Patriotic Congrats

Happy Memorial Day to all my American friends!  No parades this year, no John marching in his uniform, but as I said yesterday, my nephew is due to graduate from West Point, so I decided to make him a congrats card to celebrate the day.  He was commissioned on Friday and will graduate in June, so I'll save it to send to him at that time!  I used an old favorite Artistic Outpost stamp called Hero to make my vintage-inspired card:

My card base is the new In Color, Misty Moonlight....I love it, of course, I love almost any blue!!  It's a bit softer than Night of Navy, but coordinates nicely with it.  I stamped my image twice, once in Night of Navy and again in Merry Merlot.  I fussy-cut the striped portion out and adhered it to the Navy image.  I found some star-patterned paper in my stash, and added a border of diecut stars backed with Merry Merlot:

The sentiment is from Label Me Bold, stamped in Merry Merlot, cut closely and mounted on a Stitched Rectangle diecut.  On the inside, I really didn't have any sentiments to convey how proud we are of him, so I diecut some Merry Merlot letters and applied them to a stitched star diecut, then added some of the stars from the front:

We are proud of him!  I am entering this in the Double D Challenge this week, which is the letter "M"...my "M" is for military!

Thanks for popping by today!  We are going to have a little cookout with Dana, Wayne and Cassidy, so I am very much looking forward to that!  John got all the patio furniture and grill out, so we're all set!  I hope you have a wonderfully blessed holiday.  We pray today for the families of all the ones who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country! God bless America!

Congrats Card

Happy Monday, peeps!  I hope you all had a great weekend!  I am squeaking this card in for the Color Throwdown challenge just in the nick of time, because I just HAD to play with these colors:

I needed a card for a new recruit, and I thought it would be fun to play with the Bloom and Grow stamp set, and try for a watercolor-y effect.  So here we go:

I placed the stamp in my Stamparatus and cut a piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock to fit, then inked up the image with some Night of Navy ink.  Once I stamped it, I inked it again and spritzed it lightly with some water, then stamped again.  Quickly, before it dried, I used an aquapainter to push some of the water around, then added a little more shading with some Night of Navy ink.  I will need to experiment a little bit more, but for the first go, I thought it worked out pretty well.  I added some Itty Bitty Background speckles as well:

I diecut some layers from Blushing Bride cardstock and gingham with the Stitched Rectangle dies, then added a few more florals, stamped in Blushing Bride, and a sentiment from Label Me Bold:

I added a sentiment from the Bloom and Grow set on the inside as well:

My sketch came from CAS(E) This Sketch, although it probably has too many layers to really be considered CAS,  I loved the sketch anyway, so I'm giving it a go!

Thanks for popping in today--enjoy your day and be blessed!

New House Congrats

Hi peeps!  Running a wee bit late today...no school, luckily, because Cassidy had a little mishap on the playground yesterday and has a sprained pinkie finger, which is causing her a lot of pain.  It's better this morning, but we may have to take a wee little trip to the urgent care!  Anyway, I made a quick little card yesterday for my college roommate who just had a new house built....all on her own!  She became a widow a couple of years ago and moved to TX to be near her daughter.  She couldn't find a house that she liked, so she had one built!  The little houses from November's Paper Pumpkin kit were so cute, I just had to use them as a congrats card for her:

I layered them on a piece of DSP from Fancy Pants' Park Bench papers, then layered that on a piece of So Saffron.  The sentiment, stamped in Lost Lagoon, is from Watercolor Wishes:

And just to break up the empty space, I added a little twine bow, using the one-hole method (you can see a tutorial here) so it would stay in place:

So happy you could visit today!

Cassidy with the "Valen-fly" she made at school!  The body was made of a clothespin with googly eyes!  CUTE!

Have a blessed day!

Squeaking in IB117

DSCF3659

Hi peeps!  I am squeaking in another card today, since I wanted to play with Laurel’s Inspired By challenge….haven’t done one of hers for a long time.  Here’s the pretty inspiration photo:

I could think of several ways to use this inspiration.  In the end, I chose to use the plaid, polka-dot and floral hexagons from Six-Sided Sampler:

I used shades of Blush Blossom, Strawberry Slush and Pistachio Pudding, and added a diecut sentiment from Itty Bitty Banners and a shabby white seam binding bow:

I also used the sketch from RetroSketches:

These colors remind me of summer!  Thanks for looking!

Mojo Monday 314

DSCF8451

Happy Thursday, peeps!  I haven’t played with a Mojo Monday sketch for a while, so I thought I would do that this week!  Here’s the sketch:

I needed an “extra-special” card for someone, so I broke out the glamorous Winter Frost Specialty designer paper, silver ribbon, silver Encore ink, silver Glimmer paper,  and some textured Coastal Cabana for my card:

I did some random stamping on the textured cardstock with images from Creative Elements, and I stamped the flourish on the white circle with silver Encore.  My sentiment is from Delightful Dozen, which I stamped in Bermuda Bay:

The mat & butterfly really look amazing in that Glimmer paper!  Love it!  And while I had the Coastal Cabana ink & Creative Elements set on my table, I made a little note-sized thank you card, using the polymer set, Another Thank You:

I cut out & popped up the flower, adding some Dazzling Diamonds glitter:

SSC234 & OCCC

DSCF0153

Happy Saturday!  I had a chance to do a little stamping today and I found this beautiful color challenge at Our Creative Corner from my DT girlfriend, Anne Marie, and I just had to put it to good use:

My niece just graduated from nursing school, so I wanted to make her a congrats card.  I thought these colors would be fun—hope it’s okay that I didn’t make a holiday card!  Here we go:

I chose to use Bashful Blue, Pretty in Pink, Pink Pirouette and Cherry Cobbler as my colors.  I also used the sketch from Stamping 411 for this week:

Pumpkin was taking a little break on my computer desk this morning….overpowering a different kind of mouse!

At 18 years old, she still mouses like a champion!  And she has to put up with all kinds of distractions…Cassidy is getting ready to give her a kiss, although it looks like she is going to bite her, LOL!
