Crafter's Cafe Challenge #220

The new challenge at the Crafter's Cafe is to use embossing, or have girls/women as a theme.  I selected girls/women.  The practical reason is that I needed a special graduation card for our granddaughter.  The paper from  DeCosse's Dynamite Doodles, In Flight,  complemented the image from Julia Spiri ~Aviator Cat  I also used the sentiment from the set Nothing is Impossible.  I followed the suggestion of the artist and divided the sentiment - line 2 (Nothing is Impossible) is inside.  Our GD likes her cat, but she will have to leave him behind as she heads for fighter pilot training in a couple of months.  I used Spellbinder dies for the circles.

Recycled Christmas 2018 - Mojo Monday Sketch

Yeah!  Mojo Monday is back - every 2 weeks or so.  I am addicted to sketch challenges so this is welcome news.  Once again, I am recycling a card from my stash (the ones I am using are all pre-2017.)  The papers, unmarked, are from my collection, and I added a bit of burlap for texture. and roughed the edges to go with the vintage look of the image.

Vintage golf, HB Walter

This is for my brother.  He enjoys golf, but also likes history, so I thought this vintage style image - an oldie from Stampin' Up - would be suitable.
Chalk sponging on image; distressed edges; Washi tape; Grass die by Die-namics; DP from my stash.

Sympathy in floral and white

I saved this freebie from Imagine That DigiStamp, fully intending to make a card or two for my stash.  Well, I made the card, but it will not go to my stash, as we had word that a family member of our sister-in-law has passed away, after a long struggle with several cancers.
I wanted to have another entry for the last of the Mojo challenges.  This image is not the greatest fit, but I hope it is close enough.  The image is pre-colored, but I added a bit more metallic (shiny) green, and some silver highlights (on the flowers) using Martha Stewart Glitter finish.  The Sympathy embossing folder is by Darice, and the floral border is by Cuttlebug.  I added plain purple ribbon and bits of Washi tape.

Some cheer for Anthony

Some of you may have seen previous posts for the SplitCoastStampers Tuesday TeaPot party. Our cards may be sent to a recipient in need of cheer.  I have not been a regular participant of late, but this week I wanted to be sure to join in.  The cards go to Anthony, a 16 yer old undergoing his second heart surgery.  Side effects have caused him to lose his voice and have difficulty swallowing.  I have "known" his mother for some time through SCS. We sent cards a couple of years ago, and she said he has kept them in a memory box - I think all cardmakers are happy to know that their cards really do make an impact.   One of Anthony's interests is basketball.  I am pleased to have a chance to use some of the materials left from when our granddaughter played HS basketball! The basket is a Brad Buddy from Hot off the Press.  The sentiment is from QKR Stampede, and that backing strip is duct tape.
Here is a link to the TeaPot party.  You are more than welcome to join us!

Thoughts for Troy

This will go to a young disabled man from our church who recently fell.  He is not badly hurt, but needs thoughts and prayers of encouragement.  Thanks, Wanda, for inspiration for a masculine card.

One more thank you

CS by Basic Grey (Hopscotch pad);  SU stamp;  gold sticker strips, herringbone Washi tape, brad.  I used 3 coordinated patterns from the BG pad, and used the stickers to separate a couple of the layers.  I used 2 strips of Washi  tape to make a wide strip.  The sentiment tag is raised with small dimensional dots,

Good by and thank you, Lois

A good friend an very faithful worker at our church will be moving soon.  I made this card to recognize her faith and contributions, and to bid a fond farewell.   I used my neglected Spellbinder Majestic Elements oval dies, a Fiskar scallop punch, DP by Beau papier, chipboard butterfly and heart, some ribbon.  and shimmery taupe (?) and pale turquoise cs.  The scripture is from Word Art, Jan. 2015.

SCS Dare to Get Dirty - Christmas for Stamping Queen JAR

The week long Dare to Get Dirty challenge at SplitCoastStampers continues.  If you are a member of the Fan Club (fee required) you may participate for fun and prizes.  The deadline is Aug. 8.  I created this Christmas card for Stamping Queen JAR's challenge.
Since I am addicted to embossing folders (try to find a week when I did not use several LOL!) I found a new technique to try.  There is a tutorial here:  foil embossing.  I covered the piece of cs with kitchen foil - cut a bit larger and tape the excess on the back.  You can ink up the folder, but I wanted the shiny result so I left it plain.  What great embossing!  Every year I  plan to look for a star folder, but, here I am, using snowflakes again!  If you know of a full page star folder, please let me know.   I added a bit of blue ribbon, some Cheery Lynn pine branches, and a star brad that I glittered up.

SCS Dare to Get Dirty Challenge

The Dare to Get Dirty challenges at SplitCoastStampers continue through the end of the week - Aug. 8 is the deadline for submitting entries.  There will be some 40 challenges.  I had hoped to do them all but am more and more behind!  For this card I used a watercoloring technique (on watercolor paper) to achieve a vintage look.  I chose to use this very underutilized stamp be Inkadinkado,  The backing is a selection from the DCWV Heirloom collection.  I added a bit of Washi tape, sticker strip  and sequins for finishing touches.  The finished card is 4.75x7.  The hostess for this challenge is ohmypaper!

DT card for QKR Stampede challenge #199 - transportation

I am not sure how good this transportation might be...!!! I need a card for a brother-in-law who really enjoys long trail rides on his trusty Boots.  Certainly Boots is a bit more sedate than this bronco!  At any rate, check out the  QKR Stampede Blogspot  for this week's challenge - transportation.  You will find quite a variety of ideas from the talented DT members.  You may enter up to 3 times, and could win some of the fun QKR images.  Entries are due by 3 p,m, EDT, Thursday.
I colored the horse and rider with Prismas, and used chalk to lightly distress the edges. I used twine for a lasso, and Washi tape (maybe it is duck tape?) for the strips.  The background is dry embossed.  The sentiment is also from QKR (available as a rubber stamp) .  It is actually a single line that I cut apart to fit the sketch.
