Fast Five Friday: Comfort Foods

Image
This blog hop is the brainchild of Dani and Jax over at  Cover Girls  and it's quickly become one of my favourites.  It's fast, in list format and I can participate as much or as little as I want. Which is cool, because sometimes life gets busy. Today's topic (which I am catching up on) is comfort foods.  I am big on eating when I am upset, that and cleaning so I have a fairly extensive list of comfort foods but I cut it down to my top five favourites. Homemade Soup - it doesn't really matter what kind but my favouritest is Turkey and Rice. Ginger cookies Spanish Rice - just like my grandmother used to make. Pretzels - I just love salt sometimes. Smarties FAST FIVE FRIDAY TOPICS: May May 1:  5 comfort foods May 8:  5 sidekick fictional book characters you adore May 15:  5 favorite quotes from a book May 22:  5 things on your bucket list May 29:  5 childhood cartoons June June 5:  5 books you couldn't put down ...

My Take On The Whole Food Allergy Thing

Image
I'm going to start right off the bat by warning you that this post contains my opinion, which as you may or may not know, may offended you.  If that is going to bother you please stop reading now.  Okay, so my opinion on this as a parent is yes, it is a massive pain in the ass to not be able to send my extremely picky child to school with a peanut butter and honey sandwich (his favorite).  So he just takes honey (almost everyday since JK) not the end of the world.  Not for me not for him.  That note that I got home the time I bought him the fancy honey that kind of looked like peanut butter and forgot to send a note in his lunch bag about how it wasn't peanut butter (seriously it was apple cinnamon) was embarrassing but also not the end of the world.   Having to check ingredients in what I snacks I send him with, annoying but really he probably shouldn't be eating most of that crap anyway.  If someones kid got sick because of something ...

Hamilton's Food and Drink Fest

Image
On Saturday my friend Mike and I headed out of town for an afternoon of wine, food and beer in Hamilton.  Which worked out well as a) life has been less than pleasant lately and b) the weather was crappy.  We met up at Yonge and Queen in Toronto and after listening to me voice my opinion about dealing with stupid people and shuttle buses before I had coffee in the morning we grabbed the street car and headed over to Jarvis, where we walked a block (possibly half a block) south to a delightful coffee shop (the name of which I cannot remember) that was full of delicious smells and great coffee. We wondered over to St Laurence Market and grabbed peameal bacon sandwiches for the trip to Hamilton before heading over to Union Station.  Now, the original plan was to take the GO train out to Hamilton but our timing worked out that the bus was leaving sooner (and when you have coffee and great company what's the difference) so we switched plans. View from the bus before we ...

Caramel Corn

Image
I was playing on Pinterest one day (you can follow me if you like) and came across some vegan recipes that I wanted to try.  They brought to mind a friend who enjoys vegetarian cooking so I immediately texted him to tell him so.  I am sure there was some eye-rolling because I am as far from a vegan as one can get but he requested that if I was so bored could I find him a recipe for homemade caramel corn.  I, naturally, thought that this was a brilliant idea that was sure to kill at least a half an hour of time.  Unfortuantely, I had never searched for something on Pinterest before so I massively underestimated how quickly I would find the perfect sounding recipe.  In about five minutes I uncovered this  one which just looked so good in the picture I had to pass it along. Turns out caramel corn is one of those things it is both really good and really bad to know how to make.  I completely endorse this recipe, and will NEVER buy from this s...
