Enlightened

Enlightened view her on my website Enlightened, original acrylic on panel, 30”x24”, $1300 plus s&h. I always welcome your questions (yes, I offer payment plans - details below). Just  reach out . These slivers of energy spilling outward from the core of  the last couple foxes  - I’m painting what it looks like to pray or send love (or whatever you call it) out into the world. The complexity of all the feels and possibilities inside each of us, spinning and orbiting like planets and stars hurtling through space, I find mesmerizing. We have our own interior constellations and the veil between us and the world is thinner than it appears. You can view - or purchase - Enlightened  on my website .  Let me know  if you would like a payment plan (30% non refundable deposit with the balance plus shipping paid in full inside 12 months time). Repeat offenders, i.e. returning collectors, please use “COLLECTOR10” at checkout for 10% off the acquisition of ori...

Manifest

Manifest view her on my website Manifest, original acrylic on panel, 30”x24”, $1300 plus s&h. I always welcome your questions (yes, I offer payment plans - details below). Feel free to  reach out  and share some love. What if I applied the bird and flower concept I’ve been smitten with the last couple weeks to a fox? That’s what I was curious about when I started this one.  I began by painting a cloud filled sky, then drew in a fox in profile, intending to crown her with a glorious purple dahlia. But she had other plans. She enticed me with that dancing edge inside her body on the left, and once I indulged that, the idea of a flower dissolved.  As an intuitive painter, I don’t allow myself to force anything into a piece. I’ve learned that when I do, the painting suffers - it loses some of it’s spirit and magic. So while I start with an idea, that’s just the launching point. I let that bit go when the painting shows me something else I couldn’t have dreamt ...

Ribbons of Sky

Ribbons of Sky, 48"x36" original painting, acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, $5000 plus s&h. This painting will ship rolled and require restretching at your end. A repurable framer can easily do this.  Please reach out  with any questions. Ribbons of Sky was a fantastic teacher. Yes, my paintings teach me. They teach me what to do and what not to do, and this lady was no exception. I thought she was finished on Friday, and I had a burst of adrenaline as I cleaned up the studio. Then Saturday morning I looked at her and she felt unresolved. The dark value shape comprising the right edge of the bear was lovely in how it vibrated, but that illusion overwhelmed the sincerity in her face. Sunday I spent some time with her, too, and compared her to some of my other pieces as a means of trying to learn from them what she might need. Aura  minced no words. There wasn't nearly enough line work, she said, and as lovely as that dark passage was, it needed to be...

NEW PAINTING Petunia

Petunia, acrylic on panel, 24"x24", $1200 plus s&h   to the first asking nicely . Questions can always come  to me. Some paintings are problematic, more so than others, taking a substantial amount of time and effort to figure out. And in the course of resolving them, I end up learning so much about myself. Petunia was just that. While she evolved the last 6 months, I faced some challenging trials in every facet of my life. Petunia responded to each during that time with a new layer of marks involving dramatic shifts. With hindsight, I can see now that the things I chose to try out in paint were extensions of the same things I was unpacking in my own life. This piece has also been a breakthrough for me in that I can see now with clarity what it means to pull an idea out from my internal well of knowing - what Jung referred to as a "collective unconscious" - a space I plan to choose to work from going forward. The final detail, and the title of this painting, ca...

NEW PAINTING The Smallest Light

The Smallest Light, acrylic on panel, 24"x24", $1200 plus s&h   to the first asking nicely . Questions can always come  to me. Titled for one of my favorite songs,  The Smallest Light by Ingrid Michaelson , this painting is about multiple and simultaneous points of view. The mouse asks us to see the world from her perspective in a design where the skyscape collides with her little corner of the universe. This is the perfect painting for anyone with big dreams and desires. I am very curious about edge treatment - how an abrupt edge like the vertical sky on the upper right can transform spatial energy and convey a sense of vastness alongside her small little pocket of garden. You can see The Smallest Light in greater detail  here ,  view her up close and in a room setting, and find a link to purchase.  Let me know if you would like a payment plan (30% non refundable deposit with the balance plus s&h paid off within a year) - those are set ...

NEW PAINTING Cumulous

Cumulous, acrylic and graphite on cradled wood panel, 20"x24", 1-1/2" profile, sides painted so no need to frame, $1500 plus s&h to   the first asking nicely . Questions can always come  to me. the crows continue to come off my easel I suppose I could officially call them a murder, right? This is the 4th crow painting in this avian-venture.  I thought it might be fun to treat this painting as a vessel using some of my treasured techniques, as a nod to crows collecting their own treasures. There's many layers of marks, random line work, drippy paint, carved brushwork, warped organics, nuanced color, a bright sky and floral filled heart. And of course an eye that is full of life. You can see Cumulous in greater detail  here  and even make her your own.  Also, the next live session of Watching Paint Dry will be on May 24th at noon eastern. This will be a show and tell, with the camera turned on YOU and your artwork. You can learn more  her...

NEW PAINTING Gaia

Gaia, acrylic on cradled wood panel, 30"x24", 1-1/2" profile, no need to frame, $1500 plus s&h to   the first asking nicely . Questions can always come  to me. Greek mythology tells us Gaia birthed the sky   Can you imagine bringing something as vast and untouched as the sky to life and then spreading your wings to embrace it? This is the first of my corvid paintings to hit the market.**  Gaia features an ancient and wise crow as bridge between land and sky, with an earth-like marble at her feet. You can see Gaia in greater detail  here  and even make her your own.  Thanks so much for your interest in my artwork, All my best, warmly, Kim ** Nevermore , 30"x40"x2", and Offering (not yet photographed), 21"x 25"x3-1/2", complete with a custom built shelf for her trinkets, are both pending juried exhibition results. NEW PAINTING Vigil

Vigil, acrylic on flat panel, 24x24, $1200 plus s&h   to the first asking nicely . Questions can always come   to me. we have officially entered spring and winter's rest is over. Or nearly - there is a crispness to the air that doesn't quite sing "spring" yet, but bulbs are popping and things are greening up here in Michigan. Vigil speaks to this pause between the breaths of Winter and Spring, promise and hope to come while rooted in a dark, cold night. Vigil could be yours. Here is  the link  to view her larger, peek at her in a room, or purchase. And for those interested,   here is a link   to today's Watching Paint Dry session where I walk you through my painting process. The next Watching Paint Dry will fall on April 5th at 7pm. Thanks so much for your interest in my artwork, All my best, warmly, Kim

NEW PAINTING Equinox

Equinox, 18"x24", acrylic on flat panel, $1000 plus s&h. Link to purchase is below. A couple years back I had this seemingly brilliant idea of painting a transparent rabbit growing from a tree canopy. When I get these ideas, I can't actually see them in my head. It's my habit to just dive in painting, trusting that during the process the details will coalesce.  So while working on this tree canopy rabbit I arrived at an mid point that I found oddly beautiful but very much unresolved. I had no idea where she was going, but I was fascinated. I could have stopped there and regrouped, but I didn't. Instead I opted to push forward with the tree concept. And I wrecked the painting. To this day I have regretted that. Earlier this week I decided to consciously recreate that middle and fascinating point of the ruined painting. And this time the resolution (NOT the tree canopy!) was so simple to see! The concept fit nearly perfectly into the Rococo sky format painting...

NEW PAINTING Chasing Rabbits

Chasing Rabbits, 24"x24" (circular), acrylic on a cradled round panel with a 1" profile, image painted around the sides so no need to frame, $1800 plus s&h   to the first asking nicely . Questions can always come   to me. I keep picturing this as a center medallion on a fabulous coffered ceiling  while I lie on the floor directly underneath it and just daydream. She will also be pretty darned amazing hung on a wall, oozing magic into her surroundings, while you sit across the room and bask in it. I think her magic is infection - you might even start to sparkle yourself. Here is the link to purchase  Chasing Rabbits . Also, scroll down for details on the newest free streamable art journaling session Thoughts & Prayers. NEW PAINTING Steadfast

Steadfast, 18"x24", acrylic on a flat panel, $1000 plus s&h   to the first asking nicely . Questions can always come to me. Each of my paintings start with a "what if" And Steadfast began with "what if the blue sky inside  Fragonard (the painting immediately prior to her start)  expanded to fill more of the spirit animal vessel?" I set off to find out what that might look like, and along the way began to ponder about the constants in our lives that we don't really consciously think about. Like a blue sky. Or feet being rooted to the earth because of gravity. How plants grow towards the light. A loyal friend. What is a constant in your life? Here is the link for  Steadfast . Thanks so much for your interest in my artwork, All my best, warmly, Kim PS Pop in to Wednesday's Watching Paint Dry live Q&A and we can talk more about skies and other inspiring things. It's Wednesday, January 22nd, at noon eastern. Link to join is   here .

NEW PAINTING Rococo

Rococo, 24"x30", acrylic on a flat panel, $1300 plus s&h to   the first asking nicely . Questions can always come   to me. I am obsessed with these billowy skies My favorite art history professor despised  Rococo paintings . They quickened my heart, but I pushed that away as he berated their sentimental, over the top, flouncy layers of clouds, foliage and fluttering textiles. After all, he was the expert, right?  Recently I rediscovered them and remembered how much they pleased me. Apologies, Dr. van Liere, but I can no longer ignore their pull. Here is the link for  Rococo . This one was also inspired by Peter Sis. I cannot get enough of his picture book for adults  The Conference of the Birds . Each spread is lush with various design ideas. Substitute rabbit for bird, add my own brushwork and color sensibilities and some Rococo skies, and, voila ( Steal Like an Artist , by Austin Kleon, not to be confused with copyright infringement, by the way). Than...

NEW PAINTING Fragonard

Fragonard, 24"x24", acrylic on a flat panel, $1200 plus s&h to   the first asking nicely . Questions can always come to me. The weather forecast** is for blue skies......   **metaphorically speaking, because, actually, we are under a winter storm watch. Here is the link for  her. Jean-Honore Fragonard is one of my favorite painters. He created the most luscious, bright skies. I have a couple ongoing rabbit paintings here in the studio with skyscapes directly influenced by him. And one morning I thought, what if the sky was INSIDE the spirit animal in lieu of the expected top-of-the-panel location..... and thus was born Fragonard. I am going to try another one that feels more hollowed out, with more sky. Stay tuned for her! Meanwhile, haven't you always wanted a pony?
