Snowman with Plaid

This cute snowman is called Snow Posh, by .Creative Bug   one of the sponsors of the cuttent challenge at the Crafter's cafe.  The theme of the challenge is Use Lace and/or Christmas, and it runs for two weeks.  We hope to see you there - check out the prizes, rules and other details here
I used more of the plaid cs to paper piece his hat and scarf.  The sentiment is computer generated.
Sadly, Becy's month of Christmas challenges is drawing to a close -  I did not actually make it to "S", but I had fun trying.  Maybe next year!!

DT card for Eureka Challenge #193 - Quilting or Sewing

When I saw the theme for this week's challenge (Eureka Stamps) I knew I wanted to use a quilting theme, and will probably save this for my sister.  She is an excellent quilter, and owns several specialized sewing machines to work with.  The image is Eureka Heart on a Pendant digi #904, and the sentiment digi 24702.  I thought paper piecing would work well with this image.  However, because of the patterns included on the heart, I had to use solid colored paper.  I am very happy with the result - a dark vanilla and light purple combination.  I used a metallic gel pen for the stripes, and to color the tiny flowers.  I also colored the bow with the sparkly metallic pen.  This was also a great opportunity to use my new Darice Button embossing folder.  A strip of embossed faux stitching (Cuttlebug), some washi tape, and  Prima flower complete the card.  ETA:  I should have mentioned I cut out the heart and bow before adhering the pieced sections.

all purple

This is the best version of harlequin I have with me this summer - I paper pieced the dress in the same cs.  This Emerson image is so popular!

Christmas 2013

I am still hoping some one will suggest how to do the faces of the shepherds!
Supplies:  Stampendous stamps, Studio G sentiment, Faith papers by Paper Studio, $1 star punch, Cuttlebug frame EF, Cheery Lynn branch die - purchased at Joan's Gardens.
The challenge at Joan's Gardens is to include paper piecing.  She has a link to a video on piecing a die.  I did not have a suitable die, but tried to replicate the technique with this stamp.  You may not be able to see it, but the palm branches are two layers  - for a bit  of the second color and also more dimension.
I did the same with the shepherd's crook.  For the tree, I cut a lighter green piece - sort of cutting outside the lines.  Then I stamped on a darker green, cutting inside the lines.  This gives a sense of a few lighter fronds - our palm trees have different shades of green.  I also pieced the shepherds robes - and decided to make it look light the one on the left is facing the other way.  For the MFP challenge I used a second stamp to do the sheep on the left - the Stampendous clear stamp set has 3 images and a sentiment.  I used 2 of the images.

A green polka dotted umbrella

This is one of the first SU sets I purchased and now rarely use - I need to dust off the rest and get re-acquainted.  The bg DP is Basic Grey, and the pieced umbrella is A Muse dp.  The"corners" are a Spellbinders die cut - embossed, too.  I added some Cheery Lynn raindrops.

High Hopes Paper Piecing

A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to win a challenge at High Hopes, and was asked to be a guest designer.  The challenge this week is Paper Piecing.  I selected Jolie's Little Friend from High Hopes.  I used Recollections DP for the flower, hat and her pants.  The BG paper is from a Debbie Mumm paper pad - the bug theme fit well with the image.   I used Currant cs (AMuse) for the mats. The rest of the coloring is with Prismas, and I added a bit of AMuse twine.  The image and mat are cut with oval dies by Nestabilities.
There is also a tutorial for paper piecing on the High Hopes site.

Agnes with her hat

Agnes is SO glamorous with her fancy hat!  I decided to paper piece her dress, but had to try more than once to get a pattern that did not place some questionable emphasis on her figure LOL!!!   Does any one recall the expression "it is snowing down south"?  This is a perfect illustration.
The DP is by Paper Pizazz.  Agnes is an Art Impression beauty.  I added gel pen highlights, and a bit of my lone piece of vellum, as well as rhinestones and button brads.  The sentiment uses words from Words and Crafts - a bit difficult to align correctly.
