A to Z Challenge 2018: B

Be yourself.  Every book that I have read so far on how to bring more happiness into your life or reduce your stress at some point has this same message in some way.  Stop trying to be something you don't want to do and just be yourself. This is something that I struggled with a long time before finally starting to come to my own now in my late 30's.  Even now I feel the pressure to conform to something I am just not.  I get it from my parents especially who are constantly telling me I need to grow up.  I used to try to please them all because I love them but know I have figured out that if I am constantly trying to please them instead of just being me then when it really matters I tend to balk at doing the stuff they need from me.  It's much better to have an 80/20 balance where 80% of the time they call except me for me and 20% of the time I act like as reasonable human being and don't wear a tutu to the theater. I find it much more freeing to...

A to Z Challenge 2017: B

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in the baby carriage -- but Hannah's doing it in the wrong order. Hannah has a secret. She’s given up her dream of a traditional family and gone to a sperm bank. She’s thrilled to be pregnant, but she doesn’t want her handsome new boss Luke asking too many questions. This was a cute read, I love quick, happy books.  You know that the happily ever after is coming but it's fun to read the journey there.

A To Z Challenge 2016: B

For my B book I chose 'Becoming Us' by Amy Daws, I had originally gone with a different book but when I kept having to read the same page over and over because it wasn't registering I switched. The dreaded friend-zone...  The last place I ever want to be with college basketball God, Jake LaShae.  I am losing my mind trying to figure out what this gorgeous and confident man wants from me. I need to break through his walls. What is it about me that makes him not go there? What am I lacking?  When a mind-blowing betrayal knocks the wind out of me, and I think I can't feel any lower...Brody stumbles into my path—barefoot no less, and sexy as hell. His direct and mouth-watering swagger is a breath of fresh air. The feelings this man gives me are like nothing I've ever experienced.  But Brody has a past.  A past that makes it nearly impossible for him to trust me and let us become us in whatever capacity that may be.  Just when Brody and I tru...

B is for Ballerina

I was always more than a little fascinated with dance even though I have less than no rhythm.  What little girl doesn't?  The long graceful lines, the glittery costumes and the adoring fans.  Turns out not only did I not have any rhythm I have massive stage fright as well.  So no dance career for me. Naturally, wanting to be a dancer I wanted to be a ballerina because they are the best of the best.  Anyhow, I did some research and learned some neat things about ballerinas: 1) The term ballerina is a critical accolade reserved for well-trained and highly accomplished female classical ballet dancers. 2) The rank of Prima Ballerina Assoluta was bestowed on a ballerina who was considered to be exceptionally talented and above the standard of other leading ballerinas though now the title is rarely used and is mostly symbolic and used in recognition of a notable career. I know when I think of ballets I usually think of Swan Lake or The Nutcracker but the ...

B is for Books

When I was originally planning the posts for my theme I spent a lot of time thinking about the books I had read over the years.  (there were a lot)  Some stories stick with me but I can't remember the name of the book, some characters stick with me but I can't quite place their story and some books, some books are so burned in my mind that I could recite them in my sleep. The entrance hall into my apartment looks like that picture above, it's lined with bookshelves that are literally overflowing with books.  And still I seem to have books littering every free surface in my house.  (that's not counting the kid's books, theirs are beginning to need a house of their own)  Anyhow, the avid love of reading that goes on in my house has led to a mass number of "favorite books". So here in no particular order are my top ten favorite books (as in the first ten that came to my head) 1) The Time Traveler's Wife  by Audrey Niffen...
