NEW PAINTING The Red Dress

"The Red Dress," 16"x20", acrylic mixed media on flat panel. This painting, along with a collection of sister trees, will be available for purchase next Tuesday, April 19th. In the meanwhile please   reach out   with any questions and thanks so much for your interest in my artwork. Last week I encountered a grove of bare trees cloaked in an aggressively growing ivy. I was fascinated by their variety of shapes - gangly, uncomfortable, hiding, some seeming to fight off the invasive ivy, others preening in their glorious capes. I took a few photos, but really, where I have found the most enjoyment (and inspiration) is in my memory of them. And that's what I painted from today.   Working from memory sets me free from the expectation of precise marks and allows a sort of reveling in the details that struck me most. I find the result much more satisfying than actually sitting in the woods and trying to capture their likeness - or essence - directly. It's also co...

They got about 5 hours of active painting and Q&A in real time, broken into sessions happening on Friday and yesterday. Even still, that wasn't enough time to finish this painting - I spent a good chunk of today tying up loose ends and finessing the piece. And now I'm editing a shorter video that summarizes the final stages that took place off camera. It's a different way of teaching, for certain. I'm used to leading in person workshop experiences, but in light of covid and the uncertainty of when it will be safe for all to travel (and spend) again, I built   an online space   that provides the same sort of quality i...

I need to learn more about the Inuit community and their ties to these bears - someone told me that it's rather mystical. I'd like to understand it better myself - and perhaps that will make me a better painter, too, of these delightfully engaging animals. Also, Friday (only two more wakeups!!), at 10am eastern, I will be doing a live painting demo in   my online classroom . I will have multiple cameras set up (both my easel and palette/work surface), giving each student a front row seat from the comfort of their own home, as I share - with real time q&a - how I respond to my world and tur...

I will have multiple cameras set up (both my easel and palette/work surface), giving each student a front row seat from the comfort of their own home, as I share - with real time q&a - how I take my own goosebumps (like experiencing a flock of cardinals flying around me yesterday) and turn them into paintings. This demo is offered via zoom webinars; participants must have zoom installed on their devices and be enrolled in the Real Time tier of   my patreon . All Real Time online students will have access to watching the demo live, along with a recorded version of the presentation. Real Time participation c...

"Out on a Limb," 24" x 18", acrylics and graphite on panel, $799 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. Returning collectors get 10% off. I accept Paypal, personal checks and payment plans.   Please message me.   Continuing to be inspired by the deep snow and the flurry of bird activity in our yard, I took what I learned while painting   "Three,"   and began several other pieces. I'm also working on a large commission that is simply blowing my mind in a good way - which I love to have happen!! Thanks for following along on my painting journey. Stay well, Fondly, Kim

NEW PAINTING Three

I accept Paypal, personal checks and payment plans.   Please message me. We got plenty of snow last night, and that meant delaying starting my day to dig us out. Which truly upset me at the time, because after   yesterday's painting , I was dying to get in the studio and start pushing paint. But something happened. While I was shoveling (and muttering under my breath about why it seemed like a good idea back in July to sell our snow blower in the garage sale), I noticed the lace like patterns of bare branches agains the fresh snow. And the birds were huddled together, in the densest part of the trees and shrubs, giving me a piece of their minds, too. So that is what I painted today. And there just might be more of these. It's sort of like a Daydream painting, but...

NEW PAINTING Mother Time

"Mother Time," 18" x 24", acrylics and graphite on flat panel, $799 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. Returning collectors get 10% off. I accept Paypal, personal checks and payment plans.   Please message me.   As the snow literally flies, a polar bear materialized on my easel. She has a blue eye, representing the night, and a gold one for the dawn. HInts of pink, green, orange and purple speak to the seasons that will reveal themselves (sooner, rather than later, I hopw). This is Mother Time. My   online students  are getting a video-ed lesson on the creation of this painting. You are always welcome to join us, and watch how these sorts of things come to life. Thanks for following along on my painting journey. Meanwhile, stay out of this miserable weather and pour yourself something warm. Stay well, Fondly, Kim
