This sparks something in Daniel and marks the beginning of his adventure. Daniel leaves for Canada and locates the merchant who sold the carpet to his father. There Daniel hears the story of the Carpet Weaver of Isfahan, an Iranian legend that tells of a gifted young girl who wove three magnificent carpets, but met with a tragic fate. Slow Cooker Recipes For Beginners Review and Giveaway

Image
My slow cooker is probably one of the most underused appliances in my house.  I was so excited when we got it on sale when I was at home on maternity leave with Cat, it meant that we could continue to have great, home cooked meals once I went back to work.  Sadly, the prep for it seemed to take my longer than actually making a home cooked meal so it just sat on the counter collecting dust. I did use it for Christmas though, boy can I make a great slow cooker ham.  Yummy!  Which frees up my oven to make a turkey if I want.  Anyway, fast forward to the opportunity to review this book, I want to use my slow cooker more.  The idea of coming home after working ten or twelve hours and not having to cook because it's ready is fantastic.  So I volunteered happily. The first recipe I decided to test out was the roast because our family has a deep love of beef. There it is all rubbed with spices and placed in the slow cooker, looks like it will be ...

Humanity's Global Era Review

Image
Book Description: A new era is dawning. Within less than two decades a fundamental change has taken place in our lives. Humanity, which has so far existed in one defined world, now exists simultaneously in both a real and a virtual world. We have developed a parallel universe, one that exists, is significant, powerful and even threatening. We are all present in that world, and it has practical implications for all aspects of our lives. This book deals with the Era of the Global Individual. It describes the Global Person’s formation process and addresses the ideological, educational and leadership challenges stemming from this new reality while offering practical tools for contending with them. These tools are based on innovative research dealing with the crossroads between research on emotions and technology, and the wisdom we have acquired through the ages. Review: I don't read a lot of non-fiction books, they just don't tend to hold my interest for very long.  Th...

The soothing sounds are what Jammy Jams is all about. Experience these popular tunes in a whole new way with baby today. Review: This was so much better than I thought it would be, I have heard lullaby renditions of songs I loved before and they were passably recognizable but not great.  Once Upon A Rhyme is really good, I uploaded it on my phone so that I would have it on the go as a break from the regular stuff I listen too. Cat and Ace bo...

Idisina The Black Rider Review

Image
A richly woven fantasy novel about the battle between the sexes and the struggle over ideology, power, and religion. Take a moment and imagine foot prints on the sand, the foam on the beach washes back and forth leaving a thin imprint that divides between thought and action. If killing awakens a flutter of butterflies in your gut would you commit the crime? On an island where women rule, Daniel starts a revolution. During the night of his grandmother's death, Daniel decides to run with his emotions. From that moment on, he ventures out from the city of his birth and meets characters that will fashion his future; a warrior, a deserter, a man and a woman. Review: This was a very unique book, there were parts of it that I wish were explored or explained in greater depth.  The character development could have been a little deeper but as a whole it was very enjoyable. Idisina The Black Rider Can Be Found on  Amazon . I received a copy on this book in exchange for a...

Love Trap Review

Image
Synopsis: Daphne Bernstein did not like Jerusalem.  She ended up there by chance, dragging along her young daughter, her useless medical licence, her disgraceful past and her desperate hope to rebuild her life that has gone off course. In an ancient building, in the midst of a stormy winter, Daphne's life crosses paths with an alienated man and an ambiguous co-worker, who are both hiding a secret with heavy consequence.  Is this a random meeting or a sophisticated trap? Love Trap is a fascinating and unconventional story about lies, friendship and love.  It occurs in the dark and mysterious domain, between reality and distortion, created by fear and hope. Review: I found Daphne's tale to be very intriguing.  I don't usually read a lot of books that aren't fantasy or science fiction that take place outside of North America so that was refreshing for me.  Plus there was all the mystery.  I love a story that keeps me guessing at things. Every...

Tea With The Queen Review

Image
When mice turn 100 years old (in mouse-years, of course) they get to visit the Queen of England.  When Charlie journeys across they countryside for his grandmother's visit he discovers that even little creatures can have big adventures.  Charlie's adventure with his grandparent's was super fun to join him on, it was well written and engaging. Cat and I loved the illustrations, we have not had a lot of luck with e-books for Cat lately so this one was a refreshing delight.  Among our favourites were Percy and the Queen, so fantastic. Cat is a huge fan of tea parties of all kinds so immediately following this book we had to have our own tea party with the Queen.  (even though we are nowhere near 100 yet)  I am a big fan of any book that makes the kids want to stay in any part of that world after it is read.  (that's after all how I was inspired) This book can be found on Amazon  here .   I received a copy of this book...

We Play Review

Image
You may or may not know this but I love my e-readers with a great passion.  They are not books and they will never be books but they hold a very large space in my heart because they are quite portable and they can hold so much information in such a small space. My children, especially Cat, do not feel the same way.  She loves the feeling of a book in her hands to poke at and turn the pages.  To flip back and forwards.  It has to be a pretty interesting story or have great art or something to catch her attention and hold it all the way through in an e-book and this one didn't make the cut. That being said, it is a well done, simple book for beginning readers.  It was right at her level and she only needed help with one or two words of what she went through. I loved the activities and the word list because I am big on reinforcing what they have learned in what we just read and it's easier when the book lays it out for me.  ;) I received a copy o...
