Kindle Book Review: Kiss Me, I'm Irish

Image
Emily Musgrave is heading a direction she never wanted to go in Regency England--namely a convent to turn her from her waywardness. But it's more loneliness than rebellion that motivates her to escape her certain fate. Liam Jackson is going nowhere fast in modern-day Tennessee. Playing his Dobro in seedy bars and backward dives along with his fiddling sister, Tinker, is doing nothing for his music career--and even less for the dark places in his soul. Pixie mischief can not only change time-lines, it can change hearts. Because sometimes a girl just needs a little magic in her life. I found this book to be an interesting time travel fantasy story. Would I have picked it out on my own from a bookstore?  No way.  Did I enjoy reading it? Yes. Tinker was my favourite character in this book, sheis a mischievous sort of fun which is always lovely.  Besides a punky, pixie?  Totally my spirit animal! (person?)  I did not relate to Emily very well, I unde...

TBR Review: Bunnicula

Image
BEWARE THE HARE! Is he or isn't he a vampire? Before it's too late, Harold the dog and Chester the cat must find out the truth about the newest pet in the Monroe household -- a suspicious-looking bunny with unusual habits... and fangs! This book has been in my TBR pile since a YA book swap before I moved.  In other words, a while.  I finally knocked it off in about half an hour the other day.  So it was a pretty quick read, which is good because if I am going to hit my Goodreads goal this year I need to knock back those quick reads.  I am 47 books away. Bunnicula is a fun book, I really enjoyed it.  Harold has a great point of view of what is going on in his household.  I kind of feel a bit like Chester everyday, frazzled and not able to convince people of the things that I know are going on. I feel both of my kids would enjoy reading this a great deal, it has been passed along to Ace's TBR pile and then it will make it's way to Cat's.  ...

Library Book Review: Blueberry Girl

Image
This is a prayer for a blueberry girl . . .  A much-loved baby grows into a young woman: brave, adventurous, and lucky. Exploring, traveling, bathed in sunshine, surrounded by the wonders of the world. What every new parent or parent-to-be dreams of for her child, what every girl dreams of for herself. Let me go places that we've never been, trust and delight in her youth.  Nationally bestselling author Neil Gaiman wrote Blueberry Girl for a friend who was about to become the mother of a little girl. Here, he and beloved illustrator Charles Vess turn this deeply personal wish for a new daughter into a book that celebrates the glory of growing up: a perfect gift for girls embarking on all the journeys of life, for their parents, and for everyone who loves them. Give her all these and a little bit more, gifts for a blueberry girl.  Cat picked this booked out at the library and even after reading it twice she felt no real love for it.  Apparent...

TBR Review: Cinderella and The Duke

Image
Never welcomed into society circles, Rosalind Allen gave up her marriage prospects long ago--life has taught her she'll only get hurt. So she's shocked when an encounter with a mysterious stranger makes her long to reconsider... Little does Rosalind know that her mystery man is Leo Beauchamp, Duke of Cheriton, traveling in disguise to evade the ladies of the ton! Impoverished Rosalind is the first woman to captivate Leo--but can he persuade this wary Cinderella to trust him with her heart? Not in my pile of books very long this was an interesting story.  I am not a huge Harlequin Romance fan but I find that they are great to keep around for when I am feeling sick because I can plow through five or six of them in an afternoon and then feel like I have accomplished something.  It's a sweet story of an underdog woman and a quite bossy Duke,  though he was quite well written so he could boss me around anytime.
