Book Review: Saga Volume One

Image
I had been on the hunt for the first volume of Saga for quite a bit of time but I was having a little bit of trouble locating it.  Everyone had Two and Three but One was nowhere to be found.  Mike added it to his handy dandy list of books that I was looking for and he managed to locate it in no time flat.  (I don't understand how that works but he does live in an area better populated by book and comic sellers than I do) Saga had been briefly described to me by a friend which piqued my interest and I thought I had an idea of what I was getting myself in for but I really didn't.  I am not sure I even know where to begin on a review of this. The art is simply stunning, it just blows my mind how it goes from eerie to downright creepy to breathtakingly beautiful.  There are a few panels I would love to see as prints to hang up on my walls. Vaughan and Staples depict the world of Marko and Alana so vividly that I couldn't help but fall in love with it and...

The Cephalopod CoffeeHouse: June

So it is my new decision to not to sign up for this until I actually have the post written because every time I do something comes up that stops me from posting on time.  Blah! For the first time in a long time I actually did a lot of reading this month, and for the most part kept up with blogging about it.  (go me)  I did however sneak in a graphic novel that I rather loved and haven't told you guys about yet. I am not super in love with the style of art work, but who am I to judge, I can barely draw stick people.  The story line did it's job and drew me back in though, right back to those good ole days with the gang from Sunnydale. I can't wait to re...

The Cephalopod Coffeehouse: Meeting Three

First I would like to apologize for being a day late with this, massive migraine yesterday meant I pretty much just hit my bed and curled up like a baby when I got home from work. Anyway, this month I read something that was read by a friend a while a ago and I bought but I was reading something else at the time so it just kind of sat on the shelf.  Now I am a fan of graphic novels (and comics in general) but I am more of a Marvel fan than a DC fan so there is a possibility this is why it took my so long to read this.  Watchman is written by Alan Moore, the artist is Dave Gibbons and the colorist is John Higgins.  It takes place in 1985 in an alternate universe.  At first I actually found it a little dark for my tastes (and that's saying something) but once I got into a little further and started seeing the how and why I liked it a lot more. What I like most about it is that there is a how and a why to it, it goes so much deeper than a lot of the stuff that ...
