Celebrate The Small Things: August 29, 2015

Image
Celebrate the Small Things is hosted by  Lexa Cain  along with wonderful co- hosts  Writing Off The Edge  and  The Cyborg Mom . This week I am celebrating the joy of a slow move, I am almost done transferring everything out of my old apartment into the condo and while it has been super stressful I haven't been too overly panicked.  (really have way too much stuff though) I am also celebrating that one Sunday my kids finally come home.  Yay!  Ace has been gone since the middle of July and while not having them underfoot for the move was nice I am starting to forget what they look like. LOL! What are you celebrating this week? **This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links It's back to school season, which means classroom parties will soon be starting for upcoming holidays and school celebrations. Not to mention, I bet there are a few fall babies with birthday’s right ar...

Ready Set Write! June 16, 2015

Image
So this should have been up yesterday but I was super busy. Ready. Set. WRITE! is a summer writing intensive that provides an opportunity for us to cheer each other on wherever we’re at in our writing—planning, drafting, or revising. This year, RSW is being hosted by  Alison Miller ,  Katy Upperman ,  Erin Funk ,  Elodie Nowodazkij , and of course,   Jamie Morrow  which is how I found it. 1.  How I did on last week’s goals: Recovering from being sick last week really threw me off my game but I did pull off some progress, so I am ok with that.  As long as I am moving forward.  I only hit 200 words on my WIP but I am happy with them so I am not going to beat myself up over it.   I got in one work out so that was good given that I felt like I was going to die for most of the week.  Everything else pretty much fell out of my hands with the being sick. 2.  My goal(s) for this week: Get 1500 words on my WIP. Start ...

Ready. Set. WRITE!

Image
If you have been around here for any length of time then you know that I have a WIP (or twelve) that I am lovingly procrastinating writing.  I will make really great progress on it every once and a while but then I hit a snag (usually my own perfectionism) and I don't touch the keyboard for months. Well I am DYING to finish it and move on with my life and Jamie Morrow has provided me with just the right nudge in that direction with  Ready. Set. WRITE!  which starts on June 8. Ready. Set. WRITE! is a summer writing intensive that provides an opportunity for us to cheer each other on wherever we’re at in our writing—planning, drafting, or revising. This year, RSW is being hosted by Alison Miller , Katy Upperman , Erin Funk , Elodie Nowodazkij , and of course,   Jamie Morrow which is how I found it. On June 8, you post your initial goal setting post and then there will be weekly RSW check-in posts on Mondays. Which will follow the headlines below: 1. ...

Post A to Z Road Trip

Image
As usual I finished the A to Z Challenge with more than a few blogs left to visit so it's time for the annual cruise through summer and visiting the rest of those blogs. I am planning on taking it easy this year, I always try to be super ambitious and do everything and want to post about my favourite things that I find and I never do because life is busy and I am always doing a thousand things.  So this year I am just going to visit new blogs from the list when I can and not stress about anything else. If I find something super fantastic I will share it with you guys, but I am not stressing about it. Find the list of other road trippers here .

Throwback Thursday: Kids

Image
When I was going through my pictures I came across this picture of Cat and Ace from the summer of 2011. I just thought it was the best picture, they look so adorable.  And clean, it's not often they look clean.  It must have been taken at the start of the day.

Songs of Summer

Image
I am a big lover of music (as you may have noticed) so  when I stumbled on this blog hop hosted by  The Armchair Squid , Servitor Ludi , and  Subliminal Coffee  I jumped right on board.  Music is a powerful memory trigger and there's nothing quite like it bring back thoughts of people and places long pushed to the far corners of ones mind. The first song that comes to mind when I think of summer is 'Surfin' Safari' from the Beach Boys.  Many moons ago, when I was in Grade One, at the end of the year we did a variety show of sorts and my group did this song.  Looking back on it now I am grateful I grew up before the time of cell phones as someone's parents probably would have put that out on Facebook or their blog or something and then it would have been out there FOREVER. The second song that came to mind was Whigfield's 'Saturday Night' which brings back warm, fuzzy memories of summer in high school. Another song that reminds me of summe...

School's Out

Image
Today marks the last day of school for the monkeys, an exciting day for Cat as it is her first last day of school and she has been counting down to it FOREVER it seems like.  A little less exciting for Ace as it means not seeing his friends every day and a summer full of working on his research project skills. This morning they each headed off to school with their bags full of thank you gifts for various staff members that they felt were vital to their school year.  Ace with chocolates and thoughtfully written out thank you cards and Cat with brightly patterned pens and paper clips that she felt would make her teacher's smile to use.  (their personalities are really so different) Being the terrible  inappropriate  cool parent that I am I naturally pulled up Alice Cooper's School's Out on my phone for the kids on the way to school.  Ace was less than impressed, (who's kid is he anyway?) but Cat was very into it. I had to play it though, th...
