A to Z Challenge 2018: G

Good begets good. Feeling down?  Hold the door for the lady behind you juggling three bags and a toddler.  Instant mood boast.  Putting good out into the world makes you feel good.  Hold doors, smile at people you interact with, say hello or good morning.  Wave to small children. You don't need to know how those actions effect other people (they won't hurt them) only how they effect you.

Only on G and already I am behind. Oi! Which is more unlikely? Meeting a single, straight, reasonably attractive, willing-to-commit man? Or discovering a secret cache of magic books? For good-girl Jane Madison, neither has a shot in hell of coming true -- until the day she finds a hidden room . . . Now she's done a bit of experimenting and found a spell that makes her irresistible to men -- even those who have previously ignored her. And another that turns a cat into her witch's familiar (a snarky, critical, self-absorbed man -- pretty much a typical male). Though her impulsive acts of magic have brought a warder (sexy, grouchy, elusive and determined to stop her from using magic) down on her, Jane's not willing to let go of this fantastic new life. Though she wonders about having things that aren't "real," she's having too much fun to stop. After all, no one ever said being a witch was easy . . . I only read the first book in the series due t...

My favourite substance on Earth is coffee so it comes as no surprise that I chose Ghost in The Coffee Machine by Charity Tahmaseb for my G story. Katy and her grandmother have always used coffee to catch ghosts. It pays the bills and keeps them in high-end beans. But after Katy’s grandmother dies, it’s as if she’s taken all the ghosts with her.  Until Katy discovers there’s a rival ghost hunter in town, one who uses tea--of all things--and one who has stolen all her clients. But when an epic infestation threatens, Katy can’t help but get involved. It will take all her wits--and some excellent Kona blend--to fight the ghost in the coffee machine.  This was a really fun, fun story.  I love the detail that went into it and how one must make all different cups of coffee for the spirits, three of each, as you don't know how they take it.  Personally I take mine light and sweet and I don't imagine that changing in the after life.

Day seven of the  A to Z Challenge .  Has anyone noticed yet that I can't draw letters?  That's what I get for trying to do my own graphics! Garrilous Definition: full of trivial conversation.   Sentence: He was not in the best of spirits, for the drink was dying out of him; but his garrulous, inconsequent talk amused me mightily.                 --Frank T Bullen Genuflect Definition: bend the knees and bow in church or before a religious superior or image. Sentence: When you enter, bless yourself with holy water and go quietly to your seat, genuflect on your right knee and enter the pew.             -- Anonymous Gerrymander Definition: divide unfairly and to one's advantage; of voting districts. G is For Geisha

Geisha are traditional female Japanese entertainers whose skills include classical music, dance and games.  There is so much here to be fascinated with that it's like being a kid in a candy store...you don't know where to look first.  I learned some really neat stuff and I think there are great stories there. The most interesting thing I learned is that there is (like most things) a process of apprenticeship for becoming a a geisha.  As, they progress towards becoming a full geisha their dress, hairstyle and makeup all become simpler.   Other things I learned are: 1) There were (and still are a few) male geisha. 2) Geisha must retire if they marry.   Geisha can work well into later life which is just fascinating to me as I said.

Okay, so I don't know what it is with me and the letter G but there is something about it that make me want to get on my soapbox.  Please note anything said from here on out is my opinion, if you are easily offended you may want to stop reading now, as this may be considered well offensive. Something that really bothers me as a mother is how society in general spends all this time marketing things as girl toys or boy toys, marketing genres as girls or boys etc.  Mostly cause it's crap.  But more than that I'm kind of tired of how everyone always fights the girls side of it.  What about all the little boys out there???? I mean I have no worries about my daughter whatsoever, I feel sorry for the person who says anything to her about her Captain America action figure, cause the child has more attitude than she knows what to do with.  But my son?  He keeps to himself about his less than "masculine" toys and I notice that they stay in the closet when he's no...
