NEW STUDIES Coleas and Dahlia

At left, Coleas, 8x10, acrylic on flat panel, $300 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. On right, Dahlia, 6x6, acrylic on flat panel, $200 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. Link to purchase is below.  Please reach out  with any questions. September in  my online classroom  was all about color, with a two day live demo last weekend. These two paintings were my demonstration pieces, which was held via zoom. I worked on them in real time, talking about how to mix bold saturated color in the dahlia piece and then, conversely, how to handle a backlit subject with muted tones. The live content circled back to touch on all the bits of color theory and behavior we had been learning all month. I finished both pieces later in the week, recording additional footage on how I tied things up. Dahlia has sold (thank you so very much) and Coleas remains available. You can see her in greater detail  here ,  viewed up close, in a room setting, and find a li...

Afterwards,  they will be offered individually at the prices listed above.  Inquiries may  come to me  or you can  use this link . I am swimming in work from the summer months  and the paint is continuing to fly. It's a fruitful and exciting time to be in the studio, as long as I keep a path clear on the floor for the dogs to safely come and go. LOL.  As the artist I always have the distinct joy of seeing my work as a collection. Groupings of my paintings, intentional or otherwise, have conversations and elevate each other. This happen...

Direct from my garden to your walls If you follow me on socials ( FB   and   Insta ), you may have seen the various groupings I've been doing with the abstract paintings this summer. I collect a handful of them and then play with various arrangements and overlaps on the studio floor. It's a fantastic way to reframe the designs and allow the paintings to have conversations with each other. I've also discovered that some of the paintings feel stronger when they are toge...

NEW SMALL PAINTING Aster

Aster, 6"x6"x1-1/2", acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, sides painted so no need to frame. Can sit upright on her own or be hung on the wall. Special giddy post wedding pricing of $250 plus s&h (SOLD, ty so much to my returning collector!). Questions can always come  to me. Last week I painted little florals inspired by the prior weekend's wedding centerpieces  It was all about lingering with the memory of our beautiful backyard garden party celebrating The Man Child and his delightful bride, The Smile Maker. The tent is down, leftovers have all been consumed, the yard got a lovely "wash" via a few great thunderstorms, and I actually caught up on some sleep. Now it's on to the next big event..... which, I haven't yet identified. I'm in a lovely little pocket of time with no pressing deadlines or looming projects. My summer abstraction workshop ended last week and the large commissioned piece I've worked on the last 2 months is shipping...

NEW SMALL PAINTING A Pocketful of Posies

Pocketful of Posies, 6"x6"x1-1/2", acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, sides painted so no need to frame. Can sit upright on her own or be hung on the wall. Special giddy post wedding pricing of $250 plus s&h (SOLD, ty so much to my returning collector!). Questions can always come  to me. I've been painting little florals inspired by this weekend's wedding garden party centerpieces  Today's floral, "Pocketful of Posies." She makes me smile. If I could reach into my pockets and pull something magical like this out...... although I do currently have opal, tourmaline, citrine and garnet in my pocket, so it's sort of the same thing...... And very special thanks to my returning collector who made this one, and all of this week's florals, her own. She plans to hang them together, and that gives me the idea of offering a singular print with all 6 (yes, you have only seen 5 so far) of them together. Once I confirm how she's choosing to hang...

NEW SMALL PAINTING Compliment

Compliment, 6"x6"x1-1/2", acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, sides painted so no need to frame. Can sit upright on her own or be hung on the wall. Special giddy post wedding pricing of $250 plus s&h, but you must   message me your email and mailing address   to be invoiced. Questions can always come  to me. I've been painting little florals inspired by this weekend's wedding garden party centerpieces  Every Sunday, when My Better Half and I were dating, we would brew big mugs of tea and settle in to watch Star Trek The Next Generation together. Our favorite tea was an orange cinnamon blend called Constant Comment. It didn't take long for "Constant Comment" to evolve into "Constant Compliment." And then the game started where, as we sipped our tea, we would speak in over the top British accents while complimenting each other in the most absurd ways. As I painted this piece, I saw a friendship grow between the flowers. They are togethe...

NEW SMALL PAINTING Blush

Blush, 6"x6"x1-1/2", acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, sides painted so no need to frame. Can sit upright on her own or be hung on the wall. I've been painting little florals inspired by this weekend's wedding garden party centerpieces  Your humpday floral is here! Meet Blush. She's full of grays, all swishing with just a hint of color. The paint application is thick on this one. And luscious. These florals will not be listed on my website - the only way to grab one is to   message me , and I'll manually send an invoice through paypal. Peony Diptych

"Peony Diptych," (2) 12" square gallery stretched canvases that overall create a 12" x 24" image.  Done in acrylics and paint pen, featuring one of my favorite flowers, peonies. Available to the  first asking nicely  for $350. I'm planning to study florals a bit more seriously in a series of smaller works. I'm paying greater attention to modeling and composition, among other things. Trying to think about the painting as an abstract object and not as a representation of flowers, if that makes any sense. And if not, that's ok, too, because you can simply enjoy the piece for the floral element! Also, I made a number of new images available for prints and various reproductions - you can see them here . Thanks for supporting my art, Warmly, Kim ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com

Tulip Bowl

"Tulip Bowl," 24" x 30" acrylics on panel, featuring violet tulips in a goldfish bowl. Another piece created for licensing consideration, this one is available to the  first asking nicely  for $899, with one contingency. IF Tulip Bowl makes the licensing cut, I'll ship the artwork to my agency for a high resolution scan, after which the painting can be shipped to a new home. The scanning process should be completed by the end of March. Thanks for supporting my art, Warmly, Kim

Fiestaware

FINISHED: "Fiestaware," 24" x 30" acrylics on panel, featuring a mixed bouquet tucked into a turquoise Fiestaware pitcher. This one is available to the  first asking nicely  for $899, with one contingency. I've been asked by my agent to create a few floral paintings for licensing consideration.  Which means that if she likes "Fiestaware" (or whichever of these floral pieces), I'll ship the artwork to her for a high resolution scan, after which the painting can be shipped to a new home. The scanning process should be completed by the end of March. SOLD (TY!) Thanks for supporting my art, Warmly, Kim ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com

Light Magenta

Day 2 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days, this is "Light Magenta" (one of my favorite colors), 6" square, $50 to the first asking nicely . Thank you so much! Started today's painting session with this little still life. It's a wonderful way to settle into decision making, and a great warm up for the bigger piece I'm working on (working title "Midas," starring daVinci and a mess of gold ribbon). Thanks, as always, for supporting my dream, Warmly, Kim ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com

Happy New Year!

I made a conscious effort to be more present this holiday season, and that meant spending a good amount of the days mostly unplugged. At first that was difficult - I missed all of you! But I wanted to be fully engaged with family and friends this year and completely focus on closing 2016 firmly shut. And then this most wonderful side effect happened - I started to hear myself think again, in that madcap fast forward crazy ADHD way, and all the various ideas bumping around inside my brain had free rein to bounce off each other and morph into new things entirely. How wonderful is that!? So I'm back in the studio today very briefly, doing my first of 30 Paintings in 30 Days, before returning to the couch for some knitting and down time. Scroll down to see what I salvaged from our breakfast this morning.....  Thanks, as always, for supporting my dream, Warmly, Kim ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com    "Berry," 6" square, acryli...

"Bittersweet," 16" x 20", acrylics on panel, $199 to the first asking nicely. Inquiries may always come to me . I am slowly finding my way through the emotional mayhem following last week's election. We escaped to Chicago this weekend, where I unplugged from social media and played with my cousins' children. It was the perfect medicine. Back in the studio today, I struggled to find direction. Seemed like the perfect day to paint a turquoise dove with the remnants of my garden blooms. Continuing to work with the florals, thinking about the end of summer and a looming winter.  Thanks for following along with my artwork, Kim ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com

Mum Study

"Mum Study," 11" x 14", acrylics on panel, $99 + s&h to the first asking nicely. Inquiries may come to me . More sketching going on today, playing with some new ideas, painting from life, and dancing at the easel. Endangered (Snow Leopard)

"Endangered (Snow Leopard)," 24" x 30", acrylics on panel, $699 + s&h to the first asking nicely. Inquiries may come to me . This painting came about due to the challenge this week on DailyPaintworks - to paint a cat. I wanted to keep this piece in the same vein as the polar bear and snowshoe hare from last week, so decided on a big cat. Snow leopards are endangered, which inspired me to take advantage of the drooping tulips from last week's pieces. And I added dried roses, daisies, heather and alyssum to the mix. Perhaps it was today's gray weather that encouraged me to bring more color into this piece, too. Now let's find her a home - feel free to share and pass this one along! Sunflowers

"Sunflowers," 16" x 20", acrylics on panel, $199 plus s&h. Inquiries may come to me . SOLD (THANK YOU!) I taught an afternoon workshop at my local library on Saturday, and we painted bouquets of sunflowers. My students did a fantastic job painting the essence and energy of their flowers. Each piece carried it's own interpretation of their sunny faces and jumble of petals. This is my demo piece, worked a bit further along today in my studio. I think it will be fantastic in a kitchen - or a powder room - or a foyer - or a guest bedroom........ I have been asked to do a repeat performance of this class in Montague, Michigan at Studio 2 . Let me know if you are interested, and we'll get you on the class list! Thanks for following along with my artwork, Kim ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com

Truffle and Peppermint

I am working on smaller paintings, all priced under $100. I am SO sick of hearing about Black Friday for the past month, so I won't be hitting your inbox with multiple updates in these final hours before all the best deals in the universe implode together and create an entirely new planet. But I am preparing a few special things for my collector base. As with all my work, they are originals, so once they are gone, they are gone. I can do something similar, but I take pride in making unique and special paintings for each of my collectors. Also, if you are an artist interested in taking the Nutcracker Challenge, take a peek here . Or, if you are a Nutcracker collector, take a peek here . And keep coming back - bookmark it for repeat visits. The Nutcrackers w...
