Photo Challenge Week Four: January 22 to January 28

Image
I am really enjoy the photo a day challenge so far, it's making me look at things a lot more.  I try to take a couple pictures a day now so I have something where as before I would just snap pictures of stuff I found interesting which would just live on my phone or camera with no purpose.  Till they ended up on my computer with no purpose. Now I have some awesome pictures and many, many ideas for the blog.  Maybe I could actually blog about the crafting I do since I am remembering to take pictures of it as I go no.  I could do a feature of the kids art work every month, I could blog about some of the interesting family stuff we do.  It goes on and on and all stemming from pictures.  Anyhow...on to the pictures. January 22, 2014: Those are our tickets to Toronto Comicon, March 7 to 9.  They are currently living on my fridge as a constant reminder that I haven't started my cosplay yet... January 23, 2014: The phone case I bought off Ebay ...

Photo Challenge Week Three: January 15th to 21st

This week I wondered away from the topics and just took pictures as I realized since I have my set my phone to auto back up when I go into my house I take a lot of pictures in the course of a day.  So I set my sights on picking my favourite one of the day, some of which did revolve around the themes.   January 15, 2014: A plate of shortbread cookies.  Dessert was the theme and funny story, I actually broke a plate trying to get this picture. January 16, 2014: The set up at Cat's daycare which reminded me of a dog show. January 17, 2014: I was messing around with the settings on my phone to take an "appropriate" picture of my TARDIS mug I got for Christmas. January 18, 2014:  Doodle I drew at work. January 19, 2014: The birthday boy watching monster trucks. January 20, 2014: This is what one of our computers said when I came into the office on Monday, super happy fun times! January 21, 2014: The plant on my desk at work...

IGGPPC Secret Santa

Image
In December, I participated in a Secret Santa exchange in the International Geek Girls Pen Pal Club.  Of course due to the super nasty weather we had here in Southern Ontario in mid to late December I both mailed by package out to my partner a little late and received my package from my secret Santa a little late. Ace's Ninth Birthday

Image
Every year that my son gets older I feel differently, but this year hits me hard.  It marks his last year in single digits, a sign that he is really beginning to grow up.  That's hard for me because I would like very much to keep him little forever, and not just because of the fact that each year older for him means another year older for me. With as fast as it seems as kids are growing up these days it feels that this year is the last year he will really be a little boy.  Then we enter the murky waters of preteenhood and all the problems that my bring.  (and we have already had our fair share) I remember when he was first born, tiny and sweet smelling.  His scrunched up little face and so much hair.  Such a happy, calm little baby he was.  Now he is growing into a boy I am proud of thought, kind and well mannered.  Even if he is a little Minecraft obsessed.  I look forward to spending the next year with him seeing th...

50 Ice Breaker Questions

I have been spend incredible amounts of time hanging out at the new International Geek Girls Pen Pals Club web site.  (time that I could be studying or cleaning or something) But it is so much fun!  Anyway, I stumbled across this in one of the forums and we all know how much I love filling these things out.  So I figured I would post it here too.  1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? Yes, a little girl my mom babysat who passed away. 2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED? The other night when I was reading and there was a death in the book. 3. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING? Most of the time. 4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT? Garlic Roast Beef 5. DO YOU HAVE KIDS? Yep, two little monsters.  One is turning 9 on Sunday.  :'( and the other is 4. 6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON, WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU? Absolutely! 7. DO YOU USE SARCASM A LOT? Constantly, it's how I tell if people are smart enough to be worth talking to. 8. DO YOU ...

Photo Challenge Week Two: January 8th to 14th

Image
So, I am loving this taking pictures everyday thing but I thin k I am going to switch from using my camera to using my phone.  Mostly because I just got an awesome new phone and now that I am starting to figure out how to use it I think I can access the photos on it from my computer without having to hook it up to the computer.  Which would make for much faster, easier blogging.  Anyhow, on to the photos.  January 8, 2014: Game This is one of the new games that came into our house over Christmas.  Not the greatest picture but that's Star Wars Trouble.  One of my favourite games and one of my favourite fandoms, since I also got Doctor Who Trivial Pursuit all I need now is My Little Pony Monopoly and I will be three for three.  January 9, 2014: Peaceful Cooking is where I find my peace. January 10, 2014: Stacks This is the stack of books that has accumulated next to my bed in the last few months.  January 11, 2014: St...

Photo Challenge Week One: January 1-7, 2014

Image
It's been a great week of taking pictures.  Some of the themes were a little more difficult more me for others but I feel okay about the pictures that came out of it all in all. January 1, 2014:  Self Portrait Ok, so did I mention that me and taking pictures of myself doesn't really go together?  I had to try multiple times to get one I liked this much and saying I like it is stretching it a bit. January 2, 2014: Negative Space So...I had to Google negative space and I really struggled with the concept because it was so varied and ranging so this was my (weak) attempt at it.  I was wrapping presents that were going out late in the mail.  (sorry!)  and I just snapped a quick shot.  January 3, 2014: New Beginnings I didn't really have an idea for this so I snapped a picture of Cat and the craft project we did on New Year's eve.  It's her Doctor Who box... January 4, 2014: Isolate The Subject Another theme that didn't...

Book Review: Wizard's First Rule

Image
The first book I read in 2014 (or finished reading rather) was a reread for me.  After finishing A Dance With Dragons I needed to read something but I didn't know what so I decided to go through the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind again as it is one of my favorites. Wizard's First Rule is the first book of the story (a very long, well written story with some brilliant twists in my humble opinion) and begins with Richard Cyper meeting Kahlan Amnell shorty after his father is murdered and then his entire life gets turned upside down. It's got everything you need in a really engaging fantasy story; wizards, dragons, royalty, three dimensional characters.  I think that's the best part of this book that you can really connect with all the characters rather they be good or evil. I also love all the little details that you notice every time you read through it that match up with things later on in the series.  There are no little gaps or mistakes to ruin the w...

Iggle Bugs 365 Photo Challenge

Image
In the spirit of the new year and blogging more (and my usual desire to just dive into things) I have plunged into a new photo challenge.  I know I always dive into these things with great enthusiasm and then it kind of peters out.   This time though it's a little easier, a photo a day all year.  That's roughly about what I take anyways, between pictures of the kids and random things that grasp my attention.  This will just be a little more focused.  I'm going to be smart this time though, I am not going to attempt to post my pictures every day.  That's where I usually get all caught up in the forgetting and get behind and get frustrated and then stop doing the thing.  As the themes are going to be posted at the beginning of the week I will take my pictures every day and do a wrap up post at the end of the week. So these are this weeks themes: I don't know how I feel about that first one...me and taking my own picture doesn't always work ou...
