A to Z Challenge 2018: D

Don't delay. One of the biggest things that has impressed me in my research for bringing more happiness into your life is to not delay unpleasant tasks just because they are unpleasant.  In the words of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt "you can do anything for 30 seconds" and you can. Think about how many thinks that we put off and put off that would only take 30 seconds if we just did them.  My biggest is folding and putting away laundry.  What is yours?

So for D I found a fabulous cozy mystery series by Angela Pepper.  I don't know why I don't read more cozy mysteries, they are fantastic.  I just don't think about it you know.  I hope I remember to read the next one in this series when it comes out.  Stormy Day and Jeffery Blue are my new heros. “A great cozy murder mystery with clever clues, plus plenty of fun characters to make you smile!”   First book in a new series!  Gift shop owner Stormy Day is settling into her new life until she comes across a frozen body, hidden inside a well-dressed snowman. When her own father is implicated in the murder, Stormy must chase down clues and uncover the town's secrets herself. As she draws closer to identifying the killer, Stormy's own life may be in danger. That is unless Jeffrey, the mischievous Russian Blue cat who led her to the icy body in the first place, can flick his sleek gray tail at the final piece in the puzzle.   When I first starte...

A to Z Challenge 2016: D

It really takes a lot of reading really fast to keep up with this kind of challenge, sadly I am starting to drag a little bit already. My D book is Dark Hero by Lily Silver. Elizabeth is a survivor. Betrayed, kidnapped and left for dead, she awakens on a ship bound for the Indies, in the bed of a stranger claiming to be her husband. As she recovers from her ordeal, the gift of the seer emerges; the ability to see and speak with the dead. A descendant of druids, Elizabeth knows she must hide her strange gifts as her new husband could claim she's insane and commit her to a madhouse. Can she trust this Dark Hero her grandmother conjured from the Gothic romances Elizabeth once devoured?  Donovan survived betrayal, imprisonment and torture. Deception and subterfuge are the weapons used to keep people at a distance. Donovan’s penchant for deception and disguises may be his undoing when his bride awakens after her rescue and doesn't recognize him. As he struggles to rekind...

D is For Demons

A demon is a supernatural being, often malevolent prevalent in religion, occultism, mythology, fiction and folklore.  In some religions they are considered unclean spirits often fallen angels or deceased humans.  In other religions or occultism demons are spiritual entities that may be conjured and controlled.  Like most of the things I am writing about for the challenge this year I have always had an intense fascination with, not necessarily demons themselves but with all the mythology and lore surrounding them.  I think they are a great  subject for stories much like vampires and witches because there is so much there to work with. Some interesting things about demons are: 1) The Ancient Greek word daimon refers to a spirit or divine power with no connotations of evil or malevolence.    2) Popular Hebrew mythology has demons that are believed to come from the nether world and have various physical ailments ascribed to them such as heada...

D is for Dinosaur

RAWR!! A triceratops and a t-rex walk into a bar... Okay, that's all I've got.  Telling jokes is not my strong suit, but I love dinosaurs.  When I went looking for pictures for this post I discovered I have almost a hundred random pictures of dinosaurs on my phone.  (weird right?) My favorite type of dinosaur is the triceratops which is a type of herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the late Cretaceous period in North America.  They have a large bony frill and three horns in a rough triangular formation, they are the most familiar of the ceratopsid dinosaurs. Last year, the kids and I went to a dinosaur thing and I discovered another type of ceratopsid dinosaur that I had never heard of before that I thought was just gorgeous.  They are called Kosmoceratops and they also lived during the late Cretaceous period in North America.  They are one of the most ornate ceratopsids and their frills are covered with horns.     I have n...
