Fluttering by with Erica

Hi Butterfly Reflections Ink Friends!  It’s Erica here, guesting for the BRI blog today, with a butterfly card, of course!  I started out by stamping the butterflies from the brand new Butterflies stamp from Pinkfresh Studio, with Blackout Ink , on Ranger water colour paper . I like that paper because it’s bright white. I also heatembossed it with clear embossing powder on top, as I was planning on adding some colour to it with a mix of Sweet Petunia Pink , Shark Tooth White and Liquid Pixie Dust .  If you want to make shimmery water colors, make sure you get some of that magical Liquid Pixie Dust ! Add a drop or two to a palette with a few drops of re-inkers of your choice. Easy peasy!  While that was drying, I worked on a background with the Diamond Motif slim line stencil and Distress Oxide inks in Kitsch Flamingo and Iced Spruce . I used blending brushes to give a soft look, and did this on Bristol Smooth paper. This piece was trimmed down to be just a tad smaller than an A2

Clean And Simple Pops Of Colors with Guest Designer Erica

Hi BRI fans!  It’s Erica guesting on the blog today, and I have a CAS but colourful card to share with you all.  I have used the Hero Arts & Ink Blot Shop collaboration stamp set, Please Deliver , because it’s freaking adorable! I did misjudge the placement a little bit but oh well. It is a handmade card after all, not a Hallmark printed one, right? First off, I stamped up the pencils along the bottom of a 5.5”x4.25” piece of Neenah #110 card stock, with Copic friendly ink. I used Picket Fence Studios Black Hybrid ink, but you can use whatever Copic safe ink you have. My Mini MISTI made sure I got a good solid image too. Then I flipped it over, and stamped it on the other side too.  Using SO MANY Copics, I coloured in the pencils in a rainbow order. Below you can see the notes I made as I went along. It’s not overly tidy but it was more for a reference point than something to keep. I did mark the fifth pencil’s colour down upside down, it’s supposed to be R59, R46 and R29.  In t

Loads of Happy Mail from Erica

Hi guys! Today I have the pleasure of being a guest designer here on the Butterfly Reflections Ink Blog . Oh and hi, it’s Erica , by the way. I had an idea (for ONE card) in mind when I started making it but things kind of took a life of its own and all of a sudden, I was making four. Because why not? Two are done with heat embossing and Distress Oxide resist emboss ink blending, and the other two are just straight up stamped and coloured with Copics. All four cards have the Mail Background stamp from Neat & Tangled on them. The two done with heat embossing are done in Opaque Bright White embossing powder from WOW! Embossing. This is probably my fave white embossing powder, however there are many good ones to choose from HERE . They actually looked really nice with just the heat embossing done. These would make perfect backgrounds for Clean And Simple designs. A little bit of interest and texture but in white on white it’s

Rainbow Happy Birthday Cards with Erica and Studio Katia goodies!

Hi guys! Erica here! Today I have the pleasure of being a guest designer here on the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog! I have two bright and happy birthday cards using the It's Your Birthday stamp from Studio Katia . Both are heat embossed, the backgrounds are faux water coloured and both are sprinkled with Studio Katia sequins. To start with I cut out two panels of water colour card stock , and on these I dragged mini Distress Ink cubes in thick lines. With a wet wide paint brush , I blended the colours together to create the faux water colour look. You can get a similar look with any kind of water based mini ink cubes . It doesn't have to be Distress Inks. These I set aside to dry. They had to be absolutely bone-dry before I could carry on with the next step: Heat embossing. Even with an anti-static tool , I find that the powder gets stuck in places you don't want it in, if the panel isn't dry enough. The sentiment, Happy Birthday To You , was heat emb

Water coloured card with Erica using Neat & Tangled and The Stamp Market goodies

Hi guys! It’s Erica popping in, with a guest design post, here on the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog , today! How are we all doing? All good or drooling over the latest releases and wondering if it’s socially acceptable to live on water and bread to sustain your craft stuff addition? Or is that just me, lol! Today I have a card made with some new to me stuff from both The Stamp Market and Neat & Tangled . I tried my hardest to resist the latest couple of releases but failed rather spectacularly. Oh well, the stuff I got was only the tip of the ice berg (that is my wish list!) but oh wow... I’m seriously in love with that Love You diecut from Neat & Tangled and the Diamond Design Background Stamp from The Stamp Market ? There are so many colour combinations I want to try with it. I have a load of ready made A2 sized panels in all sorts of card stock for a quick start when inspiration hits, and these panels I store in plastic bags labelled with the kind of card s

Bright and SUMMERY friendship card with Erica

Hi guys! Erica here! Today I have the pleasure of being back on the BRI blog as a guest blogger, while the new team is getting settled in and all the puzzle pieces find their places. In case anyone *cough, cough* noticed the headline of the post today you may have noticed that the word SUMMERY is indeed in cap letters. That's because it's still technically summer, people!! Yes, it is! I will not hear another word on the matter, it's summer until Sep 21st and that's that. I'm a through-and-through summer girl, me. Just in case that wasn't like super clear or something, lol. I do however love leaves and leaf stamps. And Turn-About stamps from Concord & 9th! Oh, yes, so fun, I can play with mine for hours and hours. Today's card is made using the Thankful Leaves Turn-About stamp . It's so fun how the leaves are overlapping each other, mimicking the look of leaves on the ground. Because I wanted to use this stamp but aren't ready for fall

Have a happy (blue) birthday!

Hi guys! Erica popping in today with a guest designing post here on the BRI blog! How is everyone doing? Anyone feeding a particular craft obsession at the moment? I must admit my love for cover plates has not diminished in the slightest and making several cards with the same plate and different coloured card stock is still high up on my 'I love it'-list. Combine that with my love for blue and we have some diecut, blue cards to chit-chat about today. The cover plate I have used for these is the Squares and Chevrons from Neat & Tangled , and the card stock is all from Lawn Fawn . They are finished off with one of my favourite stamp and diecut combos from Neat & Tangled, the Celebrate one. You can get the diecut on its own but there is a fun coordinating stamp set to finish off the sentiment for all sorts of occasions. Right, the colours of card stock I have used here are Bluejay and Moonstone , with some white thrown in too. Both the card bases are made wi
