Confirmation card #2

I will send cards to the newly confirmed members of our church.  We are pretty much a very mature congregation, so it is encouraging to have younger members.  I want to show support for them whenever possible.  This is for the young man in the group.

Christmas 2018

I am determined to upcycle several of the Christmas cards I have been saving.  Unfortunately, I am also addicted to sketch challenges, and many of the sketches do not work well with the shapes of cards I have.  So when there is one that works, I want to jump at the chance!  This is a sort of spotlight technique - after I cut the oval I decided that I could use the rest of the image for a background - bonus!!!  The card base is actually a double sided piece of cs  The stars are punched, and I added gold cord.

DT card for Crafter's Cafe Challenge #192 - Hand Made flowers

The challenge this week at the Crafter's Cafe is to use flowers that have some type of hand made component.  I made mine using an EK Success punch with 3 flowers. I cut in different colors, and added gems.  The challenge at the Crafter's cafe is open until the end of the month.  Check out the inspiration by the DT members, then join us for the challenge.
The image is from Digi Stamps 4 Joy, colored with Prismas.  The paper (double sided) is by Stampin Up - I thought one side looked like the streets for the mail truck!  I used gold mesh ribbon and an embossed bg to finish the card.

Christmas 2017 12-12

I have settled on using this image for several more cards - getting down to the wire.  It is an image I saw on Pinterest, and an old freebie from the blog Beyond the Fringe.  I have not had much time to check - I did see a long list of freebies, but I don't think she is doing many currently.  I used this dp with dots, and a strip of ribbon.  The background uses a cuttlebug snowflake folder.

Recycled Christmas card 2017 - 12/9

All the cream colored pieces are cut or punched from an old card.  The sentiment stamp is Studio G.  The gold strips are both metallic ribbon.  The embossed images are shiny IRL.  The circles are cut from dies.
Note:  it is so sad to see a few more challenges closing at the end of the year.  All the best - but the challenges will be missed.

Selfie Sandy: GDT Thursday Inspiration card for Imagine That Digistamp

Today is the day that I can announce that I have been selected as a Guest Designer this quarter for Imagine That Digistamp.  I am looking forward to this fun experience, and am especially happy to be sharing this gig with Kren.
For my first card I selected an image from a set called Selfie Sandy.  It is also part of a bundle that includes Snappy Sandy.  How perfect for today's teens!  I colored my image with Prisma pencils, but there are also pre-colored images included.  The DP used in the frame is part of another set called Beach Combing Digi Papers.  IRL, the color is more teal than it appears here
Additional information, more inspiration, and the monthly Anything Goes challenge can be found here:  Imagine That Digi Stamp Creative Playground
You may shop the store here:  Imagine That Digi Stamp Store
To complete the card, I used  Tim Holtz' brick embossing folder, from Sizzix; a bit of cord, some bling, and the filmstrip and sentiment from the Selfie Sandy set.

Special card for Linda

A friend asked me to make a special card for her friend Linda.  Linda needs all of our prayers as she will be undergoing extensive treatment and a long recuperation.  I made the card 4.75x6.25.  The new dark teal cs is embossed with a Darice butterfly embossing folder.  The cs is white core so a bit of white was exposed, but I did sand it a little more.  The butterfly layer is placed under the strips of lace.  The SU image is stamped with teal, and edged with the same ink.  The sentiment is computer generated.  I know most of you are much more imaginative than me, but I made a discovery.  I wanted the sentiment to match the image, but of course the labels1 die is basically square.  I cut the piece with the smallest die, then traced the die at the top and bottom of the tag so I could fussy cut the top and bottom to match the image.  I used Petaloo flowers and Spellbinder Blooms 2 dies with shiny gems for embellishment.  I hope this will cheer Linda.

QKR DT card - Challenge #221 ~ Christmas - non-traditional colors

This candle image by QKR Stampede works well for non traditional colors - the colors I selected remind me of the glow of candle light.  We invite you to enter the challenge at QKR Stampede this week, using non-traditional colors for your Christmas card.  Check out what my fellow design team members have created to get some great ideas!  You may enter up to 3 times by 6 p.m. EST Friday Dec. 16 - and you have a chance to win digis from QKR Stampede!
Image and sentiment - QKR; DP - Faith, by Paper Studio; Spellbinder oval dies; scrap of metallic gold paper, gold ribbon, piece of a gold floral stem. The image is colored with Prisma pencils, and I shaded both the image and sentiment with gold chalk.  White enamel accents add dimension for the candle drips.

Sept. 30 QKR Challenge #211 - Cut It Up

This week's challenge at  QKR Stampede is "Cut it up".  I did some different cuts - the die cuts for the main image, and scissor cuts for the paper pieced apron and the edging scissor cut for the tag. If you join in the challenge you can use one or more of these options - or you might choose to cut with a punch.  This is a lovely nostalgic image called Girl with a Basket.  I used papers from a DCWV stack called Heirloom.  The apron is paper pieced, and I used Prismas to color the rest.  The strip is Washi tape mounted on dark brown, and enhanced with gold and metallic cord.  I added shiny brown gems on the 3 corners.

Confirmation #3

This is the final card I made to send to members of our recent confirmation class.  I used similar but not identical materials and designs, but I used the same image cut from the front of the church bulletin.  I feel it is important to recognize our young members for this milestone.  The papers are from a pad by Paper Studio.  I have used these papers a lot, and have lots of scraps.  I used two different pieces with the cross, and a tiny strip for the band.  I also used a piece of the green DP to mat the card, and a smaller scrap for the scalloped oval.  I am getting a lot of mileage from this pad!  I tried to make this more masculine for the only boy in the group.

HB, Margaret

I thought this would be a fun birthday card for my sister-in-law, a retired teacher.  I got to use a new die from Couture as well as some well used Nesties.  The embossed greeting is a Cuttlebug folder I had forgotten about - enhanced with dark rust ink.  The Dearie Doll image is a pre-colored free digi.  The card is 4.5 x 6.5.  IRL the colors are salmon and rust.

DT card for QKR Stampede challenge #199 - transportation

I am not sure how good this transportation might be...!!! I need a card for a brother-in-law who really enjoys long trail rides on his trusty Boots.  Certainly Boots is a bit more sedate than this bronco!  At any rate, check out the  QKR Stampede Blogspot  for this week's challenge - transportation.  You will find quite a variety of ideas from the talented DT members.  You may enter up to 3 times, and could win some of the fun QKR images.  Entries are due by 3 p,m, EDT, Thursday.
I colored the horse and rider with Prismas, and used chalk to lightly distress the edges. I used twine for a lasso, and Washi tape (maybe it is duck tape?) for the strips.  The background is dry embossed.  The sentiment is also from QKR (available as a rubber stamp) .  It is actually a single line that I cut apart to fit the sketch.

Once again it is time to send a card to hubby's twin brother.  He is a retired farmer, and wheat was one of the local crops, so I wanted this image for his card - thanks, Aastha for the supply you sent.  I used watercolor pencils and an aqua pen to create the bg.

Easter Blessings - Eureka DT #185

r
This week the challenge at Eureka Stamps is "Easter".  You may enter up to 3 times before 6 pm EDT on Sunday.  We hope you will join us!  Eureka has a great line of traditional stamps and digis.  The digis for Easter include this "Lily Cross" and several similar ones, as well as other styles of Easter images and many sentiments, including the one I used.  If you enter using a digital image from Eureka, your chances of winning increase greatly.   I am including spring challenges because for me, spring means the Easter season.  Each time I see this image I think of the hymn "The Old Rugged Cross."  I think it is a Johnny Cash version that goes through my mind.

My first Swinging z-fold card

Inside view
I just purchased a die to cut the half scalloped circle for this z-fold card.  I need to work on my photography to showcase this fun fold.  I also need to figure out how to do layering around the circle die cut - for this first time I used double sided paper, and I decorated with die cut birds and strips of washi tape. (You can see the reverse of the DP just behind the sentiment circle - the front of the green dp has glittery leaves and flowers, and the reverse is more subtle with small leaves.)  The sentiment and inside (bird & music) image are from the Our Daily Bread Music Speaks set, and are stamped on pale yellow cs.  The image on the inside is torn in an irregular shape.
