Evie The Crayon Creator Blog Tour

Image
Evie is 5 years old and has a dream of going to Disneyworld. When begging and pleading didn’t work Evie started on a new plan to make her dream come true… she started a business! Now she is saving her money while making crayons and selling them on Etsy! From Evie:   The first crayons I made were just a homework project with my mom. I wanted a dino birthday party and my mom said she would help me make decorations. We made dino art to put up on the walls, dino invitations and dino favors. The favors were little dinosaur crayons that my mom helped me poor into a mold. After the birthday party some of my friends wanted more. So we made more... and more... and more... and then my mom helped me put them with dinosaur books in my grandpa's shop. I sold so many that I went to the store with my mom and bought new shapes to make and we ordered molds for those shapes too.  Now I sale them on my mom's site (Etsy store) that we share. Now my mom helps me cut the papers and I tak...

Yorkdale 5k Weekend To End Women's Cancers + Project 4

Image
Sunday morning I got up against my better judgement (as I was feeling horrible after sleeping for almost 11 hours) and went over to Yorkdale to participate in a WEWC training event.  If you stick with reading my blog you will soon discover that I support my share of charities, most of them local.  Sick Kids, Heart and Stroke, War Amps etc.  But this is my big one, where my time and energy goes...not just my money.  In March of 2009 I lost a dear friend and co-worker to breast cancer.  She was one of the most inspirational, full of life women I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and I am a better person for having known her.  In 2010 I walked the weekend for the first time, partially in her memory but also for the other women I know who have been through this.  Patients, friends, loved ones, family.  I also walk because I never want my daughter or anyone else to lose their life to something so senseless.  Crabtree and Evel...

Craft Month: Project Three

Image
A couple of weeks ago my friend Mike and I were out for dinner and I was very excited about some new ribbon I had ordered (not that I need any more) and I was telling him about it while he ate.  Even though he had been there when I ordered it.  I was debating between ordering premade bottle caps to match it or just getting the images and making my own. For some reason this intrigued him and he wanted to know what exactly one did with bottle caps and ribbon.  Not having any photos of my own handy I did a search of the Etsy app on my phone a came up with a quick example of some bottle cap bows, they were cute but not show stopping. Now, my friend is a real lover of beer and I don't mean your regular run of the mill beers.  Since I started hanging out with Mike he has introduced me to the wonderful world of craft beer (by introduced I mean talked me into trying as I usually don't like beer but I was uneducated as to how good beer can be) so I probably should ha...

National Craft Month: Project One

Image
Yesterday I got several e-mails telling me that March is National Craft month, (how did I not already know that?) which of course made me very excited.  After all it's an excuse to craft....everyday...for a month.  Like I don't already do that.  However, I will take any excuse to take on a new project (or twelve) and I have a huge craft supply stash.  So I thought that I would take this chance to do some stash busting projects and see what cute ideas I could come up with for materials I already have on hand.  For day one I took it easy and made these cute hair clips for Cat from some little wooden button dolls I got in my Christmas stocking.  Materials: 4.5 inches grosgrain ribbon, alligator clip (I use double pronged for Cat cause she's got crazy curls), wooden doll (came from the dollar store originally) Heat seal the ends of your ribbon so they don't fray, I used a lighter but you can use fray check or a wood burner as well. Using a hot...
