The Amazing Stuff

We’ve all been there: we’ve had an exhausting day at work or running errands and all we want to do when we get home is collapse. But then the phone rings or the kids are running around craving attention…suddenly sleep seems like a pipe dream.

Sonar, a doberman mix, knows this feeling all too well…because no sooner than the second he shut his eyes, Libby the adorable great dane puppy wanted to strike up a play session.

I’m surprised Sonar actually got a break — good thing Libby’s mom was nearby to get her off the big guy’s back. Just give him an hour, girl.

August 26 is one of the best days of the year. Why? Well, you may not know it, but it’s National Dog Day! (Not that every day isn’t like National Dog Day for all the true pup lovers out there.) It’s a day to bust out the party hats, bells, and whistles, because it’s your prime excuse to celebrate that pooch of yours!

Let’s get started with these 26 reasons why you should do something special for your canine companion today:

1. They couldn’t care less if they’re missing a limb.

2. …Or two.

3. They get super excited when they meet a look-alike.

4. They come in all shapes and sizes.

5. They’re really good at tennis.

6. And can teach you how to skateboard.

7. They’re super easy to forgive.

8. They make great beds…for other dogs.

9. Sometimes they even let the cat sleep on them.

10. They’re just as pumped about puppies as we are.

11. Because, well…they’re kinda weird.

12. Forbidden love has never stopped them.

13. Because of head tilts.

14. They’re very helpful shopping companions.

15. They really, REALLY appreciate the little things.

16. They make great first mates.

17. They’re always there for each other.

18. Even if they have totally different personalities, they’re still best friends.

19. They give the most comforting goodbyes.

20. They also can’t wait to greet you when you get home.

21. They win awards just for being cute.

22. They really appreciate your massages.

(And you don’t mind giving them, either.)

23. Because they’re very photogenic. All of them.

There are hundreds, no, thousands of other reasons to celebrate this day. I’m sure you all have your own special reason to celebrate your fur baby…so dish out the treats and extra snuggles! Maybe a surprise trip to the lake or dog park is in order?

Growing up as an only child can be lonely sometimes. While Julian, or Little J, as his mother likes to call him, definitely keeps himself busy with his extracurricular activities — he’s a ballet dancer and violinist — our guess is he wouldn’t call himself an only child at all. That’s because of a few very special friends he hangs out with on a daily basis…

Dogs really aren’t really known for being super good at self-control. Leave a plate unattended by one for a mere second and you can say goodbye to your snack.

This adorable Frenchie can’t even contain himself when his human starts to ask a simple question. The man isn’t able to finish his sentence before the pup starts winding himself up in a mega-excited frenzy. It’s so hilarious and so, so cute.

I think it’s safe to say that this cutie might want to go for a walk. His human better make it a nice long one, too, if he wants to get rid of all that energy!

How many times have you flown a private jet across the country?

If you’re response is something along the lines of laughter, jealousy, or even a little bit of anger towards those who enjoy this luxury often, you’re not alone. But private planes aren’t just for the rich and famous.

Not long ago, we introduced you to an incredible organization called Wings of Rescue. The group of pilots donate their time and private planes to fly rescue dogs facing terrible conditions or even death in overcrowded California animal shelters. Recently, we got to see them in action.

As the plane flew into a local airport in New York, it looked like any other small luxury jet. You’d think someone with an entourage was about to step onto the tarmac. Two pilots deplaned and the jet was soon swarming…you’ll never believe why.

The sad fact that hundreds more dogs face euthanasia every day only makes places like North Shore all that important. Not only do they rescue and adopt dogs out in the tri-state area, but they also travel around the country, working with shelters in every state. The goal is to find every animal a loving forever home.
