The Card Concept 129 Warm Winter Wishes

Hi everyone!  Today we have a new Card Concept challenge...check out this warm wintery vignette:

Cute!  Unfortunately, there has been NO SNOW in my neck of the woods at ALL this winter--one of the warmest on record!  So I have had to get all my inspiration from these fun papers that I've been hoarding!  Check out my little Shabby and Vintage snowman card:

This little guy was on a sheet of 12x12" scrapbook paper from an older DCWV pad called The Crafty Christmas!  I trimmed it down to fit a Merry Merlot card base, then went to work to add some vintage layers!

I diecut some snowflakes from some white glimmer paper and sponged a little bit of Crumb Cake ink  on them to give them a more rustic look:

I stamped a sentiment in Soft Suede from a retired set, Winter Wishes, on a scrap of the same paper, then cut it out freehand and sponged on some White craft ink around the edges along with a swoosh of Wink of Stella!  The "winter" is from a Susan Branch alphabet set that I also cut out freehand; I love the eclectic look it creates!

My final touch was some thick baker's twine, and a sentiment on the inside:

I hope you enjoyed my Shabby and Vintage card, and hope you'll play along with us this week at The Card Concept!  Just remember to tell us your style! See you there!

The family went to a sushi restaurant recently and Cassidy ate her dinner with chopsticks....they're "fake" but she used them all throughout the meal!

Enjoy your day and be blessed!

Deer Silhouette Christmas

Happy Saturday, all!  I have a very quick card to share today, as I have a stamp party and am looking forward to seeing my crafty friends!  This card uses Amy's sketch from FMS:

and the color palette from a new-to-me (thanks to Vicky) challenge, Rainbow Card Challenge:

I've been pushing these diecut deer around my desk for weeks, trying to decide what to do with them, and when I saw the challenges, I knew I could combine them!  The deer are cut from Early Espresso; I mounted them on a diecut oval DSP, then I adhered them to a piece of Kraft cardstock and a Very Vanilla card base:

It's hard to see, but I stamped a few pine boughs at the top left and bottom right and sponged the edges for a rustic look.  I stamped a sentiment in Soft Suede and it was done!  I love how the porous fibers in the Kraft cardstock give it a rustic look!

And in honor of my friend Vicky, who is a guest designer today at Addicted to CAS, I am playing along there as well, as their challenge is "Creature":

Thanks for popping in today--be sure to come back tomorrow for a new Paper Players challenge, too!  Enjoy your day and be blessed!

RRCB87 A Winter Sketch

Happy Tuesday, everyone!  It's time for another Retro Rubber Challenge, and this time the talented Claire has created a pretty sketch for us:

Image may contain: text

I started by looking through some of my retired Christmas DSP and I found some scraps from the Winter Frost Specialty line, so I used that for my color theme of Smoky Slate and Pool Party!  So here we go:

I know I used this same set (Winter Wishes, 2015) a while back for another Christmas card, I guess I am just drawn to these images!  I used the sled this time, stamping it in Basic Gray and Versamark, then heat embossing it with clear embossing powder and watercoloring it in:

After I fussy-cut it, I mounted it on a piece of embossed cardstock, a Pool Party mat, and a Silver Foil scallop, then added some silver thread and a couple little fussy-cut pine cones.  I stamped this sentiment on the inside and added some Pool Party boughs:

I didn't save the box this sentiment came in, so if anyone knows the name of it, let me know!! I know it's probably about the same age as the Winter Wishes set!  Edited to add:  Thanks to Karen; the stamp set is called Cheers and it was from winter of 2013!

I hope you'll play along with our sketch this week and give some of your older stamps some love!  Remember, they have to be at least a year old, and you need to tell us how old they are in your post!  So get stamping and share your creation with us at the Retro Rubber Challenge Blog!

So our wee little robins finally hatched!  Very carefully, Cassidy peeked in but she could only see a couple of little beaks!!

The babies weren't making a peep, just sitting there with their beaks open, waiting for mom and dad to feed them!

And mom and dad were close by, making quite a racket, letting us know they weren't happy we were intruding!

I quickly stuck my phone above the nest and took one picture....then we scooted out of there!  I can see four little beaks, but it's hard to tell...they certainly are not very attractive when they're newborns, LOL!

Soon they'll be flying out on their own!  How cool!  I also saw my first oriole yesterday as well as a scarlet tanager!  No pictures, but I was excited that I at least saw them!  Thanks for popping in today and be blessed!

PP373 Christmas Cookies

Hi everyone!  It's Sunday and that means another Paper Players challenge...Laurie is our hostess with a sweet challenge for us:  Christmas Baking!  I'll be starting that this week, hopefully!  Check out this cute prompt:

I knew immediately what I wanted to do for this challenge, as I still had some of the sweet Candy Cane Lane DSP from last year, and I had barely had a chance to use it!  I found a great sketch for it at Case This Sketch:

and so here we go:

Aren't those little "cookies" cute? I cut them out of the DSP and adhered them to an Early Espresso panel that was cut with the scallop die from Seasonal Layers; the cookies fit perfectly!  My little gingerbread man is the star of the show, so he's popped up on dimensionals:

I added a stitched scallop border (Lawn Fawn) and some thick baker's twine along with a sentiment from Winter Wishes (ret).  My final touch was to round all the corners, which is always a nice finish!  I hope you'll play along with us this week.....can't wait to see your sweet treats!  Be sure to check out all the DT's samples at the Paper Players blog as well!

And speaking of sweet treats, as I promised, here are the final pix of Cassidy's Minion gingerbread house:

I have to admit, the banana-embellished roof had me in giggles!  Enjoy your day and be blessed!

Mojo Monday 422—Wish I Had Some Mojo

DSCF2734

Happy Thursday peeps!  I am moving in slow motion today, and I have misplaced my mojo…not sure where it went, but hopefully it will return.  I tried to make a card for the Mojo Monday sketch:

and ended up with two, neither of which really float my boat.  My first one was an attempt to use some of the gorgeous papers in the Home for Christmas DSP pack…not even a bit of stamping on the front of this card at all:

It’s a little bit busy, but better than the second card, which uses Winter Wishes:

I finally figured out what it wrong with it, after looking at the photo; the Basic Gray ink is just too light for the watercoloring on the sled.  The skate looks okay because the coloring is lighter than the gray, but the brown overpowers the gray.  It’s sort of like wearing dark nylons with white shoes….a definite no-no!  But since it’s already assembled, it’s going to stay that way.  But I’ll know better next time!  I did like stamping on some twill ribbon I snagged at a yardsale:

And I do like the ice skate!

Thanks for popping in!
