacon is always there for us when things are going well, showing up on pizza and hanging out in amazing breakfast sandwiches, it is noticeably absent when everything digests and our hearts catch on fire.
It may be time to find a new breakfast buddy. Fortunately for us, scientists have discovered an unassuming food that could very well serve as a healthier alternative to bacon. Al Roker is pretty stoked about it, to say the least.
Dulse seaweed is a dinnertime staple in Iceland.
And as it turns out, it’s delicious. Served in its natural state, it doesn’t really resemble bacon. But when you fry it up, it proves to be a worthy adversary against our favorite gut-busting treat.
So long, bacon! Maybe we’ll see you again when we get drunk and visit Checkers at 3 o’clock in the morning. But for now, this relationship just isn’t working out.
