Throwback Thursday: Family Cosplay

Image
When we went to Toronto ComiCon in March we pulled together this lovely Doctor Who family Cosplay which I did not get many pictures of.  I did get this great one taken with the Doctor Who Society Daleks though.

Fast Five Friday: January 23, 1015

Image
This blog hop is the brainchild of Dani and Jax over at  Cover Girls  and it's quickly become one of my favourites.  It's fast, in list format and I can participate as much or as little as I want. Which is cool, because sometimes life gets busy. This week's topic is: Five TV Character Crushes.  Now you may guess that narrowing this down to five was a bit difficult for me.  The first four were easy enough but that number five spot was difficult to lock down.  1) Spike (sigh)  2) The Doctor (I don't really play favourites, show up at my door with the TARDIS and I'm yours....just don't tell my fiance) 3) Captain Jack Harkness (because really, who doesn't have a crush on him?) 4) Ianto Jones (perfect man, looks that good and makes coffee) 5) Constantine The topics for the upcoming weeks are: Jan. 23: Five TV Character Crushes Jan. 30: Five Favorite Authors Feb. 6: Five Novels You Wish You Wrote Feb. 13: Five ...

Express Yourself: Fictional Characters You Would Want In Your Life Five

Image
The Express Yourself Weekly Meme is hosted  Bouquet Of Books  and  Entertaining Interests .  This week's topic is: name five fictional characters you would want to have in your life. This is actually last weeks topic but I was sick last week so I am playing a bit of blog hop catch up because I really like both weeks topic and didn't want to skip one.  I figured you guys wouldn't mind because you are probably dying to read about my fictional character obsessions. The first in my list of fictional characters I would want in my life is Ianto Jones from Torchwood, because there is nothing I love more than a man in a well cut suit and a good cup of coffee. The second fictional character who needs to be in my life is of course Captain Jack Harkness, (I wouldn't want Ianto to be lonely) because if weevils ever attack the Greater Toronto Area I want to be prepared.  Or meteors or Daleks or whatever. A third fictional character I would want in my life w...

Time Lord Name Generator

Image
Every now and then I run across something on the internet that is truly awesome, or at least amuses the heck out of me.  My most recent finding was the Time Lord Name Generator  which as you can imagine I very excited to see what my Time Lord name would be. Your time lord name is: The Poet Your original Gallifreyan name is Vangothdanboradruchardath, or Vangoth for short. Back on Gallifrey, you led a dull and uninteresting life, working as a Weapons Keeper for the Chancellery Guard – but now, you travel Time and Space in search of adventure! Your Type 101 TARDIS is currently stuck in disguise as a monster truck called 'The Destroyer', and your latest travelling companion is a Sontaran Lieutenant, who is attempting to learn more about the difficult art of Not Killing People. Get your own time lord name from the time lord name generator! I am very excited that my TARDIS is a monster truck, I think it's fitting.  What did you think of the test?  Are you a Do...

The Scarf....Finished At Last

Image
FINALLY!!!  This project took me forever and multiple restarts.  The first came about because I notice a quarter of the way through that there was a massive curve going to what was supposed to be my straight scarf.  The second come about when I was almost finished.  (sorry Mike) I decided that I really hated how it looked, and yes I know "It's not for me, so does it really matter how I think it looks?"  YES, yes it does!  We all have an inner perfectionist no?  That little voice in our heads that says it's not good enough. Anyhow, here would normally be the part were I would link to the site where I found the original pattern but the link no longer works.  (sad face)  So instead I am going to link to a similar pattern that I found here. Of course I ended up doing something different but hey, that's just how I roll.  So here is my Doctor Who inspired scarf.  I like it, it's cute.  (mostly I like that it is done and I can d...

The Final Three Episodes of Pond Life

Image
First off all, Asylum of The Daleks airs today!!!! YAY!! Almost takes the sting out of having to work on the long weekend.  I don't feel the jumping up and down excitement I have going into previous Series but I am anticipating it just the same. Now on to Pond Life: The whole Ood in the loo thing was a bit absurd and even after watching it a couple of times I'm not sure if it was absurd in a good way or a bad way.    I love saying it though, "Ood in the loo." It's like saying "Dinosaurs on a spaceship."  or "Snakes on a plane."  Not really productive but it sounds awesome. Part four of Pond Life just makes me want my very own Ood.  It could make my coffee and do my laundry.  Le sigh.  I would be nice to him or her (do Oods have sexual designation?)  Part Five of Pond Life was a bit creepy to me.  Also, poor Rory.  Why does something bad need to happen to Rory?  (yes, we don't know that but it is implied)...

Pond Life Part Two

Now that is a better teaser!  It was much more interesting.  I at least got a good giggle out of it.  I can just imagine the Doctor showing up in the middle of the night and alluding to some future catastrophe.  No sleep after that, no sir!

New Doctor Who Series 7 Trailer: Warning This Way Be Spoilers

Image
If you are a Doctor Who fan then you know that the new Series 7 Trailer launched this morning.  Now, anything I have to say about this can only be considered a spoiler if you (like my son, who wants to be surprised) have not (will not) watched said trailer.  With that being said I recommend that you not read any further or do so at your own risk.  So, I have not been highly anticipating Series 7, even though 90% of my favorite Doctor Who episodes have been Moffat episodes since he took over the helm I just haven't felt it.  It took all over Series 5 for me to warm up to Eleven.  (like until the Christmas Special and then I had to watch it all over again with a better attitude)  Still, I watched this trailer this morning right away (well as soon as I dropped the kids off as Ace did not want to be involved) and let me tell you it did what any good trailer does.  I AM NOW DYING FOR  SERIES 7 TO START! Why you ask?  First of all dinosaur...

D is for Doctor

Image
D is for Doctor, as in Doctor Who.  I was out for my birthday on Sunday with my friend Mike and I asked him for some ideas for the challenge.  When I asked "D" he bopped me on the head with the notebook he carries to take notes for his blog and said "Duh, D is for Dalek" Dalaks I grinned at him (in his 10th Doctor jacket and TARDIS blue tie) and laughed a bit "Or Doctor?  Why didn't I think of that?"  Which is a really good question why didn't I think of the Doctor?  If you've been here before you know he's been brought up once or twice (and yes Mike is the one I am making the endlessly tedious scarf that I have not work on in a week and should not have brought up since he is probably reading this) so this post should have been an easy one for me. My first Doctor Who episode was The Library, so Ten was my first Doctor and yet as much as I love him and I do so much, he is not my favorite....Nine is.  I think it's the ears.  ...

The Scarf (Part Two)

Image
Okay, so I knew that this project was going to take a long time, but I really thought for some reason that I would have it done by the middle of February.  <insert hysterical fit of laughter here>  Yeah right. To begin with it is done all in single crochet 65 stitches across and 822 rows, 142 of which I have completed so far.  It is very monotonous and that makes it really hard for me to stay focused on.  I seem to have the attention span of a two year old who has been feed a bag of chocolate covered espresso beans.  (I would never do that nor do I condone it) I love this scarf, it is beautiful and I want to finish it.  Hell, I already want to make another one.  But...I also have a huge list of notes about what I am going to do differently next time to hopefully make it go a little quicker.  Assuming I finishing this one.  <nervous laugh> Which I will...eventually, I am just hoping it's not in June or something.  I mean...

The Scarf Part One

Image
There are few people who know me who wouldn't agree that when I enjoy doing something I am almost obsessive about it.  And as my immense yarn stash can attest to crochet is no exception.  I taught myself from a kids book. While I was home on maternity leave with Catherine.  It quickly progressed to being one of my favorite things to do if I needed to relax and unwind.  Plus I can make pretty stuff.  Now the particular scarf in question came onto my project list just before Christmas, I was making up these adorable Ruffle scarves for a few friends and another friend asked me to make him a scarf.  As it happens, I have no real idea what it is that guys like when it comes to crochet scarves so I said yeah, okay pick some yarn and I will make you one. It didn't come up again and it half floated in the back of my mind for a while as I went about other things and as I, like most other craft addicts, collected patterns for things to "one day" make.  I lo...
