Audible Review: StarWars Aftermath: Empire's End

Image
Following "Star Wars: Aftermath" and "Star Wars: Life Debt," Chuck Wendig delivers the exhilarating conclusion to the "New York Times" bestselling trilogy set in the years between "Return of the Jedi" and "The Force Awakens." It took me an exceptionally long time to listen to this because I did not want it to end.  These books were a great listen and one day when my Audible listen pile shrinks a little I will listen again.   I was heartbroken for much of this book, the senselessness of it all.  I cried a lot, as I did through much of the series.  Wendig really brought the emotion for me.  I loved these characters like they were family. I finished it yesterday and I am still a little raw from the whole experience.  It's kind of like how I still need a minute (or ten) after watching Rogue One to compose myself.  I loved the book, I loved how you can see where the First Order gets it's beginnings.  And I loved how it rai...

Summer 2017 Comment Challenge: August Edition

Image
I stumbled across this challenge on one of the book blogs I follow and decided that I had to join for the last month.  I love making new blogging friends but am horrible at commenting, so the challenge to HAVE to do it is something to force me to get outside my comfort zone.  Which is a thing I am working on this year. My partner that I was assigned is  Jorie for Jorie Loves A Story and her blog looks pretty cool.  I look forward to getting to know her over the next month.  It's a little nerve wrecking for me though as I signed up to comment 10 times and I barely manage to comment once a month with people I have been following for years and would consider a blogging friend.  Just because I get nervous and anxious about no one caring what I have to say. (I am kind of shocked that I manage to blog actually) Well shall see how this goes, hopefully I don't make an ass of myself.

Friendly Fill Ins Week 56

Hi everyone. Time for Friendly Fill-Ins Week 56.  Remember to leave your link at McGuffy's Reader. 1. A law I would like to see passed is _________________________. 2. My favorite card game is ______________________. 3. With Summer unofficially here,                                   . 4. A favourite Summer memory is                                   . Another week, another exciting fill in. 1) A law I would like to see passed is stricter drinking and driving laws.  It astounds me that people pretty much just get a slap on the wrist. 2) My favourite card game is Cards Against Humanity.  Not that we get to play it often, not enough adult time.  3) With Summer unofficially here, I am hoping to spend more time outside with Cat, enjoying the nice weather. 4) A favourite Summer memory ...

Currently: August 17, 2016

Currently.... I have not done a currently post in ages and I thought now would be a good time to revive them as I have got a lot going on and have been blogging a lot more. Loving... Getting more exercise out in the fresh air walking Miss Cat to camp every morning.  It feels great and we enjoy the time together. Reading... Hmm, right this second I do not have a book on the go.  Weird.  Usually I have three or four.  I was just contemplating rereading Ready Player One because I saw a teaser photo from the movie this morning and got all excited about it. Watching... Cat and I have been binge watching Full House on Netflix because Ace is away and we can watch whatever we want.  We are just at the end of Season Five. Listening To... Well, we went to see Iron Maiden on Saturday night and missed seeing Metallica on Sunday so I have been listening to a lot of both outside of work. Thinking About... I have an appointment to se...

Library Book Review: Shopaholic to the Stars

Image
Sophie Kinsella returns to her beloved Shopaholic series with Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) newly arrived in Hollywood and starry-eyed. She and her two-year-old daughter, Minnie, have relocated to L.A. to join Becky’s husband, Luke, who is there to handle PR for famous actress Sage Seymour. Becky can’t wait to start living the A-list lifestyle, complete with celebrity sightings, yoga retreats, and shopping trips to Rodeo Drive. But she really hopes to become a personal stylist—Sage’s personal stylist—if only Luke would set up an introduction. Then, unexpectedly, Becky is offered the chance to dress Sage’s archrival, and though things become a bit more complicated, it’s a dream come true! Red carpet premieres, velvet ropes, paparazzi clamoring for attention—suddenly Becky has everything she’s ever wanted. Or does she? I have always been fond of the Shopaholic books, Becky is sweet if misguided and oblivious to those around her.  This book was no exception,...

The Carpet Weaver of Isfahan Review

Image
Daniel was wounded while serving in the Israeli Army. Still living with his parents, he cut himself off from the world, holed up in his room and kept his communication with anybody to a minimum. All this changes when their house is broken-into. An insurance appraiser, while checking Daniel's room, proclaimed his small carpet is of the highest artistic craftsmanship, equivalent to a Van Gogh. This sparks something in Daniel and marks the beginning of his adventure. Daniel leaves for Canada and locates the merchant who sold the carpet to his father. There Daniel hears the story of the Carpet Weaver of Isfahan, an Iranian legend that tells of a gifted young girl who wove three magnificent carpets, but met with a tragic fate. Daniel purchases the second carpet from the merchant, and becomes fixated on locating the third carpet. He illegally enters Iran in search for the carpet weaver. In his journey he is followed by 3 secret services (Canada's, Israel's and Ir...

Fitness Friday

Image
I am still on a no exercise ban until I see the surgeon and get the all clear on August 2.  Have you ever noticed how slow time can go when you are really itching to do something?  That has not stopped my from keeping up with my walking though.  I even set a goal of 365km on Runkeeper by July 2018 and I want to see how fast I can hit it. This fitbit update is from this morning after my walk with the Cat to drop her off to camp.  Not quite halfway to my daily goal but I still have to pick her up later.  Day camp has really improved my daily step count a great deal, I will be hard pressed to get my steps once it ends.  How do you get you activity in every day?  Do you have an activity tracker?

Postcrossing July 13, 2017

This lovely postcard hails from Germany, and it covered in beautiful buildings which are of course some of my favourite postcards.   The second postcard that I received yesterday came from Holland and at first I was not sure what the picture is but those are snails.  On the back, I got a lovely picture drawn for me of a cow.  If my editing skills were better I would show it as well because it is really quite beautiful.  Cows being of course my favourite animal. Do you collect postcards?  Are you a member of postcrossing?  I find that sending out snail mail is a soothing experience.  You get to be creative with it.  I always draw pack from postcrossing when I am behind on my pen pal letters but when I am caught up I love to send out postcards.

This lovely card traveled all the way from Finland.  It's not the greatest picture of it but I am still suffering the effects of yesterday's migraine.  I love the happy people picture on the card, a great addition to my mailbox.

Library Book Review: The Demigod Files

Image
This weekend Cat and I took a trip to our local library for the first time since we moved into the neighbourhood.  It was a great experience and we have already been back a second time to trade in for new books. How do you handle an encounter with Medusa on the New Jersey interstate? What's the best way to take down a minotaur? Become an expert on everything in Percy's world with this must-have guide to the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Complete with interviews, puzzles, games, and original short stories by Rick Riordan. I enjoyed this a great deal.  I have loved all of the Percy Jackson books that I have read so far but the short story style of this one was especially enticing.   These are among some of my favorite books and I look forward to reading more of his work now that the library is part of or regular routine again.

Emma Vs. The Tech Guy Review

Image
If you think you know me, you're dead wrong. Yes, I'm driven and calculating and my colleagues see me as a cold, workaholic who has stopped at nothing to create the top fashion magazine in Southern California. But working my ass off isn't the only reason I got there. And those little indiscretions used to be content hiding in the back of the closet. Then Guy Walker enters my office. Sexy, sweet, and super popular, the new tech guy is taking our office by storm. Sure, I notice him. But I won't risk him derailing every strategy I have in place. If he gets too close, he might discover my secrets, and that could ruin my career and turn my life upside down. This hilarious chick lit book will pull you into its world and leave you loving its fun, witty characters. I joined a Facebook Book Club and this was the first book.  Not my usual fare but a great book.  The whole time I thought it was going one way, which was not a way I liked at all and then bang total tw...
