Hope

Hope view her on my website order prints here Hope, original acrylic (overtop collaged paper) on cradled wood panel, sides naked (exposed wood) for a clean contemporary look, 20”x20”x1-1/2”, sold (thank you and congratulations to GO!). I always welcome your questions (yes, I offer payment plans - details below). Just  reach out . Hope came home yesterday after hanging out at  The Anton Art Center  for a few months, where she received an honorable mention in an exquisite and deeply talented Artists’ Choice exhibition (thank you again to esteemed juror  Dr. Anita Bates ). On the drive back to the studio, I toyed with the idea of keeping Hope for myself. But that seemed a bit unfair - I don’t know who out there may need a good dose of Hope. So I decided that I’ll leave it up to The Powers That Be to determine where Hope ends up. And what do you know - she had a new home within a few hours (thank you again to my newest collector!) You are invited to view Hope...

Gossamer

Gossamer make her yours Gossamer, original acrylic on a cradled panel, 36”x36”x1-1/2”, sides painted so no pressing need to frame, $2900 plus s&h. I always welcome your questions (yes, I offer payment plans - details below) or simply   just reach out   to share some love. Gossamer is a further exploration of a new approach to starting a piece - that being improvisational drawing. I discovered this process while playing around and building content for my students (this is the Summer of Play in my online classroom). It’s a lot like daydreaming with a tool in hand - whether that be pencil or paintbrush. Which leads to my next point - I will be teaching how to connect pencil and paintbrush at a new in person workshop hosted by the International Society of Experimental Artists at their annual symposium. The workshop is September 18-19, 2024 in Grand Haven Michigan. You can   learn more here . Meanwhile, you can view - or purchase - Gossamer   right off my websi...

Strawberry Moon

Strawberry Moon, original acrylic on a handmade cradled panel, image painted around the sides makes framing optional, 30”x24”x1-1/2”, $2000 plus s&h. Questions can always come  to me , or just reach out to share some love. This painting was finished, then not, then finished again, then not - a constant back and forth. I think this happens when I cannot settle into my flow state. Distractions, right, so very many squirrels at the moment….. there’s a certain point where I can no longer control what filters in - it’s like the dam has broken and the floodwaters are encroaching. I feel this in my bones. And yet, I still pick up my brushes. Ironically, my go to when the world feels out of control is the studio. Painting is my safe zone, a space where I can lose myself in the process and check out from the world at large.  Except that’s not happening with consistency any more. There have been some really good winks the past few days that have me itching to paint. Calla lil...

January, an embellished monoprint

January, 9"x12" original embellished monoprint on Fabriano watercolor paper, Available at a future date.   Please reach out  with any questions. inquire about January This last year I have tried to draw every day. Something shifted in November because I began drawing even more earnestly. I stopped thinking of the practice as warmup exercises for my easel time and started fervently exploring complex ideas and processes, allowing the drawings to become something important.  Along the way I discovered how to pull a single print off my drawings. This process is called "monoprinting." January is two monoprints layered, overtop each other (ie printed on the same page). The process of monoprinting, like any other printing process, requires precision. It can also be rather unpredictable. Unlike other printing methods, monoprints create a singular original (hence the "mono" prefix). January is called an embellished monoprint because i have added other, non printe...

NOW AVAILABLE Chickadees

Chickadees, 15"x30"x1" original painting, acrylic on canvas, sides painted so no pressing need to frame, $1500 plus s&h to the first asking nicely.   Please reach out  with any questions. purchase Chickadees I have always loved these little birds - they have delightful, delicate movements, with clever markings and round little bodies. I started adding them to fox paintings late last year, but in this piece I decided they deserved center stage. Informed by the snow and ice storm we got over the weekend (10" of snow overtop a couple inches of slush!), the resulting shoveling, scraping and limb cleanup that followed, and then recovery time spent on the couch watching them gather at the feeders, this painting is all about the last few days here in Michigan. The final touches were today's blue skies - just a hint in the upper right - and some snow holes punched into the darker shape of the branches. Don't forget, too, that I offer payment plans. A 30% non ...

Gaia, acrylic on cradled wood panel, 30"x24", 1-1/2" profile, no need to frame, $1500 plus s&h to   the first asking nicely . Questions can always come  to me. Greek mythology tells us Gaia birthed the sky   Can you imagine bringing something as vast and untouched as the sky to life and then spreading your wings to embrace it? This is the first of my corvid paintings to hit the market.**  Gaia features an ancient and wise crow as bridge between land and sky, with an earth-like marble at her feet. You can see Gaia in greater detail  here  and even make her your own.  Thanks so much for your interest in my artwork, All my best, warmly, Kim ** Nevermore , 30"x40"x2", and Offering (not yet photographed), 21"x 25"x3-1/2", complete with a custom built shelf for her trinkets, are both pending juried exhibition results. Once I learn of their status, I will offer them to collectors accordingly.

I accept Paypal, personal checks and payment plans.   Please message me.   So this one started out as a demonstration painting for   my online students . They got about 5 hours of active painting and Q&A in real time, broken into sessions happening on Friday and yesterday. Even still, that wasn't enough time to finish this painting - I spent a good chunk of today tying up loose ends and finessing the piece. And now I'm editing a shorter video that summarizes the final stages that took place off camera. It's a different way of teaching, for certain. I'm used to leading in person workshop experiences, but in light of covid and the uncertainty of when it will be safe for all to travel (and spend) again, I built   an online space   that provides the same sort of quality i...

I will have multiple cameras set up (both my easel and palette/work surface), giving each student a front row seat from the comfort of their own home, as I share - with real time q&a - how I take my own goosebumps (like experiencing a flock of cardinals flying around me yesterday) and turn them into paintings. This demo is offered via zoom webinars; participants must have zoom installed on their devices and be enrolled in the Real Time tier of   my patreon . All Real Time online students will have access to watching the demo live, along with a recorded version of the presentation. Real Time participation c...

I accept Paypal, personal checks and payment plans.   Please message me.   Continuing to be inspired by the deep snow and the flurry of bird activity in our yard, I took what I learned while painting   "Three,"   and began several other pieces. I'm also working on a large commission that is simply blowing my mind in a good way - which I love to have happen!! Thanks for following along on my painting journey. Stay well, Fondly, Kim

NEW PAINTING Three

"Three," 24" x 36" x 1", acrylics and graphite on gallery wrapped canvas, painting image wrapped around sides. $1899 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. Returning collectors get 10% off. I accept Paypal, personal checks and payment plans.   Please message me. We got plenty of snow last night, and that meant delaying starting my day to dig us out. Which truly upset me at the time, because after   yesterday's painting , I was dying to get in the studio and start pushing paint. But something happened. While I was shoveling (and muttering under my breath about why it seemed like a good idea back in July to sell our snow blower in the garage sale), I noticed the lace like patterns of bare branches agains the fresh snow. And the birds were huddled together, in the densest part of the trees and shrubs, giving me a piece of their minds, too. So that is what I painted today. And there just might be more of these. It's sort of like a Daydream painting, but...

You'de better ask very, very nicely. I accept paypal, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries may always come   to me . Last week I shared   this painting . I truly thought she was finished. But then in the days since, I've become a better artist. This morning she tapped me on the shoulder and helped me see what could happen with just a few more layers of paint. Of course she'd told me this last week, but I wasn't able to understand it yet. Thanks, as always, for following along on my art journey! Warmly, Kim

NEW PAINTINGS Barbra and Judy (Songbirds 2 and 3)

At left, "Barbra (Songbird #2)," and at right "Judy (Songbird #3)," each 8x8x3/4 cradeled panel, acrylics and graphite, no need to frame, varnished and ready to fly into your home. $279 plus $20 s&h. I accept paypel, venmo and payment plans. Inquiries may always come  to me . Painter   Stanka Kordic   has encouraged me to play with physical dimension and non-traditional brush marks. I thought I would start to practice this with some little songbirds, all puffed up and staying warm for the winter, like me in my five layers today. There's a good amount of texture in here but not as much as I think Stanka was pushing me to do - baby steps, right? And I've pulled out some unconventional tools to paint with; I'm auditioning combinations of different ones with each painting. It's actually fun, seeing what sorts of marks happen under these circumstances, and seeing these little birds emerge with so much personality. And then, when I was ...
