White Lilacs

"White Lilacs," 24" x 30", featuring Lily (one of The Princess's bunnies from years back), sporting a crown of ivory blooms. This painting is $599 (and, as with all my work, payment plans are an option). Inquiries may come  to me . SOLD (thank you very much!) After the wild acclaim over the first Lilac, I decided I needed to paint another variation on the same theme. They are similar, and yet uniquely original.  Thanks for following along with my artwork, Kim ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com

Baby Boo Peanut

"Baby Boo Peanut," Toy #16, 6" x 6," acrylics on masonite. The designers at TY are brilliant - first they brought us Beanie Babies, then Webkinz, and now Baby Boos. I love the huge eyes and the stuffie's proportions - makes for a fun subject to paint! This piece is $75, including shipping inside the US. Purchasing is as simple as  asking . SOLD (THANK YOU!) The Princess cleaned her room. And I got a bag of props.  Makes me sad that she is no longer playing with stuffed animals and toys. Well, perhaps sad isn't the right word - melancholy might be better. She's grown up now, giving me her hand me downs for the studio. At least I can still entice her in here every so often for journaling and listening to music. It's going to be hard when she starts high school this fall. I think it might be harder than her first day of Kindergarten. Perhaps I will secretly tuck a naked Barbie and a love letter from her Mommie int...

Eeyore II, Toy #5

"Eeyore II (Toy #5)," 6" x 6," acrylics on masonite, another portrait (or is it a still life?) depicting Disney's Eeyore, salvaged from the stuffed animals bin at the Salvation Army (4 stuffies for a dollar, people!). This painting is $75 and includes s&h inside the US. How can you NOT love the grumpiest of grumps? Bring him home,  and then, I dare you to smile and be joyful around him! SOLD (THANK YOU!) It's Official----- I talked about the "100 Paintings" commitment a couple days ago, and was musing the added benefit of jumping on board the challenge myself. And the more I thought about it, the more sense it made.   I want to improve my ability to paint from life and to build still life setups here in the studio. Doing this in small bites, 100 of them to be exact, seems to be the perfect solution. Plus factor in the bins of toys I have been hoarding (I can't say no to an unloved toy) and I have plen...

Eeyore

"Eeyore," 6" x 6," acrylics on masonite, depicting another Sal-Val rescued stuffie, Disney's Eeyore. $75, includes s&h inside the US. How can you NOT love the grumpiest of grumps? Bring him home,  and then, I dare you to smile and be joyful around him! SOLD (thank you!). Perhaps I'm Onto Something I've been reading quite a bit about this whole "100" commitment - the idea being that you commit to doing something 100 times. Establishing new routines, pushing boundaries, learning. It all sounds wonderful and grand, but I couldn't quite see how a commitment to 100 of anything would benefit me, since I was already committed to daily painting. Then, as a result of the 6" square studies done in Lisa Kennedy 's class a couple weeks ago, I realized I could continue to practice and explore new ways of seeing and working from life in nice little byte sized pieces. I've done at least one nearly every...

Paisano, in Process

In process, "Paisano," 16" x 16", acrylics on 2" cradled panel, depicting a foal emerging from the shadows, $849 to the first asking nicely. View In Process Photos I am rather protective of my creating time and hardly answer the phone during work days, let alone schedule field trips. But when  Laura Locke invited me yet again to spend a day working in her gorgeous studio, I couldn't pack my paints quickly enough.    We talked about work. And life. And our friend Margot whom we miss dearly. And I came home with a very happy heart. And a half decent painting started, too. THANK YOU, Laura. You are a beautiful friend. Thanks, as always, for following along with my artwork, Kim

I'm Not Listening. Wait. Maybe I Am.

In process pic of "I'm Not Listening. Wait. Maybe I Am," 11" x 14", acrylics on museum quality panel depicting the one and only Mona Lisa, $599 to the first asking nicely . She WAS sleeping in a shaft of warm sunlight, but when I reached for my camera, I woke her up. She clearly was not pleased. Note that this is the only brush I've used to date on this painting. I like Big Butt Brushes (as we call them in my classes). Thanks, as always, for following along with my artwork, Kim ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com

Easter Bunny III

Easter Bunny III, 10" x 10" (my scanner only grabbed 10" x 9", but the missing sliver is a continuation of the darker ground and whiskers), acrylics on museum quality panel depicting Rimbomba, a lop with Italian style. This painting is yours for $539 and proceeds from this sale will benefit bunny rescue at my local no-kill animal shelter. Inquiries may come to me. SOLD (thank you!) Another muse found via #bunnylove. It's like match dot com for bunny lovers! When The Caped Crusader's lacrosse game was called due to the weather and The Princess's dance cancelled because of a power outage at the studio, I found myself with an unexpected few hours at the easel yesterday afternoon. Rimbomba's portrait is the result. Thanks, as always, for following along with my artwork, Kim ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com

A Kiss for Oklahoma

"A Kiss for Oklahoma," 6" x 6", still life painting of a Hershey Kiss, done in acrylics on museum quality panel, currently  at auction . 100% of the proceeds from this painting will be donated to the  Red Cross  for their rescue and support efforts during the aftermath of severe weather in Oklahoma.   It took me a while to figure out how to support the victims of the Oklahoma tornados. I tossed around the idea of a gift certificate or a doll painting. And then in a quiet moment in the candy aisle of the grocery it suddenly came to me.   A kiss.   I'm trying out the Daily Paintworks site this time around. I've been a member here for over a year and not taken advantage of all the various features they offer, one being their auctions.   Please take a minute and peek at the  100+ paintings being auctioned to benefit Oklahoma . Maybe there's something you just can't live without.    Au...

Parson, A Painted Sketch

"Parson," painted sketch roughly 5" x 8" centered on a 9" x 12" paper, posthumous commissioned portrait of a most gentlemanly Golden Retriever, done in acrylics, private collection (THANK YOU!).   How better to sum up the week than with this face? eh?   Unless you want to see a new doll painting...... I'm starting another ArtPrize piece this afternoon, and will  post images of her throughout the day.   Enjoy your weekend - hope it's not haunted by wicked dolls and things that go bump in the night - Kim ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com

Curtain Call

Curtain Call, 12" x 1", portrait of a pair of kitties, done in acrylics on a museum quality panel. Warm, warm thanks to Dog a Day fan EW for her laughable series of photos that inspired this painting. $599 to the first  asking nicely . NOTE: Thanks to all who submitted title suggestions for this painting! I think you done good!! Wow, but did I have a blast reading all your title suggestions for  yesterday's painting !! Between FB comments and direct emails, I had well over 200 entries! It was tough picking a winner - congratulations go to Laura Williams for her suggestion "Fiddlesticks." So let's do this again, shall we?  suggestions for today's painting can come to Facebook . If the volume is at all like yesterday's, I can't possibly respond to them all, but know that I'm reading them with a smile on my face and a box of Girl Scout cookies at hand.  And while you are there, you can see the  in-process pics ...

Spotlight

"Spotlight," 6" x 8", portrait of a young dancer, done in acrylics on museum quality panel, collection of the model.     This is Elizabeth's daughter - you remember  Elizabeth ? the one who drug me all over central Florida last week? - Well, her daughter Emilie is an accomplished and exquisite dancer. She turned out to be quite the muse as well.   While I was staying with them last week, Emilie, a freshman in high school, successfully auditioned for an apprenticeship in a professional dance troupe. She also invited me to her dance studio, where I met a few of her teammates and got to watch them perform.    Breathtaking.   Sadly, I left my camera back home. So the lovely photo inspiring this painting was provided courtesy of  Douglas Nelson Photography . I say this all the time, but please make sure you have the photographer's explicit permission to create derivative art from their work. Tha...

Romeo

"Romeo," 24" square, acrylics on museum quality panel, depicting a very personable Yorkshire Terrier. This is a commissioned portrait, and as such, has a home already, thank you very much.   In process pics of Romeo are  here .   If you want to talk about commissioning something extra special and extra large -  email me . I love to talk about this sort of stuff!     Romeo's painting is so large (the periwinkle underpainting was done with a house painting brush) that I made a special trip this morning to purchase bigger paint brushes.   Go big or go home, right? Fondly, Kim

Eating Bon Bons

From May 2012, "Sweet Spot I," 8" square, a little portrait of my studio muse Mona Lisa which is still awaiting a home of it's own - she can be yours for $399. Inquiries may always come  to me .   The glamorous part of my job is painting (it's even amazing to paint in my jammies, that's how marvelous painting is!).  Painting is also the most fun bit of my work day. I am so very lucky to be able to support my family with my passion.   However, don't buy the misconception that artists sit in their studios and paint paint paint, our work sells itself, and we kick back to eat BonBons and watch the paint dry.    Here's a handful of just a few studio tasks I complete, in addition to painting:   Inventory management - of paintings and materials Marketing strategies - development and implementation Web design  Materials design Client communication Budgeting and paying bills/taxes/etc Continuing ed...
