A to Z Challenge 2016: W

Image
We're so close to the end now that I can almost taste it.  Have you found lots of good blogs to read so far?  I have found a few as always that I will be keeping for the long haul.  On to today's review: For nearly two years, Cade has been rejecting his Fae gift, his prescient Elsewhens―simply refusing to see or experience them. But the strain is driving a wedge between him and his theater troupe, Touchstone, and making him erratic on stage and off. It takes his best friend Mieka to bully Cade into accepting the visions again. But when Cade finally looks into the possible futures, he sees a royal castle blowing up, though his vision does not tell him who is responsible. But he knows that if it is in his visions, he can take action to stop it from happening. And when he finally discovers the truth, he takes the knowledge to the only man in the Kingdom who would believe him: his deadly enemy the Archduke. Melanie Rawn's delightful creation of the world of Albeyn ...

The Treemakers Review Blast

Book Synopsis : Sixteen-year-old Joy Montgomery, daughter of Zephyr the Magnificent, the great magician, can only reminisce of better times. Before the Superiors. Before the uprisings. Long ago. Before the dying Earth ripped the family she loved away from her. She can only dream of the adventure life must've been before their ancestors brought the apocalyptic devastation in the form of disastrous climate change. In this desolate dystopian future, the Greenleigh orphans are “privileged” with the task of building mechanical trees for the post-apocalyptic survivors in Bygonne, so their world behind The Wall can breathe another day, and so the Superiors may continue their malevolent reign. Lured by a yearning for freedom, tenacious curiosity, and hunger for adventure, Joy discovers hope and magic amid the misery, and power in her promise to care for those remaining, whom she loves enough to risk her life for. To save them, herself, and the boy she adores from the abuse and sl...

Idisina The Black Rider Review

Image
A richly woven fantasy novel about the battle between the sexes and the struggle over ideology, power, and religion. Take a moment and imagine foot prints on the sand, the foam on the beach washes back and forth leaving a thin imprint that divides between thought and action. If killing awakens a flutter of butterflies in your gut would you commit the crime? On an island where women rule, Daniel starts a revolution. During the night of his grandmother's death, Daniel decides to run with his emotions. From that moment on, he ventures out from the city of his birth and meets characters that will fashion his future; a warrior, a deserter, a man and a woman. Review: This was a very unique book, there were parts of it that I wish were explored or explained in greater depth.  The character development could have been a little deeper but as a whole it was very enjoyable. Idisina The Black Rider Can Be Found on  Amazon . I received a copy on this book in exchange for a...

Haven Series Collection (Books 1+2) Review

Image
I recently read the Haven Series Collection: Books One and Two and was thoroughly enchanted with the characters and what I learned of the world of Haven to this point.  I am already looking forward to how the story is going to unfold from this point, which is great because it's been a while since I've look forward to a new fantasy series. In Book 1, A Stranger Magic, we meet Sam Dalcome (and his family) who thinks he is an average teenage boy.  He discovers a mysterious stranger lurking outside his house and tries to uncover his intentions but is sidetracked when he and his friend Travis stumble upon a secret passageway in a cave that leads to a hidden cavern.  The discoveries the two boys make from there change their lives.  They are also pretty creepy in some spots.  There is some pretty vivid writing that made me want to put the book down because I was terrified, very well done. In Book 2, Revenge of the Viper, we learn more about the Dalcome fam...
