Library Book Review: Blueberry Girl

Image
This is a prayer for a blueberry girl . . .  A much-loved baby grows into a young woman: brave, adventurous, and lucky. Exploring, traveling, bathed in sunshine, surrounded by the wonders of the world. What every new parent or parent-to-be dreams of for her child, what every girl dreams of for herself. Let me go places that we've never been, trust and delight in her youth.  Nationally bestselling author Neil Gaiman wrote Blueberry Girl for a friend who was about to become the mother of a little girl. Here, he and beloved illustrator Charles Vess turn this deeply personal wish for a new daughter into a book that celebrates the glory of growing up: a perfect gift for girls embarking on all the journeys of life, for their parents, and for everyone who loves them. Give her all these and a little bit more, gifts for a blueberry girl.  Cat picked this booked out at the library and even after reading it twice she felt no real love for it.  Apparent...

From The TBR Pile Review: Stardust

Image
From multi award-winning creator of "The Sandman", Neil Gaiman, comes the incredible work that broke new ground in graphic novel storytelling, re-issued in a deluxe hardback edition with a new cover and eight additional pages of bonus material. Together with acclaimed artist Charles Vess, Gaiman returns to the realm of Faerie for a lavishly illustrated tale of an ancient world where magic and humanity mingle in extraordinary ways. Gaiman's exquisitely crafted text and Vess' breathtaking illustrations combine to create a novel with pictures, an adult fairy tale that plunges the reader into the very heart of an enchanting magical land. Tying in with the release of the film, this is your chance to own a piece of "Stardust"! Not on my TBR pile for long I started this book and then wondered off for a bit because I am trying to read all the new Star Wars cannon stuff and then wondered back because th at stuff pulls on the heart strings a little to...

Anansi Boys Review

Image
I had been looking forward to reading this since I finished American Gods but I try to limit the amount of new books I bring into my house in any one period.  (not like it works)  I did pick it up on a before the movies book shopping trip with the rug rats and I am ever so glad I did. Mr. Nancy was my favourite of the peripheral characters in American Gods, there's something about the way he is portrayed that just draws you in.  I was more than enthusiastic about getting to hear his story in a more in depth manner. I didn't connect with Fat Charlie right at the beginning of the book, he was more of a slow hook character for me, it was as gradual as his development in the story.  Once I did fall for him though, it was completely and I was sad for the book to end, it was like losing a friend.

The Cephalopod Coffeehouse: Meeting One

Image
Last month during the A - Z Challenge I wondered my way into joining a blogger's book club over at The Armchair Squid .  I have never belonged to a book club before, mostly because between the kids and work and classes and stuff I don't have armloads of time to show up for meetings and talk to people.  Which is why this is awesome because as anyone who has ever been in my house can attest to, I love books! For the first month we got to just pick a book and that was super exciting as I have a whole shelf of unread books in my hallway of books.  This was my chance, but the question was which one did I want to read most?  In the end I choose "Good Omens' which is a collaboration between Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.  (now if that doesn't make you want to read a book what would?) Now, I am a big (HUGE) fan of both of the above mention authors so the fact that I have owned this book for I don't know how long and haven't read it is actually a shock to m...
