My Creatively Random Life

Mr. Ace has been gone exactly one week today.  Cat and I both miss him terribly, though she would probably chew her own arm off before openly admitting it.  It's lonely for her without him though, there's no one to help her if mommy is busy. This picture was taken several years ago at  Canada's Wonderland  when they were both pretty small.

I have finally been cleared to start easing myself back into working out after injuring my knee.  It's a huge relief to me as since I first injured my knee in February I have not only gained ten pounds but also lost any muscle tone I ever had.  (that bothers me more than the weight) I needed something hard enough to challenge me but easy on my knee or adaptable to be easy on my knee which instantly ruled out everything in my extensive workout DVD collection.  Enter my sad face, I tried to adapt one of the easier Yoga Booty Ballet  workouts to my needs but that did not go well. So as more than 75% of my collection is from BeachBody  I headed over to their website and went on the hunt for something low impact.  During that hunt I found several things that I would love to check out when I am back to 100% but I decided to check out  Slim in 6  as it says it is low impact. I discovered Blogging For Books  through an email from  Random House  and thought it was just my idea of the most perfect deal ever.  I could get books for free and I have to do is read them and give my honest opinion of them?  I can do that.  I am highly opinionated. So I filled out the form, answered the many, many questions and once I was approved I went off to choose my first book.  Now there was the hard part, how did I choose from all the books there were available to read?  Luckily for me (or not so luckily depending on how you look at it) I injured my knee a few months ago and I have recently been informed that I need to keep my weight at or below what it is now while dealing with the recovery process.  So naturally the cover for Snack Girl To The Rescue! caught my eye. We went to see  Erth's Dinosaur Zoo Live  at Toronto's  Panasonic Theatre .  Aside from feeling like massive dorks for being in the minority for being adults there without children we had a great time.  The show takes you on a journey through prehistoric Australia introducing you to various creatures brought to life as puppets by very talented puppeteers and performers. The show was created by Erth Visual & Physical of Sydney Australia and is extremely interactive.  For every different creature someone is brought up on stage to get involved with the show.  Some of them even went out into the audience.  We had seats in the second row and the view was fantastic if not downright frightening at times.     The beginning of awesomeness for me was when the rain made the trees and hay bales grow. (because I am easier to amuse than your average four-year-old)  It was a very neat effect.  Then they moved on to baby dinosaur...

I am currently in the process of reading more than a few books this month but of the ones I finished this one was by far my favourite.  Kay never comes to mind when I speak of Canadian authors, which strikes me as being weird because I have never read anything of his that I didn't love.  A Song For Arbonne is no exception to that rule. Set in a matriarchal country enamored with troubadours it starts with a woman on her way to visit someone when she is "taken hostage" by someone who turns out to be her paramour.  Then the story jumps forward and changes characters and you her story bit by bit which is both slightly annoying and absolutely brilliant. With Ace leaving to go to Calgary this morning I have been spending the last few days being super sad, sappy mom and going through old pictures.  I have found some super adorable ones and it is amazing to see how much they have both grown up. Naturally since he is going to be gone for a few weeks I am going to be all misty-eyed and nostalgic and posting old pictures of him. This one is from a picnic at Centre Island  two years ago.

It's once again time for my favourite blog hop, Celebrate the Small Things hosted by  Scribblings of an Aspiring Author .   I have a few small things to be happy about on my radar this week. 1) I found the perfect pink fabrics for my Pinkie Pie costume. 2) I lived through my first physio therapy session for my knee. 3) I picked up a pair of super cute white flats for Saturday night for $3. Weird Al's Word Crimes brought joy into my life this morning.  My good friend  Shane  alerted me to this songs existence on Facebook this morning and I have listened to it a few times since with great joy.  It is by far my favourite Blurred Lines parody.   I look forward to going home and showing it to Ace, he is a big fan of parody songs.  What's your favourite song parody?

I am a big lover of music (as you may have noticed) so  when I stumbled on this blog hop hosted by  The Armchair Squid , Servitor Ludi , and  Subliminal Coffee  I jumped right on board.  Music is a powerful memory trigger and there's nothing quite like it bring back thoughts of people and places long pushed to the far corners of ones mind. The first song that comes to mind when I think of summer is 'Surfin' Safari' from the Beach Boys.  Many moons ago, when I was in Grade One, at the end of the year we did a variety show of sorts and my group did this song.  Looking back on it now I am grateful I grew up before the time of cell phones as someone's parents probably would have put that out on Facebook or their blog or something and then it would have been out there FOREVER. This week I am in a very celebratory mood because I FINALLY had my MRI done on my knee on Wednesday.  No results yet but soon, soon.  Which means every little thing makes me super happy. In other fabulous news my friend Candice invited me to a 'white out' party on July 19 which is some sort of event where you have to wear all white.  Since I own absolutely nothing white this gives me the perfect excuse to buy this dress I have had my eye on for weeks but didn't want to buy (even though it was really affordable) because I never wear white.  YAY! So it is my new decision to not to sign up for this until I actually have the post written because every time I do something comes up that stops me from posting on time.  Blah! For the first time in a long time I actually did a lot of reading this month, and for the most part kept up with blogging about it.  (go me)  I did however sneak in a graphic novel that I rather loved and haven't told you guys about yet. Being that I am a massive Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, I have had these sitting on my bookshelf forever.  I haven't read them for a multitude of reasons, but mostly because I wasn't ready yet.  I was still mourning the show that was.  That being said, I am glad I FINALLY started reading them. I am not super in love with the style of art work, but who am I to judge, I can barely draw stick people.  The story line did it's job and drew me back in though, right back to those good ole days with the gang from Sunnydale.
