My Favourite....Childhood Memory

Image
My Favorite.. is a weekly meme hosted by Maureen’s Books. In this meme we share every week something we love with each other. Because let’s face it.. The world can be a dark place and it’s time to share something positive. For more info:  My Favorite Meme . This is a tough one for me, I have many, many great childhood memories.  I grew up in a small town in Nova Scotia surrounded by relatives and close family friends and I got to roam free in a way that kids do not get to today.  Picking a single favourite memory is difficult. One I think stands out for me above all others though, mostly because it is one of the few clear memories I have of the golden time before my sister was born when I was an only child.  (I think I was 3 or 4) We had a cabin out in the woods and we used to go there on weekends as people do but on the way in next to the road there was a giant anthill (well at least giant to the very small child that I was) and I was quite young and extre...

Fast Five Friday: May 29, 2015

Image
This blog hop is the brainchild of Dani and Jax over at  Cover Girls  and it's quickly become one of my favourites.  It's fast, in list format and I can participate as much or as little as I want. Which is cool, because sometimes life gets busy. This week's topic is: Five Childhood Cartoons: 1) Gem and The Holograms. I started watching this again recently on Netflix and while it's not a binge watching show by any means it is still fabulous. 2) Care Bears 3) She-ra Princess of Power 4) Tiny Toons This is the ring tone on my phone, I sit quote Tiny Toons ALL THE TIME. 5) Sailor Moon. This is just a small spectrum of the childhood cartoons I love, I could keep going until you fall asleep from boredom.  It's a great way to come up with new ideas for Cosplay (like I don't have a long enough list, lol!) The topics for the upcoming weeks are: May 29:  5 childhood cartoons June 5:  5 books you couldn't put down June 12:...

Express Yourself: Childhood Aspirations

Image
The Express Yourself Weekly Meme is hosted  Bouquet Of Books  and  Entertaining Interests .  I have been reading it for a while and I always want to jump in but I have been hesitant to bite off another thing to do right now.   However there will never be a perfect time to do something, so I decided to just jump right in and figure it out as I went along.  The question this week is what did you want to be when you grew up? The first thing I ever remember wanting to be was a doctor, my doctor when I was a kid was just the coolest woman and I wanted to be just like her.  Until the first time she gave me a needle and I discovered that doctors just like nurses have to give needles.  That just wasn't going to happen, I hate needles. After that it was a succession of little kid ambitions mermaid, firefighter, princess and then I read A Wrinkle In Time.  Since that day I have wanted to be a writer and though there have been many bumps in...

When I Grow Up

As the school year draws to a close for my son and he shows his growing pride in his new found command of French and various other skills he has learn since since September I find myself reflecting more and more over my own childhood days. Unlike my son, who has a very strong command of and even stronger interest in science and math, I leaned heavily towards English and writing.  Even at so early an age as he is now my imagination was awash with a million ideas dying to spring forth and create their own little world.   I was often accused of daydreaming and not paying attention (okay, so I wasn't paying attention) and I longed for the day when I could be a grown up and spend my days writing and let my characters tell their stories.  Sadly, I then grew up and realized life isn't that easy.  With the birth of the previously mentioned beautiful little boy my writing got pushed to the side as reality of life as a working mother hit.  Now I am learning to write...
