Heirloom Rose

Heirloom Rose view her on my website Heirloom Rose, original acrylic on panel, 16”x20”, $850 plus s&h. This painting will ship on or after until December 10, 2024. I welcome your questions (yes, I offer payment plans - details below). Just  reach out . I realized the other day that it’s been nearly 10 years since I was the official artist of The Kentucky Derby. I had always thought of roses as my own personal symbol (because of my grandmother’s love of gardening) but this experience, creating the artwork for the 2015 Run for the Roses, cemented the rose as one of my “things.” How has it been 10 years? Heirloom Rose is one of a handful of new pieces that wallow in the whole horse and rose concept. While skies turn gray and color fades in Michigan, I’m already dreaming of spring and a glorious garden. These pieces will hopefully inspire larger works to keep me steeped in color during the winter months. You may view Heirloom Rose  on my website, inside a room setting a...

Rose Hips

Rose Hips view her on my website Rose Hips, original acrylic on panel, 18”x24”, $1000 plus s&h. I welcome your questions (yes, I offer payment plans - details below). Just  reach out . I’ve had this painting idea for a long time - that of a rose tattooed horse. I’ve tried to paint her a couple times with little success. You see, my paintings show up as a glittery thread, not as fully formed ideas. So I have to sort of unearth and then breathe life into them. Some require multiple excursions. It’s a strange thing to try and explain. I truly don’t know how any of my paintings will land - I simply show up and honor that initial scrap of glittery thread as best I can. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. So this time when this mare began to take shape, I realized that while interpreting this thread, I made several wrong assumptions. One, that the roses were literally on the horse’s skin, akin to a tattoo. And two, that the horse had literal skin. She is a vessel with tr...

NEW PAINTING Germinate

Germinate, acrylic on panel, 24"x24", $1200 plus s&h   to the first asking nicely . Questions can always come  to me. Germinate did not begin as an abstraction. She began as a fox, then sky bloomed from her face, with an explosion of peonies growing from the lower edge into a ascension of petals off the top edge. Then a little water's edge landscape crept in too. In the process of trying to meld them all together I got overwhelmed. I asked the fox, "fox, what if you run off for for a bit while I resolve the organic elements?" Fox thought that was a good idea. When she did return, she decided hiding was far more fun. There's all sorts of things buried inside this painting if you take the time to look....... a child, butterflies, rabbits, a mermaid...... I won't tell you all of them, but leave a few for discovery! You can see Germinate in greater detail  here , view her up close and in a room setting, and find a link to purchase.  Let me know if you ...

NEW PAINTING June 24, 2022 (Rose)

Rose, acrylic on circular pine, roughly 23" x 23" x 1", $1800 plus s&h   to the first asking nicely . Questions can always come   to me. I started this painting on June 24, 2022 after hearing that the United States Supreme Court had overturned Roe v Wade. It was a day of very big feels, no matter which side one was on. I took my emotions to the easel ,as I always do, and started a momma bear soaked in tears. Over the next 9 months I would return to her, adding layers of marks when I felt my own emotional well being slip and slide. On a personal note she's carried me through the marriage of my oldest, our first post pandemic holiday celebration with the entirety of family, children moving out, children returning home, two reunions with my high school BFF and the mass shooting at Michigan State University. On a larger scale, well, the world has been rife with it's own victories and tragedies, too, and art is never made in a vacuum. Something in the air the la...

NEW PAINTING Gingko

"Gingko," 24"x36"x1-1/2", acrylics and graphite on cradled panel, image wrapped around edges for a beautiful contemporary look, $1899 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. I accept paypal, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries may always come  to me . Maybe it's the gingko leaves fluttering about that lend a sense of magic. Or those blue eyes. Or that luscious pink rose slowly unfurling. Or the 4 leaf clover buried in the tangle of growth. I can't stop looking at her! She's emerging from the melted, nuanced swathes of color, partially formed but fully present. This is a remarkable painting to stand in front of. When dry, I'll hang her in one of the main rooms in the house and get some photos to show sense of scale and mood. This piece is something, all right, just like her namesake. A sacred tree inspires an ethereal painting. Thanks for following along on my painting journey, Be well, Fondly, Kim

NEW PAINTING Rose Hips

"Rose Hips," 28" x 18", acrylics and graphite on gallery stretched canvas, painting wrapped around the sides, $979 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. I accept Paypal, personal checks and payment plans.   Please message me.   I've been sharing in process pics of this one over   on my Facebook page   the past few days (I need to be more consistent with   Instagram , too - any suggestions on how I can do that?). The bear and her rabbit companion went through a couple different iterations. I had a tough time letting them just show up, and kept trying to force my own expectations onto the piece. But they were patient and gave me plenty of opportunity to quiet myself and listen. My online students are getting a deeper analysis of the piece's progression and what will come next. You have a standing invitation to   join us. Thanks for following along on my painting journey. Stay well, Fondly, Kim

NEW PAINTINGS Rosa Multiflora 1 and Rosa Multiflora 2

At left, "Rosa Multiflora 1," at right, "Rosa Multiflora 2," each 6" x 6" x nearly 1", acrylics on cradled wood panel, image painted around edges, $174 each plus s&h. $100 from the purchase of each painting will be donated to #BlackLivesMatter. I accept paypal, venmo, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries may always come   to me . I have been at a loss this last week, struggling to comprehend the divide that's growing in my country, and what I see Americans doing to each other. I created #journalthroughit lessons directed specifically to   mindfulness   and   creating space to usher in and express our emotions . I'm also planning to attend a peaceful BLM rally, but keeping an eye on threats of armed gunman attending in opposition. And, of course, listening and learning. It just doesn't feel like enough, though. Last night, on a rare late evening alone in the studio, I set my commission aside, as my heart wasn't in it. I n...

NEW PAINTING Hedgerow

"Hedgerow," 18x24x1", cradeled wood panel, acrylics and graphite, $849 plus s&h. I accept paypal, venmo, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries may always come  to me . This one has evolved all week, with various rabbits coming and going over the course of each painting session. I shared a number of images on   my Facebook page , and will be doing a more thorough explanation of my process in   my Patreon online classroom . But meanwhile, I'm going to sit and look at this painting, with her cloud bunny, and pretend it's not 300 degrees below zero outside today. Thanks, as always, for following along with my artwork journey, Warmly, Kim

NEW PAINTING Totem

"Totem," 18x24x1", gallery wrapped canvas, acrylics and graphite,$849 plus s&h. I accept paypal, venmo, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries may always come  to me . I'm not certain that this one qualifies as a Daydream, given that my inspiration subjects are a bit more representational, but this painting evolved from the same process and pulled on all the things the Daydreams have/are teaching me. Furthermore, Totem is a solid step in the direction I want to take my work in particular, lush with painterliness, imagination, sheer beauty and a storyline. Online classroom students  received an indepth video-ed discussion of this painting and the ah-ha moment it delivered. Later this week they will be getting my final thoughts on the composition and a sneak peek at what will hit my easel next. Classroom participation is via   Patreon,   where $5/month unlocks exclusive rewards. If you are seeking a deeper dive into my...

Gertrude Stein

"Gertrude Stein I," 16" x 20", acrylics on gallery wrapped canvas. $599 plus s&h. This one will be very hard for me to let go, so you must ask even more nicely than usual. I accept personal checks, paypal, venmo and payment plans. Inquiries can always come to   me . A dear friend called me up over the weekend. A friend of her hubbies was moving out of state and couldn't take her rabbit. Did I happen to know of anyone who might be interested?  Shortly afterword, said girlfriend was in my driveway, unloading a rabbit hutch and one substantially sized bun. Gertie is incredibly sweet, and made herself right at home in our menagerie. And wasted no time moving onto my easel. Thanks, as always, for following along with my artwork. Warmly, Kim

Unicorns are highly skilled at camoflauging themselves. That's why you have to search very hard to find them.

Inquiries may come  to me . Please and thank you. I usually buy my flowers from the week-old bucket. But not today. This painting was totally worth splurging on the most insanely gorgeous blush roses. Added bonus - they will last a bit longer than I am accustomed to.

Peony Diptych

Available to the  first asking nicely  for $350. I'm planning to study florals a bit more seriously in a series of smaller works. I'm paying greater attention to modeling and composition, among other things. Trying to think about the painting as an abstract object and not as a representation of flowers, if that makes any sense. And if not, that's ok, too, because you can simply enjoy the piece for the floral element! Also, I made a number of new images available for prints and various reproductions - you can see them here . Thanks for supporting my art, Warmly, Kim ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com

As a horse crazy child, I galloped everywhere, and imagined a silky tail streaming behind. The flowers carry symbolic meaning or have special context to me. Next I'm trotting into the kitchen and get dinner going.
